philadelphia, wind west at at the 15 making it feel like 29 degrees the in the 20's in the poconos. feels more like teens, right now and wind will keep up as we head throughout the overnight period but snow showers, they will not, over last couple of hours you can see snow shower activity really winding down, and the cloud deck dissipating as well , and looking ahead, toward tomorrow night, new years eve, we're looking receipt i good. the there is a chance of passing syringe will if you are passing flurry to the north and west of the city but otherwise partly cloudy conditions and not all too cold, 39 degrees will be your midnight temperature and we will talk her about that midnight forecast, and what to expect heading out to the eagles game to kick off 2017 in your full forecast coming up in just a few. >> lauren, thank you. security preparations are underway for new years eve celebrations throughout philadelphia. police say that they will be out in force to make sure everyone has a good time, safe ly. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff is live from northeast philadelphia with more on how recent terror attacks abroad have shaped
local preparations. alex? >> reporter: well, jessica this will be one big, busy weekend here in philadelphia, from new years eve falling on a saturday night to sunday's mummers parade and eagles game law enforcement says they will have all hand on deck. there will be plenty of distractions, overhead, and through the streets this holiday weekend but police are asking participant to remain vigilant on reporting anything that seems out of the ordinary extra patrols and security measures will be in place new years eve and throughout the weekend heightened by incident of terror around the world and at large events. most recently december 19th christmas village attack from berlin, this in mind law enforcement locally teamed up with officials and other nearby major sit toys make sure that everyone can have a safe, fun, start to 2017. >> i personally been in contact with the nypd as well as pennsylvania state police, septa police, fbi here in philadelphia to make sure that we're all on the same page. we're all well coordinated

>> reporter: there is a lot of preparation that goes into incorporating in the new year, ready reading terminal market is ready with people getting ready a lot of people here. first time everybody is getting a line. everybody wants good food for the holiday. we have a good food. >> reporter: significant rush of business between thanksgiving through new years said butch dougherty of this produce shop. >> we have to bring in more produce and more specialty items. >> reporter: caroline wright making sure that she has what she needs for her new years damien you. >> black eye peas, i have to, and rice, and string beans. >> reporter: meantime restaurant are busy, too. >> we have take out. >> reporter: cuba libre in olde city is expecting 400 people to she up for prefix menu and after party. >> we are doing three entrees. >> reporter: team here has been preparing for new years eve celebration since august. >> late night portion we have a crazy special midnight madness going on where we have glow sticks and throwing out bead and wrist band that light

family, and these kid were partying hard. >> are you having fun today? >> yes. >> reporter: what have you done so far. >> a doughnut. >> reporter: you ate a doughnut. >> yes. >> reporter: complete with sweets, pizza, presents, games , ball dropping, making activity, funny fire works and those all so necessary noise makers. du pont hospital, went all out , for these kids to just feel like kids, and make every moment count this one helps kids heel and get better and get the out of the hospital faster. >> we will try to do everything we can to make holidays special for children and families and help them really celebrate the way they would if they were at home. >> reporter: carli just got out of surgery and wasn't about to miss out on the fun but she says the way that this hospital spreads joy, plays a huge part in what she likes it here. >> i have been coming here since i was 46789 i'm 20 years old now. i'm not going anywhere else.
