a police chase in oakland ended with a two-car crash. firefighters say the crash happened before 9:00 last night and 98 avenue and international boulevard. that is where fire station 20 is located. police wouldn't say what started the chase. we will update this story. investigation into the horrific murder of a well-known chinese herbalist and his family continues. doctor wade and his wife in their daughter were found shot

flareups. there are fortunately no reports of injuries and the fire investigator has now been called to the scene to help figure out how all this started a police chase in oakland ends with a two-car crash in front of a fire station. firefighters say the crash happened just before 9 pm last night on 98th and international boulevard where fire station 20 is. one person was taken to the hospital but we don't know in what condition. we have also check with oakland police but no comment yet on what exactly started that chase extract calls for changes in leadership at the santa clara county jail. we take a look at the recommendations. >> where the pilot all this time? it's a poor plane and a poor pilot. you will crash. >> retired judge doris cordell comments after a mentally ill inmate was killed in august 2014. allegedly at the hands of

weren't going to get the information for a month. >> reporter: he wants the u.s. department of justice to step in and provide oversight. >> i think that is immediate. it needs to happen just like in la. >> speaking on behalf of the sheriff's department and the sheriff, sergeant james jensen says i don't agree with some of miss cordell's recommendations but i do respect the commission's sense of urgency and taking action. i expect to continue moving swiftly and putting in place what is right not easy. cordell is scheduled to present the full plan on april 12. sheriffs deputies are looking for a man who allegedly assaulted a hiker. sheriff's deputies say two women were hiking when they were approached by a man with a handgun. he apparently forced the victims off the trail and into a secluded area. one woman is assaulted before demanding money and running off. the suspect may live in the
area. he is described as 25 years old, 5'5" tall, short black hair and possibly a light mustache. anyone with information is urged to clock -- to contact the solano county sheriff's department. an 18-year-old is being -- is recovering after being struck by a stray bullet in vacaville. deputies say the man went to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. they say he was not the intended target. deputies contacted the person they believe was intended target of the shooting and that person is cooperating with the investigation. police hope a photo will leave them -- lead them to the man wanted for shooting an eight-year-old boy. james gerard is on parole for burglary. investigators believes he was in a silver honda that drove by a house east of the concord airport and opened fire. the 80-year-old boy was -- the eight-year-old boy was shot while playing in the front yard. police say gerard should be considered armed and dangerous.

feet tall. this year, the ceremony featured victory and lynn miller from the house of bagpipes and joann white also took part. a training exercise turns into a real-life rescue operation for some san francisco firefighters. seven of them were thrown overboard after heavy waves capsized their boat off ocean beach. cristina rendon was there. >> reporter: a dramatic rescue operation unfolded in the frigid waters off ocean beach. seven of san francisco's most experienced firefighters and swimmers went overboard when the rescue boat they were training on capsized saturday morning. >> the conditions were pretty calm as i understand it. but i do understand there is a big with that came up, some might call it a rogue wave. >>reporter: firefighters participating nearby quickly came to eight of the crew members helping pull them from the water. >> he was conscious.

avenue near international boulevard. police say the man was shot after getting into some sort of argument. his name has not yet been released but police say he is 24 years old and from oakland. it has been the third killing in the city since thursday night. >> -- the uc president plans to personally monitor how uc berkeley handle sexual misconduct. she will -- she says she will meet with the chancellor weekly to address sexual harassment back the chancellor has recently been criticized for the handle of faculty members accused of assaulting students and staff extract a woman is behind bars after police say she held someone up at gunpoint. it happened yesterday morning along commerce boulevard. police say the woman was brandishing a gun and threatening someone she knew.
the woman with the gun claims someone had stolen jewelry from her. police did not by her story and arrested her. the woman could face charges of suspicious robbery, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon. bart can expect delays between san leandro and bay fair . the stations are closed again for repairs. this could affect some heading out to easter services and to the war years game tonight at oracle arena. fans are being told to expect 30-60 minute delays but buses are running between the two stops. service is expected to resume at 4 am tomorrow. the california minimum wage could be going up. lawmakers reached an agreement to raise the minimum wage from 10th -- $10-$15 an hour. a state senator says the deal is not final yet the governor jerry brown could make a formal announcement as early as tomorrow. california, by the way, already has one of the highest minimum wages in the country. using less water could soon cost stockton residents more money. city leaders say a writ-is

throughout the week, we will get new snow and it will be great. we call it the spring corn harvest. >> you had a great season so far. it has really been incredible. how much of the business is been able to recover from the past seasons? >> it has been a great fantastic year. a lot of happy skiers and riders my coming out of the bay and sacramento areas. everyone at lake level including kirkwood have done absolutely fantastic. it's really nice to see the economy recover when we do get snow. that's funny hostels in the lodges in the snowmobile outfits, cross-country ski places in the lake recover. just behind me on the lake, i want to say about four weeks ago, this was all beach. billions of gallons of water filling back up at the lake setting us up for a great summer operation as well.
>> back in 2010-2011, i remember skiing all the way into memorial day weekend. are you hoping for another year like that? >> i actually think we will see a good year like that. we have enough snow right now to let it melt off and have a great spring. i think what you will see's heavenly will be the resort that stays open to the end of the season. we are getting ready to fire off on our epic discovery, which is a lot of stuff going on for the summer operations. we will close it down after the 17th. we will probably push it here at heavenly but we have to get ready for summer. >> can i get one more happy dance? thanks so much. talk to you soon. >> as he was just saying, the fact that our weather system is actually going to bring them a little more snow. >> you are right.

than an hour. it started just before 4:30 am on -- in a where -- in a warehouse and merritt island. firefighters are still on the scene at this hour watching for any possible flareups fortunately, there are no reports of injuries. a fire investigator is now on scene to figure out how this all started. also new this morning, a police chase in oakland ends with a two-car crash in front of a fire station. firefighters say the crash happened just before 9:00 last night at 98th and international where fire station 20 is located one person was taken to the hospital. still do not know the location -- the exact location or the cause. we take a look at the recommendations made by a special commission for the santa clara jail. >> where was the pilot all this time? if it's a poor plane and a poor
pilot, you are going to crash. >> reporter: ladoris cordell had the blue ribbon commission, set up after a mentally ill inmate, michael tyree was killed in august 2014. allegedly, at the hands of three guards at the santa clara county jail, who now face criminal charges. a measure supported by a majority of commissioners calls on the board of supervisors to take immediate steps to change the leadership of the operation of the jail. >> either they aren't paying attention or they don't get it, or they are incompetent or they just don't care. i don't know. it doesn't matter. what matters is, it crashed. we have now spend all of our time saying fix it. >>reporter: in the face of inadequate healthcare concerns, a scandal involving racist text messages sent by guards, and what the commission says was a shocking lack of transparency, at the commissions meeting saturday, sheriff smith pointed to reforms made at the jail
since michael tyree's death. >> a change of this scope and size is never easy or fast enough. what we have done over the last 18 months really demonstrates our commitment to making the move faster. >> reporter: the tension between the commission and the sheriff reached its peak when cordell recently suggested the sheriff's purchase of cameras for the jail in an and selling flat captured by them amounted to a publicity stunt orchestrated by the sheriff to help sway public opinion in her favor. >> connect the dots. start with purchasing cameras, changing the directive, putting them in that unit and voil@, how magical, there is a fight. >> reporter: sheriff smith fired back with a letter calling cordell's iq -- accusation that she allowed feuding gang members in the same part of the jail knowing a fight would break out a disgraceful lie. rick calendar of the naacp says although the sheriff initially appeared supportive, smith
eventually began to undermine the commission's efforts. >> we were robust on trying to get information we requested, and even looking into the fight, our investigator was told that they weren't going to get the information for a month. >> took calendar once u.s. department of justice to step in and provide oversight. >> we should have the justice department step in and provide oversight. just like in la, we need that here. >> speaking for the sheriff's department and the sheriff's sergeant, james jensen says i don't agree with some of miss cordell's recommendations but i do appreciate the decision to take action. i intend to put in place what is right, not what is easy. cordell is scheduled to present the recommendation to the board of supervisors on april 12. the solano county sheriff's department is looking for a man who reportedly assaulted a hiker . sheriff's deputies say two women were hiking when they were approached by a man with a
handgun. that suspect apparently forced the victims off a trail and into a secluded area. one of the women was assaulted before the man demanded money and ran off. the suspect may live in the area. he is being described as about 25 years old, 5'5" tall, with short black hair and possibly a light mustache. anyone with information is asked to ll the solano county sheriff's department. an 18-year-old is recovering after being struck by a stray bullet in vacaville. it happened yesterday. solano county sheriff's deputies say the man was sent to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. they say he was not the intended target of the gunman. if it is contacted the person they believe was the target of that shooting and they say that person is cooperating with the investigation. concord police have a photo will lead them to the man wanted for shooting an eight- year-old boy. james gerard is on parole for burglary. investigators believe he was in a silver honda that drove by a
house on lasalle avenue east of concorde. the eight-year-old boy was playing in his front yard when he was struck by a bullet in his shoulder. he is expected to survive. gerard is to be considered armed and dangerous. a service will be held for a man who died at a beach in half moon bay. michael dwyer brisbane was reported missing by his family of february 29. earlier that day, a witness reported seeing him swept out to sea. his body washed up earlier this month. according to the daily journal, his service will be held at the first presbyterian church. high school basketball team -- vesta bell teams are working for a title. and it's easter. some are celebrating big with some massive easter egg hunts. this one involved a helicopter. the exciting video coming up next.
