last night...now the reno fire department is looking into what started it. crews were called on reports of the fire at around 8-30 p-m... in the 14-thousand block of stead boulevard just off i-80. leighton: "this was a duplex so both residences were displaced because power and gas had to be shut down to both sides. the unit itself involved with the fire had heavy fire damage." fire chief leighton says they were able to quickly put out the fire.. but one man was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. two dogs and a cat were killed in the fire. what caused it is still under fire. what caused it is still under investigation. turning to crime beat... secret witness is now offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in a shooting death that happened in sparks friday night. officers were called to the 200- block of pyramid way... just after 11 p-m... for reports of a

and the nevada caucus is next in line. thats right... nevada will be the third state in the country to nominate the democratic presidential candidate... holding it's caucus this saturday... and will be the fourth to select a republican nominee, a week from today... both parties say they're eager to get the vote out. party leaders for washoe county democrats say they're hoping for a big turnout, saturday... when voters will decide who they want to represent their party for the white house bid. cecilia "it's time for folks to step up and get involved, get involved with your neighbors and come on out and make a difference." the g-o-p will likely have six candidates vying for the silver state... hoping to gain momentum heading into super tuesday, on march first. adam "nevada is not a very big state and if you look at 2012, we only had 7 percent turnout for the caucus. so a very small amount of people can really sway an election. especially in a

the newest being the new courtyard by marriott behind me is just another example of the changing lodging landscape in reno. preston- "we don't want to be known as a gaming community. we want to also be known that is very family orientd, that will attract people that want to see the beautiful mountains and spend time in the city without feeling the need to gamble." we are just across the street from aces stadium and this part of downtown and midtown are two areas developers are really focusing on to bring vacationers

business people coming to our area-- they are an important target for these type of hotels. with major developments such as tesla and switch keeping construction workers extremely busy, smaller projects such as this hotel had to delay opening. preston- "we were having trouble getting construction crews out here and the reason being is all the wonderful consruction that is going on in reno right now." they plan on opening this summer as does the renessaince hotel which is still open as the siena. coming to you live, ky sisson, channel 2 news. still to come on channel 2 news

you are unable to pick your child up theres an app for that. a massachusetts- based driving service is introducing what they call, an "uber for kids" --the zemcar app lets parents pick a driver and schedule a pickup for their child. the creator of the app says the service is not only convenient, but safe. drivers are said to have undergone stringent background checks and cars have video monitoring services to help ease child safety concerns. the app is currently available on android phones and will eventually be featured in the app store. yesterday an onslaught of unhappy comcast cable tv customers took to twitter...after the company saw service outages across the country. and they received a lot of negative attention online. one user demanded comcast "get more employees and offer same-day help." comcast said the outage impacted several cities, but not all customers and not all services were

welcome back. time for take 2... stories we think are worth a second look. drivers in toledo, ohio, got quite the surprise sunday when two gas stations got into a bit of a price war, and as a result... drivers left paying pennies a gallon for a fill- up. it started accidentally, but drivers did not hesitate taking advantage of what may have been --a once in a lifetime opportunity.

gas prices at the pilot travel center in ohio were just 49 cents. by four a-m, they dropped to just 19 cents. the pilot clerk said the dropping prices were a computer problem. but the glitch prompted circle-k across the street to get in on the action. "i just filled my whole gas tank up from dead empty for 26 cents. i told her to put ten on it and she only gave me five bucks and now i need to go get my change. that's too funny." unlike pilot, when circle-k was contacted, they said it wasn't a malfunction. they adjusted their prices to

a 13-year-old boy from long island is raising money to aid veterans with post-combat disabilities. the seventh-grader has sold bracelets and baked goods, raising thousands to buy service dogs for the vets. 13-year-old matt redlein is blind in one eye due to an inherited condtion. he says that it makes things harder but he does the best he can. he's hoping that his efforts will change lives. matt's brother -who is completely blind - backs the cause. he says a guide dog opens the world for people with disabilites. still to come on channel 2 news this morning...
