Fiqh as-Sunnah Kitâb at-Tahârah #74
soil used for Tayammum
a consensus that it is permissible to use soil that has a dust to it and which
can be farmed.
Is it permissible with everything that is
similar to soil, such as sand, gypsum, marble and so on (As is the opinion of the Ahnâf and the Mâlikiyyah)?
Or is nothing
allowed aside from pure soil that has dust (As is the opinion of the Shâfi’iyyah
and the Hanâbilah and the opinion of Abû Yûsuf al-Ansârî)?
Or is it permissible
to use anything that is on the top of the ground, even grass, ice, and so on
when it separates you from the soil (As is an opinion of the Mâlikî Math’hab)?
