the british prime minister visits the city of saul's worry on the first anniversary of the poisoning of a former russian double agent and his daughter moscow was just one and is withholding the full truth of what happened twelve months ago. also this hour an offshoot of the own kind of terror group stages a deadly surprise attack in syria because the u.s. offers a million dollar reward for information on the solid london sun. i'd like to see as broad a coalition as we can put together to replace the door to replace the whole corrupt regime. the u.s. national security adviser considers an international coalition to help get
venezuela's opposition leader into power and invokes a sentry's old doctrine to justify ousting the country's president. you're watching arts and international for your global news update this hour welcome to the program. british prime minister tourism a visit to the city of solsbury a year after the poisoning of former russian double agents of the script ball and his daughter yulia twelve months on and the finger is still squarely point about moscow although it claims the u.k. is failing to provide answers to even the simplest of questions regarding the case . reports. well to reason may's commemorated the anniversary of the attack against the script files she's visited souls' bree and earlier she
put out a statement saying that she commended the way of all those that took pot in the decontamination effets off transitions of souls who have had to enjoy a pretty eventful year i've been talking to some of the. people and many of them say they're still processing what happened take a lesson. to teach each other so. little. and we can just go to. be great. you really get it it's part of you made people see so. i put my bike from there the everyday life what's a mobile supporter with me so i just went straight back in for i so i wouldn't pick anything up any more. or less than i'm true to contamination is complete so. i don't think me saying well one year ago you'd be hard pressed to find many people
outside the u.k. that knew much about the town of souls very or perhaps the height of the spier of the famous cathedral here but the attack against the script files that took place have put this place on the map and the international scandal that ensued has really ensured that sols berry has stayed rather famous it was here it was actually on a park bench on this green that on the fourth of march last year so gay and his daughter yulia scripts are were discovered slumped unconscious they were taken to hospital and pretty soon afterwards it became clear that this wasn't an ordinary medical incision that they were dealing with the script had been poisoned with military grade nerve agent a substance known as nova chalk that had been produced in the soviet union and pretty soon after that the prime minister to resign made pinned the finger of blame squarely on mosco and there were diplomatic expulsions and
a war of words ensued over what really had taken place here london says the kremlin dispatched a hit squad to come here russian military agents arrived in soulsby they say shortly before the poisoning took place they were with us. toxic nerve agent and this is something that moscow denies that and continues to press for information and access to the investigation is saying that actually two russian nationals are involved here and we know nothing about what's happened to them take a listen to the russian foreign ministry spokesperson if people in the west in the u.k. and washington and brussels think russia will just let this slide they are mistaken sergey script files nice victoria's secret powell has also been talking at a press conference in moscow and she says that she still can't get hold of her relatives and she's being denied any information about how they're doing or their whereabouts take
a listen. with the british embassy have been telling me since day one that it cannot help me that i have to call the russian embassy in the u.k. under pressure from the media degree to let me make of this application but i was refused to visa twice on form of reasons and they even didn't return my passport to me personally they sent it i'm a bit too even staying at the border of britain so diplomatic relations between london and moscow are still pretty much at rock bottom and this candle is the cause of much of the animosity between london and moscow with the decontamination head declared complete series are made says she hopes that the town can put the script saga behind them that this place will be known for the beautiful city that it is rather than the tragedy that is taking place here over the past year. syrian army forces suffered heavy losses this weekend in the north of the country
eight hundred soldiers were killed during a so number of casualties were confirmed to our to arabic by the army and with washington recently putting up a million dollar reward for information on a summer been one sun it looks like the war on terror has been given for. impetus as explains. the war on terror. begins with. but it does not in there the war on terror is almost a tradition now a part of the american way of life no end in sight either so traumatic it was nine eleven that it set america off on a seemingly endless crusade there's an old poster out west as i recall that said wanted dead or alive and it does seem endless no matter how many battles they win how many islamist sex they destroy how many bin ladens they kill is always
someone else we deliver devastating blows to the car the leaders that attacked us on nine eleven. deliver justice. we have won against isis we've beaten them and we've beaten him badly now it's the sama bin laden's son hamza bin laden and washington is afraid that he's becoming a new terror to some of the blood and is emerging as a leader in the a.q. franchise how has been has released audio and video messages on the internet calling on his followers to launch attacks against the united states and its western allies eased thirty also recently praised by the leader of al qaida blacklisted by the un married allegedly to the daughter of a nine eleven plane hijacker favored by his late father sama as his successor he's calling for attacks on the u.s.
to avenge the killing of his father same crazy ideology what's unclear his whereabouts the u.s. seems to believe you could be anywhere in south central asia it all leads to one conclusion. apparently al-qaeda is coming back showing signs of confidence will through the threat from radical islamic terrorism a continuing threat posed by al qaeda there are according to various estimates more than thirty thousand active fighters across a number of countries loyal to al qaida ironically the u.s. stands accused of arming them though unintentionally in syria with weapons intended for moderate groups being seized by islamists in yemen c.n.n. reported with the saudis and their coalition partners handing american made weapons to oil qaeda linked fighters history it seems repeats itself in the nine hundred
eighty s. during the soviet war in afghanistan the u.s. funded and armed the mujahideen including asama bin laden. they called them freedom fighters the mujahideen the islamists when they were fighting the u.s.s.r. but it didn't take long for those freedom fighters to morph into terrorists and the taliban into al qaida and they just won't go away no matter how many times they beat them it seems they just keep rising from the dead. back in the bottle if the us does not want to put it back in the bottle the us funnel funnel. thousands of tons of weapons into syria to our forces that it knew very well were. allied with al qaida and allied with the muslim brotherhood and so when it
suits the u.s. purposes it will work with al-qaeda and other terrorists and when they become a problem either after september the eleventh or after they morphed into islamic state in. a rock then of course it will it will attack them. but amir putin has officially suspended russia's participation in the intermediate range nuclear forces treaty which was a key cold war era nuclear agreement for more on this we're now joined live in the studio by in their patrol thanks for joining us what does this move by putin mean well the i.n.f. treaty which has been banning land based missiles with ranges up to five thousand five hundred kilometers since one thousand nine hundred eighty eight is falling apart completely the u.s. and russia have been doing it step by step and president putin has just made
another formal one he actually signed a document which spends it on the russian side but everyone realized it was the beginning of the end of this agreement back in october last year when donald trump started bashing that treaty the u.s. government came up with an ultimatum demanding that russia stop violating the rules and russia said it wasn't violating anything the tit for tat began and it was due. and it is the only problem for the treaty russia has a legit violations then the u.s. government donald trump administration has been trying to make it seem that the number one reason is russia's behavior but there is something important here the fact is that originally the i.m.f. agreement was signed between the leaders it was signed by the leaders of russia back then the u.s. and the u.s. so no other countries were obliged to do anything under it and in his latest
statements the american president donald trump isn't even trying to hide that another very important reason for this could be the fact that for instance china is not getting involved in this older agreement. decades ago the united states entered into a treaty with russia in which we agreed to limit and reduce our missile capability well we followed the agreement and the rules to the letter. russia repeatedly violated its terms we really have no choice. perhaps we can negotiate a different agreement it adding china and others or perhaps we can't in which case we will outspend and out innovate all of theirs by far. so as you can see mr trump is already saying that he's ready to develop new weapons
as i've mentioned again russia's been saying all along that washington is lying that moscow is not violating anything and at some point they were actually ready to invite experts from abroad to examine the weapon system in russia that was of particular concern for the u.s. but that invitation was ignored and terms of the next steps by the russian military russia's development and deployment of missile systems a lot of our putin has made it clear that no initial steps will be made by his country the only things that he's going to order to be done can only be in response to hostile actions by america and the allies in nato. well us partly geisha is to unilaterally withdraw from it like they did in two thousand and two which they did in an honest way when they pulled out of the i.b.m. treaty i felt it was done the wrong way but at least they did it in
a straightforward manner but how do they act in fact they violate everything and find excuses to put the blame on someone russia does not a defense we never seek confrontation we do not want to especially with a global power like the us so again as i've said this signature by mr potent isn't a surprise at all it's just the formal official stab what we have to wait and see what we have to wait to watch out for is the next actual moves on the ground by the militaries of the world's biggest military powers. thank you for saying across that story for us. a male british rapper has broken a women's weightlifting record we'll tell you why after the break.
i've been saying the numbers mean something they've mattered the u.s. has over one trillion dollars in debt more than ten white collar crime happens each day. eighty five percent of global wealth he longs to be culled from rich eight point six percent employment market most thirty percent some with one hundred five hundred three first second first second and fifth when he rose to twenty thousand dollars. china's building two point one billion dollars a i industrial park but don't let the numbers overwhelm. the only number you need to remember in one one business show you know bored to miss the one and only boom box.
welcome back to the program that as well as a self-proclaimed interim president has pledged to return to the country on monday he left venezuela in late february in defiance of a travel ban imposed by the country's supreme court and since then he's been touring latin america to race support u.s. national security adviser john bolton has warned against any attempts to prevent quite as return on twitter he said there would be a significant response from washington should quote a safety be threatened. and in a recent interview. i'd like to see as broad a coalition as we can put together to replacement to replace the whole corrupt
regime block in this administration we're not afraid to use the phrase monroe doctrine this is a country in our hemisphere it's been the objective of american presidents going back to ronald reagan to have a completely democratic hemisphere. now the monro doctrine you just heard mention by bolton was formulated by president james monroe in the nineteenth century its purpose was to stop any european interference in the affairs of nations in the americas but many interpret the doctrine as a justification for america's own interventions in the region russia's chief diplomat has been blunt about his issues with it. this was the cook since the creation of the united nations in one thousand nine hundred five through international rule has been regulated under the auspices of this universal legitimate organization of the syrian practices backyards is insulting well according to the russian foreign minister the use of the doctrine is insulting to the regional powers to the countries in latin america and you said that this whole
thing should also be concerning to other nations because right now the united states have an ambition change the venezuelan gov talks about john bolton's statements regarding russia's a john bolton. in a recent tweet called my duro a liar for saying that russia basically supplied the venezuelan nation with humanitarian aid sergey lavrov pointed out that russia did supply seven and a half tons of medicine through international organizations to sort all of that is easily tracked and monitored associate professor at george mason university what a lucrative career cabrera feels the maro doctrine has no place in the modern world they're violating the fundamental. foundations of democracy and without and so to negotiation by the international community but they are talking about here is america for the americans going back to the mongo doctrine and no interference from
any other stand on the blocks that they create this is very problematic because they can really. because of the fact that we're going to see there are no other all or world and i don't really know what would i mean what would that mean even if america can be only for americans when you're talking about a world that's more globalized when other countries also have interest in the americas economic interests very important economic interests. a male british rapper has broken a women's weightlifting record while identifying as a female to highlight what he calls the absurdity of claims there is no biological strength difference between men and women. i keep hearing about how biological men don't have any physical strength advantage of women in two thousand and nineteen so watch me destroy the british women's deadlift record without trying
p.s. i identified as a woman whilst lifting the weight don't be a bigot. zuby is a viral tweet got over a million views and comes amid a backlash against the growing number of athletes identifying as female in women's events british olympic swimmer sharon davies tweeted that women sport must be quote protected from people born as men however the world's first transgender world champion cyclist rachel mackinnon hit back insisting trans women athletes have no unfair advantage now olympic rules state men can participate as women without having surgery as long as they undergo hormone therapy to bring down to stock levels. we're now joined live by the rapper behind the viral videos to be think you for joining us now why do you think your weightlifting record video went viral and what have been some of the responses to it. so i think the video went viral because you know very clear way it demonstrated the entire notion. it dispelled
the entire notion that there is no inherent biological strength advantage that men have over women i mean that's something that we've known for thousands of years it's the reason why men's and women's sports are segregated and always have to have been to maintain fairness so i think the video went viral because it touched on a timely issue and it was somewhat amusing and comical people did find it funny but underneath all that i think it did bring light to important conversation that a lot of that's happening all over the world right now. and what kind of response have you gotten to that video. while a lot of them it's been it's been difficult to keep up with it i mean as you said it's had over a million views now and thousands and thousands of comments from all over the world i would say that ninety nine percent of them have been very positive lots of people have found it amusing a lot of women actually reached out to thank me for voicing up about the issue and
demonstrating what the actual reality is and there's been a very tiny amount of negative backlash i'd say out of the thousands of comments i would say less than twenty of them have been negative this is of course a very touchy subject to have anyone to accuse you of insulting trans that gender athletes and if so how would you respond to that. well according to their own logic they have no proof that i myself did not identify as a woman was doing that video so by their own logic i could easily accuse them of being transphobia or being bigoted by claiming that i in fact was not a woman at the time that video was recorded because they have no proof of that they've said that one can self identify as whatever they want and they therefore the onus of proof that i didn't fight as a man was doing that the burden of proof is actually on them. do you see
a problem with the current olympic rules on transgender athletes that they just have to prove that a year before that their testosterone levels were under a certain level. absolutely because testosterone is not the only difference that gives men physical advantage over women especially in strength and speed there are other factors as well if someone has gone through puberty as a male you are likely to be considerably taller especially at the extreme ends you're going to have a different bone structure you're going to have bigger hands bigger your entire muscular skeletal system will still remain that of a man so if i were to take some hormone blockers and suppress my testosterone levels for a twelve months i still would be i'd still have considerable physical advantages over someone who's been woman for their entire life so it's not just as simple as the testosterone levels so in your opinion is it ever possible for a transgender woman to be physically equal to
a biological woman. no because the d.n.a. and every chromosome in that person's body is still male and as i said if they have gone through puberty as. as a male as a biological male there will still be inherent differences so. i have no nothing against i don't think anybody in this debate has anything against any individuals or groups it's merely about maintaining fairness and not distorting reality in a way that could actually be very harmful and perhaps even you know could actually ruin women's sport if it's led to go to its full conclusion really. opponents of having transgender people competing in women's sport have suggested creating a separate competition for transgender women or men as it may be is that trans phobic then. having in additional league no not at all that would actually be
potentially fair i don't know if there are enough athletes for that to be a practical idea in reality i don't know i don't know what the numbers are but that would certainly be fairer than having those people competing against biological women if that does happen then after a certain amount of time it would actually lead to all of the world records all of the champions being biological men if it's as simple as self identification and a little bit of hormone suppression i mean that's not that's not enough you can't level the playing field because the biological differences remain. i'd say it's fair to say that you've come at this head of with a bit of a tongue in cheek approach to this topic but would you say it's a bit of a social taboo to talk about these sort of issues. it might be i will be honest and say i don't really care about that very much a truth speaker and a truth seeker i value being on it i value being as objective as possible the goal
is not to hurt anybody's feelings i think some people like to pretend to be offended to try to shut down debate or to not listen to other arguments it's a very common tactic that people use and i know what my intentions are the intentions are good and as i said. you know that i think that the way people responded to it i think the vast majority of people understand what i'm saying and i think people are grateful that i did it and provided them with some entertainment in the process full time independent rapper and creative entrepreneur thank you so much for joining us on the program. that's a wrap up of the day's top headlines for now and that's all for me as well but worry not neil harvey will be here in about thirty minutes at the latest thanks for tuning in wherever you may be. join me every thursday on the alec simon show and i'll be speaking to us from the
