brand-new day, march 4th, i am dave clark. we have breaking news out of pacifica, coast guard crews are on the scene and they are responding to a distressed call. they are responding to a small sail boat and this is new video we are just getting from the scene, no word yet on whether anybody is injured and tara moriarty is headed to the scene, we will have a live report coming up, and we have breaking news out of pacifica. campbell police, the first's homicide of the year. alex savage is there in campbell this morning and spoke with police this morning, alex? >> they are trying to solve this city's first killing in more than five years and this is a young man who eventually died and as you can see, it is right next to the community

center. we want to show you what happened after neighbors reported gunfire in this area. they showed up in the intersection of lat more and dumb terrible, they found at least one gunshot wound and he did not survive. police identified the victim as richard vega of campbell. at this point very early on, he can't say if there was an argument for fight before the shooting. >> obviously we are looking at all the possibilities not to directly show one motive or another. >> they are seeing the shooter drive off in a dark colored sedan, they also will not ensure why this is the driver and they are hoping if

neighbor's had surveillance cameras, possibly somebody was captured on their cameras that could help them out. we will bring you more updates as they come to light. alex campbell, ktvu channel 2 morning news. there have been five police shootings since thursday night. the first was in sonoma county and early in daily da -- daily city, it ended with police shooting and killing the driver of that car. later that same day, the driver of a car was shot in union city after he pointed a gun at them during a traffic stop.

now the latest office involved shooting happened at 3:00 yesterday morning. police tried to pull over arthur pac-man for reckless driving and that officer opened fire killing a passenger in the car. pac-man is now in jail facing charges of assault and homicide. we spoke to people in hayward about the reason shootings and they say police have a tough job and all the available guns are to blame. >> this is dangerous and i myself find it illegal to get a gun but i don't want one because it is so much trouble. >> officers being more bold will do anything to avoid going to jail. the solemn memorial service for the two police officers killed in the line of duty are scheduled for thursday at noon. it will be at the hp pavilion.

they will begin the service live on thursday and they will also provide live streaming of the service at ktvu channel we have new information for the people growing in a homeless camp which started with a few tents and some tarps. we have new information about what is going on surrounding the homeless camp, jeanine? >> reporter: dave, i have learned the cleanup will happen this friday and they have already started warning people and we have not had a chance to warn anything because they are sleeping in those tents. we want to ask them where they plan on going and there is about 70 tents here. this grassy field has turned into an open campground for the homeless. city workers are supposed to be here tomorrow to warn many

about the cleanup. people living here will have 72 hours after they get notice and the cleanup will happen again on friday and will include moving trash and debris and taking down structures. it will also be stored for 90 days and the city says this encampment is becoming a worry. people who pass them every morning has this to say. >> who are they hurting, i mean it's cold out here, there is not a whole lot of places, nobody is using that lanni way, i say let them stay. >> the land is owned by the city and its near the airport and nothing can be built on it because of the air traffic. in past clean ups, homeless have moved back into the same

. welcome back, good morning to you, here is a quick look at some of the top stories we are looking at, police are investigating the city's first homicide in five years. richard vega was shot and killed about 10:30 last night. police are searching for a dark colored sedan reportedly leaving the area just after that shooting. just a couple of minutes ago, ktvu channel 2 morning news found out tomorrow the city of san jose will issue a warning to people living near the airport, attract down now more than 100 people are there calling the camp their home. and this morning in rome more than 100 cardinals are meeting to begin the search for the next pope. they will select a new leader

we are not sure what the coast guard will do because it is shallow in the area of that vessel right now. if we pan to the right, you can see all of the different personnel that are here, we have passive can as well as the person in the yellow vest so that is also an area. this guy is working feverishly to keep the boat from toppling over and there is more than one person on board that boat and there are some but we are not sure exactly how many. it looks like three from what we can tell and we will stay here on top of the scene and bring you the live reports to let you know if they are able to salvage this boat or if they

time now 655, police in antioch are searching for suspects in a terrifying shooting. it happened at a home on lipton street. a gunman opened fire on a 19- year-old man who appears to have been on the inside of a car parked in the garage. the shooting victim is expected to survive and it is still not clear what led up to that shooting. a baker's field retirement community is offering condolences to a woman who died after a nurse refused to give cpr despite the pleas of a 911 operator. >> is there nibbling to help this lady and not let her die? >> not at this time. >> it was against the policy of glenwood gardens nursing home to provide medical care at that independent living community. >> what should she have done? something, and what did she do?

you know embarrass all of us who are licensed healthcare professionals. >> residents have to agree to that policy mandating no medical care even before they move in but the facility is now reviewing that policy. they are looking into a suspicious fire and it's not the first time they were called to the campus. the fire at an administrative building was quickly put out. it caused significant damage but fortunately nobody was injured and several fires have been set at the school in recent years. one more day before history is made on the bay bridge, the bay lights project is set today beau tomorrow at 9:00 and the light display will illuminate the north side of the bridge and they are selling lights in hopes of raising the
