martinez is right outside the school. tell us what administrators are planning today. >> reporter: administrators say there will be extra counselors on staff. they are also seeing more security measures but did not elaborate on what those measures will be. this is are coming after a gun went off inside the school yesterday up with the entire campus and three nearby schools on lockdown. cell phone video posted on an app called citizen shows the students huddled in the corner of a classroom this was no drill rig and announcement had come over the intercom of an armed man on campus. police swarmed the area following reports of gunfire in a classroom during third. students sheltered in place and doors were locked and lights were turned off. officers methodically went through the campus clearing each classroom . the >> as soon as i saw quite a few people crying i saw some people
try to comfort their friends. >> as i walked down here i saw so many other mothers and parents crying and rushing toward the school. they maybe couldn't make contact with their kids. >> police recover the gun and bullet casings. four students were arrested. one student is in custody for discharging the gun and three others were detained as accessory's after-the-fact. another student was hurt when the knauf -- with a non-life- threatening injury. police say it was not gunfire related. the school district says -- says wellness services will be available for students and staff throughout the upcoming week. in san francisco, ktvu fox2 news. this morning a motorcade will take the late senator john mccain to the u.s. capital where he will lie in state. senator mccain's casket arrived at joint base andrews outside washington d.c. yesterday. his family and defense secretary james mattis were there but this morning the vice president, mike pence, will speak at a ceremony for john

on san francisco streets again. applications were approved from two companies. city's transportation agency granted one year permits to the company scoot and skip. they left out the better-known brands, lime, bird, and uber . the agency says scoot and skip both offer the best solutions for the city's concerns including providing helmets and offering in person training. each company will be allowed to deploy 625 scooters in the first six months of the program for the city had issued a cease and desist order to scooter rental companies to allow time to come up with regulations. a bill that would ban gun shows at the cow palace in daly city is headed to the governor's desk. if approved it would put a stop to the five firearms shows a year . the bills authors state senator scott weiner and assemblyman bill tang say people who live near the cal -- cal palace don't want gun shows in their neighborhood. the gun show sponsor, crossroads of the west, says the cal palace will lose more
than $700,000 in annual revenue if that legislation three video from a violent incident on a muni train is circulating this morning. anna sterling shepard us -- share this video -- shared with us this video. you can hear a woman pleading to leave him alone. in a second video you can see two and trying to force a young man off a train. we do not know the names of the men in the video or when this happened. we have reached out to san francisco and muni officials for comment. bart reportedly is in the emergency police patrols it started after their deadly attack on a bart train platform in oakland. earlier this month bart ordered all police officers and all staff members to work 10 hour shifts six days a week. this came after a man stabbed and killed 18-year-old nia wilson at the macarthur art station and severely injured her sister according to the san
francisco chronicle bart switched to a new staffing plan this week. it considers it more manageable for the long-term. violent crime on parts has gone up significantly in the past five years bart recently secured a 6.8 million a $6.8 million federal grant to improve security. bart is also considering a $28 million upgrade that includes more police staffing. smart trains in the north they should be back on schedule this morning after a pedestrian was hit and killed yesterday. police say a 29-year-old man was walking in front of the train just north of the roanoke park station. witnesses saw the man walking with his head down with headphones on and looking at something in his hands. police say they are not sure if you walked in front of the train on accident or on purpose . the man's name has not been released. a newly rebuilt part of highway one along the coast of big sur is already showing
cracks . the quarter mile stretch of road was rebuilt after a big storm last year sent more than 1 million tons of rock and dirt onto the road. caltrans tilt the new road on top of the landslide. it cost $54 million. just reopened last month. caltrans says they know about cracks and they called them superficial cracks. caltrans plans to watch the cracks to make sure the road remains a safe. sal has been talking about busy roads and skies as people head out to begin the labor holiday weekend. the oakland airport expect some is 200,000 passengers to pass through the airport this weekend. the airport says most of the travelers will come through today. passengers are being told to arrive early. millions of people are also expected to hit the road this labor day

welcome back. new requirements for thousands of low income bay area residents who receive food stamps. typically, people have to prove they are working to qualify for cal fresh benefits were qualify for an exemption. for the past 10 years california offered a waiver for the work requirement. starting tomorrow that waiver will no longer apply in san francisco, santa clara, and san mateo counties. other counties will still offer it. the california supreme court ruled people convicted of
crimes don't have the right to have their dna removed from a state database even if there crimes are reduced from felonies to misdemeanors . the proposition 47 past allows the reduction of some felony crimes to misdemeanors. the court ruled that does not require the previously collected dna samples should be removed from the database. the california assembly voted to advance a bill that would put in place the strongest net neutrality provisions in the country. that bill brings back obama era rules ousted by the fcc in december it would prohibit internet service providers from blocking or throttling lawful content, apps, services, or non- harmful devices . the boat followed months of lobbying and internet companies which warned it would lead to higher cost . the bill now heads back to the state senate for final approval. canceled. president trump is canceling the pay raises 2 million government employees including post office workers,
the irs, and workers at the veterans administration. under the law these workers are scheduled to get a 2.1% salary increase next year . the president says freezing federal pay will protect the budget and also save $25 billion. he wants a salaries tied to merit. the unions representing federal workers are criticizing that. they say the massive tax cut president signed into law last december increased the national debt while helping corporations and wealthy americans and giving only a moderate benefit for middle and low income families. >> it's has already boosted the deficit over 10 years by $1.4 trillion. you don't want to give us 2.1%? >> federal employees could still get a salary increase if congress can work oua pay raise in next year's budget. president trump would have to sign it. east bay congressman eric small
wall reacted to the pay freeze and did not mince words. he tweeted coming to the hard- working federal employees who trump just screwed by cutting pay the folks who run our parks, serve our communities, and help our veterans, you matter. a bill is ungovernable brown's desk that would require publicly traded companies based in california to appoint women to the board of directors . the bill mandates that corporate boards include at least one woman by the end of 2019 and as many as three women by the end of 2021, depending on the company's size. women are currently absent for one fourth of the boards of directors in the state . the state chamber of commerce opposes the measure, saying it would elevate women over other underrepresented segments of the population. we have a big traffic problem. sally is following this in the east bay. what happened? >> it is a crash blocking two right lanes of 680 on this no

from the bottom of our hearts. >> aretha franklin's funeral service is scheduled to begin at 7:00 this morning our time. we will take you there live for the coverage of the service throughout mornings on 2 so stay with us for that. at least seven people killed when a semi truck slammed head-on into a greyhound bus in new mexico. all the victims were on the bus there were 49 people on board. several passengers who survived the initial crash are now listed in critical condition. the truck driver is expected to recover . the bus was headed from st. louis to los angeles when it crash on interstate west of albuquerque. the cause is under investigation but reports indicate that truck blew a tire which caused the truck to cross the center median and hit that bus head-on. an 11-year-old boy in wisconsin is recovering after he was rescued from a storm sewer when a firefighter pokin of a manhole and crying for help . wisconsin has been hit hard by severe weather
friends in a flooded drainage ditch when he was swept under the water. a bystander tried to pull him to safety but the rushing water was too strong. he survived by holding onto a ladder that was extended to the top of the manhole cover at the storm sewer. new video this morning of a bear being released into the wild this is in montana . the that bear did not want to go quietly. he jumped onto the truck that just released him. wildlife officials are moving him and another bear to a new area. the bear eventually ran after the driver honked the horn. the bear finally ran off. another bear in north carolina is making himself at home in that hammock. a good day for a nap. the homeowner recorded the moment and said be backyard. looks like a nice spot to lunch

your last chance to get away for the busy. summer vacation season as mentioned, it will be crowded here. over 200,000 people are supposed to pass through the gates over the holiday weekend. if you think that is busy you are right. that's an increase of 8% over last year. if you are picking up or flying out be sure to get here early today because today is the busiest travel day over the labor day weekend. oakland will see nearly 50,000 people today alone. if you are headed this way give yourself at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight. right now there are just a few delays. we have the air covered. how about the highways? chp against maximum enforcement tonight running through midnight on monday . the agency invited people to try on a suit yesterday that assimilates being under the influence and then they got behind the wheel. by the way, that did not go

school. that's where it gun went off inside a classroom. the entire balboa high school campus and two nearby schools are put on lockdown yesterday. the police searched that campus at balboa for almost 2 hours . the they did find a gun and a bullet casing. parents were frustrated over when the students would be released but they were happy that no one was seriously hurt. >> now i'm one of those parents that stood outside my parents -- my child's school not knowing what is happening to the kids and if they are safe. yeah. it is pretty crappy. a pretty crappy parenting experience. >> four students were arrested. one student is in custody for discharging a gun. three others were detained four centuries after the fact. one student was hurt, but police say they were not hurt
by gunfire. new information about a plane crash in early august that killed five people. on august 5 three realtors from danville and two family members were flying from concorde to orange county when it crashed in santa ana. according to a preliminary report the pilot established contact with the control tower in santa ana and was told to hold over a shopping center. multiple witnesses say they saw the airplane enter a left bank turn and then dissented toward the ground at a steep angle. the pilot transmitted emergency three times and then crashed into several vehicles in the shopping center parking lot. about 35 feet from the entrance to a store . the report did not state a possible cause. senator john mccain has arrived back in washington d.c. for a final trip to the u.s. capital. his body will lie in state in the capitol rotunda today and the public can pay respects. doug luzader is joining us live from capitol hill where in just about an hour senator mccain's motorcade is due to arrive. >> reporter: good morning.
this is just one of a series of remembrances for senator mccain . he himself planned just about every step of this journey. for an old navy -- naval aviator one final flight . the john mccain flew from arizona to anders airbase just outside of washington and, arriving last night. later this morning he will be taken to the grounds of the capital where servicemembers were seen rehearsing for this kind of ceremony. for mccain this would carry great significance. a final chance to visit a capital where his now legendary life in politics first took root . >> [ singing ] i did it my way. >> reporter: yesterday in arizona a one-time senate colleague of mccains, former vice president joe biden, spoke glowingly of the man he often opposed but always respected. >> out of this grew a great friendship that transcended whatever political differences we had. i trusted john with my life. i

specifically requested that the president not take part in this . he is abiding by that request. >> doug luzader life from washington. thank you. good news about a mother and daughter visiting from canada who were reported missing . the sheriff's office says that audrey and emily rodrigue have been found safe and sound in the bay area. sheriff's office says they are in good health and they were simply enjoying their trip. officials would not going to why there was a lapse in communication with the mother's boyfriend in canada, but mother and daughter will fly back to canada today. a rally is planned this morning to support a richmond bicyclist activist who was arrested earlier this month. the jerry smith was arrested after the monthly first friday festival on telegraph avenue. that gathering was special because it was in memory of nia wilson who was murdered at the mccart does the macarthur bart station last month. smith was impeding traffic and playing too loud according to police.
the alameda county district attorney declined to file charges against smith but his case is still on the schedule for today. organizers of today's rally say they're still going to meet at the courthouse at 11:00. a 20-year-old san jose man is behind bars facing charges of kidnapping and armed robbery. solomon bell is accused of robbing an 18-year-old san jose state students at gunpoint last week and forcing him to take money out of an atm. after the incident the student was released unharmedteabout last week's story about a peeping tom in one oakland neighborhood. a man sneaking around and looking at homes in the maxwell park area. yet another woman told us the prowler was spotted wednesday night. the second time this month that she saw him in her backyard . the when she bought her house two months ago the seller told her about rumors of a long time peeping tom in that neighborhood. her security camera recorded a middle-aged man with a stocky build who was folding climbing over people's fences.
>> he came to the -- i came to the door and saw him and started yelling and he went back over the fence after i saw him. he seemed to casually walk down the street and walk away as if he was out for an evening stroll. >> since we first reported this story oakland police said they would increase patrols and neighbors have informed a prowler task force aimed at catching the suspect. people in san jose's below plan neighborhood are fed up with an increase in crime and are demanding more police patrol. at a town hall meeting last night neighbors and said police are not doing enough to keep them safe one restaurant owner showed us a surveillance video of a man who broke into his restaurant early monday morning and used a hammer and rummaged through cabinets and the cash register. >> the neighborhood has gotten nicer and more upscale . the quality of life has gone down for us. >> i completely understand where everybody is coming from. you have deep concerns and
fears regarding the safety of our community. >> the san jose police chief says the majority of the recent crimes have omprised of nine juveniles and one adult to know each other. they are link to 95 separate incidents and the chief says he is working with the district attorney on how to keep the juveniles in custody. there was a struggle that broke out on a muni train. you will see it and we will tell you why two men attacked another man and tried to shove him out the door. college football season is underway. we have a preview of stanford and cal's first match up of the season. the commute can be light for some and a little busier for others as one accident has cleared. now we have another accident that popped up. we will tell you where that is coming up. plenty of low clouds. most signs say inland the temperatures will begin a warm- up today. we will show you that on the friday forecast.
