near decatur and us-95. just before 6 a-m las vegas fire and rescue says no injuries have been reported. we have a crew on the scene gathering more information. right now it's estimated, 15- thousand dollars in damage. no one was home at the time of the fire. stay with fox5 news this morning for the latest developments. a new name has emerged as a potential replacement for the late supreme court justice antonin scalia. that name is 'brian sandoval.' the nevada governor could potentially ease tensions in this process between the president and the republican- controlled senate. this is a very interesting

republicans have vowed to block any justice nomination presented by president obama... ...saying that responsibility should be left to the next president. but a republican nominee -- like brian sandoval -- could change their tune. for those who don't understand this process -- the president has the right to nominate a supreme court justice to fill a vacancy. then... the senate must decide to either vote or not vote to confirm the nominee. democratic nevada senator -- harry reid -- says he would support a sandoval nomination. "you know i don't- i don't pick the justices. but i know if he were picked, i would support the man. he's a good person, he has a great record, and he's been a tremendously good governor in spite of having to deal with some very big problems there." sandoval is a former federal judge... and is considered a moderate republican by many. a sandoval spokesperson says neither the governor nor his staff have talked with the white house about the high court

henderson police are working to find the person who left the scene of a hit- and-run. it happened late last night near warm springs and boulder highway. police say the woman was crossing the street when she was struck by a police did find the vehicle early this morning...a silver mercedes- reported stolen. authorities say the victim was outside a marked crosswalk and clothing. a woman is killed in a house fire, after witnesses say she may have tried to rescue her pets. fire crews arrived at the home near nellis and harmon yesterday afternoon. witnesses told firefighters the woman escaped the burning home, but ran back inside and didn't make it out. firefighters found her body. "they said the woman went back in to get her dogs out and didn't. when the firemen came they said they couldn't get her, it was too late. its terrible, terrible

neighbors ended up rescuing her 2 dogs outside the house. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused it. the electric daisy carnival is a billion dollar boost to our economy here in vegas and it's making it's way back to the valley in june. although edc means big money for the city... the event is plagued by rumored drug use and... on average... one person attending the event dies every year. the festival moved to the city from los angeles after a 16 year old overdosed. and since it began here in 20-10... at least one person has died from what the clark county coroner calls " molly intoxication." rodg- with edc there is always that cloud hanging over it that it draws negative publicity because of the people the clientelle or the music that they promote rod- when we talk about specific drugs we see a variety mdma marijuana we do see

well with more 300- thousand people flocking to the event, edc pays off-duty officers to patrol the speedway. last year... nearly 80 people were arrested for drug related offenses and more than 14- hundred needed medical attention. we're learning more about the father who was arrested after his 12-year-old son shot and killed himself. in a recently released arrest report, olin manuel bought a gun from a former co-worker. manuel was on probation and not supposed to have any firearms. he told police his son was recently grounded for bringing marijuana to school and spent a lot of time in his room. manuel says he didn't think the boy was depressed. other children were in the home when the bullet went through the wall. police say the gun was not locked up. more top stories for you this morning... nevada rancher ammon bundy and 15 others have pleaded not guilty to federal conspiracy charges... this comes after a stand off that

a month at a oregon. the government's investigation at now ended and defense lawyers will be able to get a look at evidence in it...as early as today. the stand off which ended with one occupier dead and a group behind bars began when a father and son were ordered back to prison to finish up a sentence for federal arson. militia groups met up to protest what they call "government overreach" on a trial date has been set in april. solutions. this is fox5 news this morning. health officials have declared a syphilis outbreak in las vegas. the southern nevada health district officials 128-percent increase of syphilis cases... and... of the 694 615 involve men. this is the highest rates of syphilis in the west. local health officials are urging people to get tested. - it's very easy to be infected, it's also very easy to treat. it's one of the illnesses that can still be treated with penicillin if syphilis goes untreated... the sexually transmitted disease could affect internal organs and cause neurological problems... as well as increase risks of

here are your photos for the day back to the news desk. long lines and big crowds meant a record turnout for tuesday's republican caucus. the nevada republican party says more than 75-thousand voters cast ballots during tuesday's caucus. that's more than twice the number of people who came out for the 2012 caucus. more than 43- thousand of those votes were for donald trump. in clark county alone... about 52- hundred new republicans registered in the weeks leading up to the caucus. sunshine and the beach could be the reason why naples, florida is the happiest city in the u-s. "healthways" released a report saying the city has the highest well- being in the country. out of 190 cities....naples also has the lowest levels of stress and depression...and also has the most people who eat healthy.

you do need that according to hank... statistically it has been shown that in law enforcement there is a higher risk of divorce, disease and alcoholism sgt. ericsson: i think sometimes people forget that we're just human beings in: we have a super high suicide rate amongst officers, and part of it is having to live with those days of negative situations that have a constant impact in their mind that don't go away and many of these officers.... especially those involved in officer involved shootings.... also suffer from post traumatic stress disorder or ptsd sgt ericsson: everyone once in a while you might have a dream. sometimes the dream goes differently than how it actually happened at at least that's how it's happened with me and while sergeants ericsson and oris currently don't require the services peap has to offer. the healing process continues sgt: oris - to say it's something that still doesn't affect me it wouldn't be true. it still absolutely does. and just like i said earlier me and my wife will still talk about it and or there is still

sandoval. we don't know exactly who -- because they weren't authorized to speak publicly about the situation. senate republicans have vowed to block any justice nomination presented by president obama... but a moderate republican nominee -- like brian sandoval -- could change that. president obama spoke recently about his frustration with senate republicans regarding this process. "i think it will be very difficult for mr. mcconnell to explain how, if the public concludes that this person is very well qualified, that the senate should stand in the way simply for political reasons." before sandoval became the governor of nevada, he was a federal judge. nevada democratic senator -- harry reid -- says he would support sandoval... and was told president obama would make his decision "soon. people are still pretty fired up about two people dressed in k-k-k robes at one of the nevada caucus

demonstrators showed up outside one of the caucus sites at cimarron high school on tuesday. they were wearing white robes and hoods, holding donald trump for president signs. pictures of the pair online even catching the attention of nevada state senator aaron ford. immediate response and the immediate sentiment as you upset that we had there dressed in kkk ccsd police were able to peacefully remove the demonstrators. school police say the two men were white and one of them was wearing black gloves. omar talley -- the suspect in a fatal shooting near the strip went before a judge thursday. his case was postponed for a week, since his private attorney isn't in town. police say talley got in a fight with 3 people inside planet hollywood's parking lot, then shot all 3 of them down the road. "melissa mendoza" and "jennifer chicas" were killed, and a man was injured.

speedway. last year... nearly 80 people were arrested for drug related offenses and more than 14- hundred needed medical attention. we're learning more about the father who was arrested after his 12-year-old son shot and killed himself. in a recent arrest report, olin manuel bought a gun from a former co-worker. manuel was on probation and not supposed to have any firearms. he told police his son was recently grounded for bringing marijuana to school and spent a lot of time in his room. manuel says he didn't think the boy was depressed. other children were in the home when the bullet went through the wall. police say the gun was not locked up. more top stories for you this morning... nevada rancher ammon bundy and 15 others have pleaded not guilty to federal conspiracy charges... this comes after a stand off that lasted more than a month at a wildlife refuge in oregon. the government's investigation at the refuge has now ended and defense lawyers will be able to get a look at evidence in it...as early as today. the stand off

health officials have declared a syphilis outbreak in las vegas. the southern nevada health district officials say they've seen a 128-percent increase of syphilis cases... since 2012.
