good morning. it's 6:00. developing right now, police in new jersey are trying to sort out a wild crash that injured a uniformed police officer. that officer is in the hospital. we are live in jersey city. >> another day, another drone above kennedy airport. what we are learning about the latest close call. >> saying good-bye. the family of bobbi kristina brown gathering in new jersey this morning where she will be laid to rest beside her mother, whitney houston. good morning, i'm shirleen allicot in in for lori stokes. >> i'm ken rosato. thank you for joining us. it's monday, august 3rd. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic and meteorologist bill evans with the accuweather forecast. >> here is what is going on this morning. take a look at this beautiful sunrise as you look from the camera to the east side. a gorgeous start to your day. temperature 75 degrees. partly cloudy skies. stratus clouds. a few cumulus clouds thrown in there.

71 islip to bridgeport. 63 poughkeepsie. 75 around central park. we will get to 79 by 9:00. 90 this afternoon with the humidity it will feel like the mid-90s. hot and humid august dog days. those are coming to an end thursday. we will talk about that in the accuweather seven-day forecast coming up in a moment. how are you doing. >> i'm doing all right. we have an issue with the two trains. we have mechanical problems. that's downtown near grand concourse you will find the 2 by the 5 line as a result. long island railroad, new jersey transit doing fine. metro north waterbury branch, ongoing work in bridgeport. no major problems at the hudson river crossings. minor delays across the board. 78 to the westbound side near exit 3, tractor trailer fire extinguished. crews are out there now trying to clean up the debris from the tractor trailer fire. one lane is open.

then we have 51st, 52nd. street cleaning rules are in effect. we begin with the developing story out of new jersey. a new jersey police officer among several injured in a chaotic collision. >> a speeding minivan triggered a chain reaction crash at ocean and myrtle avenues. eyewitness news reporter kristin thorne is live at jersey city medical center. kristin? >> reporter: the exact condition of the officer recovering here is still unclear at this point. this officer is just one of multiple people recovering after this accident. it happened after 8:00 last night in jersey city on ocean avenue near myrtle. police say the driver of this minivan was speeding, lost control, hit another car forcing that car up to the sidewalk, crashing into pedestrians including that jersey city police officer. it's unclear how many people were injured. we did speak to witnesses who saw the entire thing happen.

police did detain the driver of that minivan. it's still unclear at this point if any charges have been filed. live in jersey city this morning, kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you, kristin. new this morning, take a look at this picture. this man has been on the run since july 24th. he is suspected of snatching a bag filled with $20,000 from an s.u.v. in the bronx. police say the victim left the car unlocked in front of a bodega at webster and east 178th in mount hope. the suspect took off in a minivan and police think the getaway vehicle was a honda odyssey. federal airline investigators are looking into a drone sighting over kennedy airport. sources confirm to abc news the pilot of a shuttle america flight from richmond, virginia, spotted the drone on the left side of the plane as it approached the runway at j.f.k.

yesterday evening. >> >> [ indiscernible ] >> pilots from two different planes reported seeing a drone near the aircraft as they came in for a landing friday. port authority police are investigating. shirleen? >> all right, ken. today the family of bobbi kristina brown will painful memory, returning to the same cemetery where her mother, whitney houston is buried. a private funeral was held for the 22-year-old. eyewitness news reporter kala rama is live in westfield now. kala? >> reporter: the procession will come here around 1:00 as they enter the gates, the same place where whitney houston is laid to rest. this is the area you will want to avoid. it will cause traffic concerns for most of your day. we are talking about east broad street and gala hill road which will be closed starting at

10:00 this morning. we saw the same sad situation three years ago. you may recall whitney houston was found unconscious and unresponsive in a bathtub at the beverly hilton hotel in california the night before the grammy awards in 2012. houston's only daughter, bobbi kristina was found the same way unconscious in a bathtub in her georgia home she shared with her boyfriend. her aunt, leolah brown was kicked out of the funeral service after accusing pat houston from trying to profit off her death. >> pat houston, this will be a long drawn out thing, trust me. it's not over. it's not over. chrissy will be remembered in our hearts forever just like whitney will, okay. i really loved my niece. i am so saddened that this happened to her, right after her mother. >> reporter: bobbi kristina's

burial service starts around 1:00. the roads in the area, east broad street and gallo hill road will be closed starting at 10:00 and remain closed until after the ceremony is finished. kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> kala, thank you. many of you have been remembering bobbi kristina on our facebook page. read more about her life at abc7ny on the web and your mobile device. we are learning new details about the man accused of shooting and killing a police officer in tennessee. investigators are searching for tremaine wilburn. he was the passenger in an illegally parked car when they say he opened fire on officer shawn bolton in memphis. the 33-year-old officer and marine veteran apparently interrupted a drug deal. the driver turned himself over to police but was not charged.

in baltimore, an unprecedented level of violence. the killings hit a high point after the death of freddie gray in police custody and sparked days of rioting. the first presidential debate for republicans will be held this thursday but 14 of the contenders get to warm up tonight in new hampshire at the voters first forum. it will be the first time together for those 14 candidates. each will get to address the forum for seven minutes. the forum tresses the role voters play in the early stages of the nomination battle. >> hillary clinton is writing big checks to cover the first two tv ads for her presidential campaign but they star her late mother, dorothy rodham. the push is being called the dorothy campaign. the one minute ads air tomorrow in the early primary states of iowa and new hampshire.

welcome back. first look at the tornado that touched down in a field outside of desmoines, iowa. a field, i should say. the twitter kicked up debris. it was on the ground a half hour. good news, nobody got hurt. it it was part of a series of storms that hit the area causing damage to homes and farms. eked american doctor is facing accusations of illegally killing a lion in zimbabwe. >> this comes as they call for the extra days of james palmer. they say a doctor shot a lion on a bow and and row on land where hunting is not allowed. the landowner was arrested and investigation.

near exit 18 an overturned vehicle being out to 78, westbound side out by exit 3. they are still trying to clean up the tractor trailer fire. one lane getting by as a result. we have alternate side of the street parking rules in effect today. ken, over to you. >> thank you. in new jersey, police are talking to the driver behind the wheel of a minivan that slammed into people on a jersey city street. police officer was one of several people injured when the van crashed into other cars eyewitness news reporter kristin thorne is live in kristin. >> reporter: good morning, ken. the exact condition of the officer recovering here is still unclear. we know the officer was one of just multiple people brought to local hospitals after this accident happened shortly after 8:00 last night in jersey city on ocean avenue near myrtle. police say the driver of this minivan was speeding, lost control of the car, smashed into another car forcing that

car up to the sidewalk, crashing into pedestrians including that jersey city police officer. it's unclear at this time exactly how many people were injured. we spoke to witnesses who say they saw the entire thing happen. >> i tried to chase it down. he started swerving out of control. his back wheels gave out. he hit the back of the gray car hit the cop. the cop is on the floor. >> reporter: police did detain the driver of that minivan. it's unclear if any charges have been filed. live in jersey city, kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> kristin, thank you. this morning calls to stop the violence are growing louder in the city after a weekend filled with gunfire. 19 people were shot between friday and yesterday in six incidents in brooklyn and queens. three of those victims died. police are trying to find two gunmen suspected of wounding nine people in east new york early sunday. investigators say they were uninvited guests at a gathering celebrating the life of a young girl.

one of the victims described the mayhem. >> bullet whizzed past my head. i ran. then i realized after a while, smoking. >> no arrests have been made in any of the weekend shootings. anyone with information is asked to call crimestoppers. people living in the south bronx will get answers tonight legionnaires' disease. the city department of health says 71 people have been diagnosed with the does since last month. four people died. city officials say the fatalities have been older people with preexisting health conditions. five buildings where the bacteria was found have been decontaminated. the town hall meeting will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. stay with eyewitness news for complete coverage. the fbi is

sunday bombings in new mexico. first outside the calvary baptist church then outside holy cross catholic church. there were no injuries and damage to the buildings was minor. investigators say they have no suspects. president obama will unveil new regulations in fighting greenhouse. it will require power plants to cut emissions by 32% the next 15 years. several republican lead states are expected to challenge the new regulations in court. new muscle for the biden movement. josh alcorn has joined the super pac urging joe biden to run for president. alcorn used to work for the vice empty -- he worked for beau biden. as beau lay dying of brain cancer, he repeatedly press his father to promise that he would run for president.

an entire family. severe storms in chicago left more than a dozen people hurt and one man dead after a tent collapsed at a festival. a man was killed when strong winds collapsed the tent at prairie fest. 15 other people were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. scene. now a developing story in northern california. thousands of people being told to get out of their homes as wildfires tear through the region. the largest about 100 miles north of san francisco. the clear lake fire more than doubled in size over the weekend. 50 buildings have been destroyed including 24 homes. 12,000 people have been ordered to evacuate. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic beginning with bill evans. >> here we go.

we take a look down. nice we near as we can see from liberty island to ellis island to staten island and sandy hook, new jersey. great visibility with a lot of sunshine. here is our camera this morning looking to brooklyn over to the lower seaport. 75. humidity in the moderate zone. you can see this is kind of weakening as they come into this dry air that we have. mostly a southwest wind. a little humidity with it. noontime temperature 87. we get to 90 this afternoon. more of the same tomorrow across the area. a big cool down this week and rain at the end of the week. we will talk about that in just a moment. problem on the gwb. >> we have a problem on the george washington bridge. we have newscopter 7 up above the bridge. john del giorno is showing us pictures of the stalled vehicle. it was a white minivan in the right lane.

brooklyn. eyewitnesses snatched photo is of a chopper that touched down on a gulf coast yesterday morning. he landed because of smoke and fumes in the cockpit. the crew came up from atlantic city to monitor an oil spill in bayonne. a bus driver from new york city critically injured in a deadly crash in north carolina. an apex coach bus was traveling south on 95 near benson when i struck a guardrail. the bus crossed into the northbound lanes before crashing into a media. police tell your sister station in raleigh that the bus driver fell asleep at the wheel and was thrown from the bus. another car swerved off the road to avoid the bus and struck a tree instead. a passenger was killed. the bus driver may face charges. firefighters are being credited with saving a family from a burning building. flames spread through the building in brownsville trapping five children

including a two on the old baby and two adults. firefighters brought the family to safety. the red cross is helping the displaced residents find shelter. a commuter alert this morning. fast track repairs will change the overnight commute for r train riders another week. no service weeks nights 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. and bypass stations between 36th and atlantic avenue.
