we're almost there, the weekend. we are following two developing stories. a deadly plane crash off the coast of queens and we are live on the scene where a massive search effort is underway. >> a girl grazed in the head by a bullet sitting in her home. >> a foggy start to our day. we could see record breaking temperatures by the end of the week. good morning. i'm lori stokes. >> thank you for joining us, i'm ken rosato. it's thursday, november 5th. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic and bill evans with the exclusive accuweather forecast.
>> look at our camera. like you said, a foggy morning. visibilities are reduced down to tenths of a mile as we start the day. when you have this hazy foggy look around, we will look at the visibility reduced to about 10:00. dense fog in effect. 58 degrees. normal low is 45. it looks like we have clear skies but we have a low cloud cover and fog around. this will burn off by 10:00 and a warm day today, back to around 70. tomorrow we will set a record high. that's right. i can tell you that right now because that's what i do. i'm in the forecasting business. >> that is a wonderful forecast. let's go to the mass transit chart. mass transit systems are on or close to schedule. no major problems if you want to use new jersey transit, long island.
ed koch, 59th street bridge queens-bound upper level the accident has been cleared away. that was reported earlier. harlem river drive north, willis avenue bridge up to 125th street that is construction. all lanes are subject to closure. street cleaning rules are in effect. ken, over to you. >> thank you. developing this morning, authorities try to identify the body found after a plane crashed in the waters off breezy point queens p. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live near the scene where the search for more debris is underway. >> late last night divers were able to recover a man's body from the water. he is believed to be the pilot, the only person on board the plane. there is an active effort to recover more damage but the dense fog hampering the effort. this is a picture that the operations unit tweeted out showing the tail of the fixed wing single engine aircraft.
they were able to recover some of the damage the wing, a wheel among some of the items recovered about a mile and a half off the breezy point shoreline. someone saw the plane crash into the water and called 911. the coast guard, nypd and fdny launched a search effort and located the airplane and found the pilot's body. the airplane was registered in new hampshire. the last flight plane filed had it flying from new hampshire to philadelphia. it's believed it was on a return trip to new hampshire when the plane went down. back live on the beach, initially there was a thought there was a woman on board the airplane because there was knee male luggage recovered in the water. police have eliminated that theory believing the only person on board was the pilot. nypd officers are en route to
the water. behind me a mile and a half from where we are, that search effort continues. they expect to cover more territory in the morning when first daylight because right now between the fog and rough surf they cannot get a lot of work done in the way of recovering items floating in the water. live in breezy point, dray news. >> dray, thank you. developing in new jersey this morning, two people were hit by bullets during a shoot out. one victim grazed in the head watching television in her own home. eyewitness news reporter kala rama is live in asbury park with new reaction. >> reporter: the 9-year-old girl is doing okay but she was at home minding her business, watching ghostbusters with her family when she was grazed in the head by a bullet. she is okay and recovering but as you can see the scene behind me is still blocked off. take a look.
this was around 7:30. police say an officer was on patrol in the area of spring wood when he spotted a man wanted in an investigation. he stopped the 19-year-old suspect and feels a gun during a pat down. that's when the suspect takes off running, firing shots at the officer, according to investigators. the officer fires back hitting the suspect in the leg. he is now recovering at jersey shore medical center. but during the gunfire, that is when the 9-year-old girl was grazed in the head watching tv in her home. a local pastor who heard the commotion said none of this should have happened. >> there is no reason to be shooting that way. if it was a danger, it could have cost the life of a 9-year- old girl. >> reporter: the officer involved was not injured to be clear. they are still trying to determine whose gun was involved in hitting the 9-year- old girl. that 9-year-old girl is recovering at home this morning.
kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> kala, thank you. british and american intelligence officials think there is a good chance that that russian jet that crashed saturday was brought down by a bomb on board. they are looking at evidence of possible bomb damage to bodies in the rear of the plane. it picked up an odd sound before the jet broke apart in midair. they have suspended all flights two and from egypt stranding 20,000 british travelers. police in queens are looking for three robbers that burst into a pharmacy in queens. employees come face to face with the masked trio that forced them to show them all the prescription drugs on the shopping list. including oxycontin, xanax and other pills. one employee said they did what they were told. >> you can't predict. you may have medication or some
problems. you don't know what they are going to do. >> the workers were tied up and robbed. luckily they did not get hurt. anyone with information is asked to call crimestoppers. there is a viewing today for the new jersey pastor found dead in his church p. reverend ron christian will lie in state at his church. his funeral will be saturday. christian battled heroin addiction and did time in prison. he was found dead in his office last friday. the official cause of death isn't expected for several months. dozens of demonstrators are in police custody after facing off cuny headquarters on the upper east side. >> if you refuse to disburse, you will be placed under arrest and charged with disorderly conduct. >> reporter: more than 50 protestors were arrested for blocking the

we can't even find the blown bridge barely. we can -- the brooklyn bridge barely. fog is the sign of a stable atmosphere. it's the warm air surging up and over hours. temperature 58. normally we should be about 45. we are looking at a southerly wind creating dense sea fog. we have clear skies back to the great lakes. we will have sunshine today. we got this fog through the morning hours then this afternoon the temperatures will get to around 70 degrees. seven minutes. you got fog everywhere out there. >> when i was traveling down the helix to get to the lincoln tunnel, it was as if manhattan crazy. turnpike. this is near exit 9. you can see -- well, you can barely see, i should say, lots of fog out there. let's go to the maps and i will tell you on the new jersey turnpike between exits 12 and

you have the cup here. when i see a cup, i think of coffee, don't you, heather? heather drinks tea. well, i think of coffee. thank you, calvin and our crew out there this morning. we have fog around the rest of the area. low visibilities. 58 degrees. look at the humidity. 90%. we will have a light wind. for fog to develop, you can't have wind out there. the wind will disburse the fog. the light wind, high humidity, pressure 30, 31, the sign of a stable atmosphere. sign is a -- fog is a sign of stability. that is like a crowd to the ground. we will have a foggy morning. we have dense fog. it will mean delays particularly at the airports. heather will have more on that. we have drizzle tomorrow morning. tomorrow is another warm day. we will hit a record high tomorrow. it will be cooler this weekend.
seasonal sunshine on sunday. here are the visibilities. white plains at the airport .3, newark, 2. the park reporting a mile point 3 and that it is the mess visibility out there. zero visibility -- that means fog on the ground at j.f.k. .3 islip. up to the north you see away from this sea fog and you will see the visibility are better. poughkeepsie 10 miles. this is sense sea fog because of the winds out of the south. 45 monticello. 58 bridge port. light to calm wind here mostly out of the south and that continues to keep all this moisture in here. so, with a dense fog advisory until 10:00 across the area except up here for ulster, sullivan, orange county because of the southerly wind coming up. plenty of clouds, high of 70. sunshine tomorrow. we start off with a few clouds.
then a temperature of 63 saturday and 57 on sunday. much cooler as we get to the weekend. we warm back up to the 60s next week. >> very good. >> thank you. [ laughter ] let's go to heather and see how things are going with the commute. >> yes. you know, i did check out the airports, the airports are not reporting any major delays but it is 4:46. we will keep our eye on the airports throughout the morning. my advice is to get in touch with your career if you pick somebody up or catch a flight. let's talk about mass transit times. new jersey transit, long island railroad, path trains are doing fine. three trains are suspended between new lots and 148th. e between jamaica and briarwood for overnight track work. by 5:00 a.m. that should be out of there and the trains moving without major problems. we have speed reductions on the
45 miles per hour because of the fog northbound, southbound between exits 12 and the molly pitcher service area. you want to keep your speeds down. it's foggy in certain spots. harlem river bridge northbound, willets unto 125th street we have construction. that is subject to closure. at this point it's not causing major problems. alternate side of the street parking rules are in effect. lori, over to you. >> heather, thank you. another high school football player has died after collapsing during a game. this is file video of 17-year- old luke shim of kansas. tuesday night he collapsed after scoring a touchdown and an if a tray point -- an extra point. since july there have been 11 reported deaths in high school football in the u.s. a driver survives a close
call when a large piece of wood smatches through the car's windshield. it happened on a highway in springfield, massachusetts. the wood coming within inches of the 67-year-old driver's head. they think it fell off another vehicle then a tractor trailer ran over it sending it into the windshield. the attorney for 32-year- old benjamin golden said his client is extremely remorseful. he was allegedly caught on camera beating a driver in southern california friday after the driver ordered him out of the car he was drunk. the video has gone viral and the driver is suing him. authorities charge golden with assault and battery. he was fired from his executive job at taco bell. vladimir putin is stingy when it comes to keeping the top spot on forbes list of the most powerful people.

commute. how is it going? >> we will take a look at our mass transit chart. it is close to schedule. new jersey transit, long island railroad, metro north, no major problems to report. 3 trains suspended. e trains between jamaica and briarwood. harlem river drive northbound from the willets avenue bridge to 125th, construction. all lanes are subject to closure but i am not seeing major delays as you travel on the harlem river drive at this point. the ramp to the brooklyn bridge is closed. brooklyn bridge is closed inbound until 6:00 a.m. that is the overnight construction. we have alternate side of the street parking rules in effect today. ken, over to you. new figures show a huge drop in the number of americans without health care since the start of obama care.
numbers from a survey show the percentage of uninsured people fell. about 50 million americans lacked health insurance five years ago when the affordable care act was signed. as of june it was down to 28.5 million. dozens of schools, libraries and nonprofits could lose access to the internet when sprint severs the access. it will cut off the affordable broadband access relied on by hundreds of thousands of people. they are hoping a judge will rule to stop the changes before tomorrow. workers digging under washington square park uncovered a piece of new york city history. a burial vault that likely dates back to the 1800s. it has a wooden door with copper hinges and contains the remains of about a dozen people. it was uncovered by crews
excavating old water pipes. they are examining the vaults contents. >> identify if they were associated with a church which is most likely. we know there was a potter's field in the area as well. so, we will try to start identifying how -- who these people were. >> arc key local gifts say there is evidence the vault has been disturbed at least once before. tennis star serena williams can add crime fighting to her resume. >> referring to herself as a super hero in this facebook post and serena explained how she chased down a man who swiped her phone as she ate dinner at a chinese restaurant on tuesday. super serena easily caught up to the man who said he made a mistake. serena let him go and she returned to the restaurant. she received a standing ovation. >> the woman runs like for three hours at a time. you can't out run >> quick reflections.

this point are not reporting major delays but your best bet is to contact your carrier. subway status, service on or close new jersey transit, long island railroad, metro north on or close. construction harlem river drive from the willets avenue bridge to 125th street. all lanes are subject to closure but i am not seeing a lot of delays. but seeing anything through the fog is impossible. street cleaning rules are in effect. >> thank you. debris has been located. one body was found after a plane crashed in the waters off the coast of queens. it's unclear what caused the plane to go down. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live in breezy point with more for us. dray. >> reporter: good morning, lori and ken. you can see the nypd is maintaining a small presence on the beach. the dense fog is creating low visibility. the search has been suspended until first daylight.
before the search was suspended, dive team members recovered a body from the ocean. it's believed that body is the pilot, the only person on board the plane when it went down last night. the nypd special operation unit tweeted this picture showing the tail section of the single- engine plane last night. they were able to recover some of the damage including a wing, wheel and luggage in the water. they were among the items recovered about a mile and a half off the breezy point shoreline. around 7:50 last night, someone saw the plane crash into the ocean and call 911. the coast guard, nypd and fdny immediately launched a search effort. about an hour and a half after launching that effort, they located the plane and eventually would find the pilot's body around 11:00 last night. the airplane was registered in new hampshire and the last flight plan filed for the plane had it flying from new hampshire to philadelphia.
now, that plane took off from philadelphia last night around 7:30 and it's believed it was on its way back to new hampshire when it went down into the ocean. now, initially there was thought that, perhaps, there was a female on board the plane because there was female luggage found in the water as well. now we understand investigators eliminated that possibility. they are in the process of identifying the body found in the water last night. that includes sending officers to new hampshire to plaque a positive identification. we expect the search effort to resume later on this morning at first daylight because right now the fog is too dense and we understand the surf is too rough to have anyone in the live this morning, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> dray, thank you. two people are injured including a 9-year-old girl of a after police got -- after police got in a shoot out in new jersey. gunshots were exchanged just
after 7:00 last kala rama is live at the scene. good morning, kala. >> reporter: ken, good morning. the good news, the 9-year-old girl is recovering at home. she was grazed in the head by a bullet watching ghostbusters at home with her family. ten hours later this incident happened, the area is still roped off by police tape and a cruiser is still guarding the scene here. this is the scene around 7:30. police say an officer was on patrol when he spotted a man wanted in an investigation. he stops the 19-year-old suspect, feels a gun during the pat down and that's when the suspect takes off running firing shots at the officer, according to investigators. the officer fires back hitting the suspect in the leg. the suspect is now recovering at jersey shore medical center. during the gunfire is when the 9-year-old girl was injured. at this point, investigators are trying to the bullet came from.
the officer was not injured in all of this. live in asbury park, kala rama, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. this just in, new video of what is not so well come scene for car owners in brooklyn. possibly a car carrier hit a row of parked cars in hole many crest. the impact forced an s.u.v. on top of one of the vehicles. the truck that found the mess has not been found. tragic details on a moon shot through the lobby door of his home in brooklyn. hector diaz has died. police say he heard a noise, went downstairs early yesterday morning when he was shot in the building. no arrests have been made. investigators believe the
over the weekend was brought down by a bomb. britain is suspending all flights in and out of the sinai peninsula us a a precaution. there is a possibility that crash was caused by an explosive device on board the jet. 224 people were killed. isis claimed responsibility. investigators in egypt are looking at evidence that passengers in the back of the plane appear to have shrapnel in their bodies. >> terror groups were working extremely hard to develop explosives that can be smuggled on an airplane undetected. >> the u.s. officials have not seen forensic evidence from the crash investigation but they say intelligence suggests that somebody at the airport helped get a bomb on the a tip has lead to an arrest in the stabbing of a u.s. airman hailed as a hero for helping thwart a european attack.
that was on the paris bound train in august. james tran was arrested and charged with attempted homicide yesterday for allegedly stabbing stone several times outside a club last month in sacramento. stone's injuries were so severe police initially thought he would die. it happened during a drunken fight between two groups of people. the elder president george bush says that his son was badly served by aides during his eight years in office. the 91-year-old bush is breaking years of silence tearing into dick cheney and mr. rumsfeld. he said cheney built his own empire and went too far pushing for force around the world and rumsfeld an arrogant fellow that served the younger bush. bill evans with the accuweather forecast. >> let's take a look at our

classes are canceled at the college where four people were stabbed. they are recovering this morning. the suspect, a male student at uc merced was shot and killed by campus police after the attack. it started inside a classroom where the suspect stabbed two students. a construction worker ran to try to stop the attack. he was also stabbed. >> ended up going down on his back. he got stabbed. but he was able to kick the guy in the head. >> the suspect stapled a faculty member outside the classroom before being gunned down. they have not identified the attacker. all of the victims are expected to be okay. new this morning, police want your help in catching a man they are calling a hotel creeper. take a look at the person. this is the wanted poster for jose salazar.
from inside the viceroy hotel in midtown. it happened monday. bill evans joining us now with the accuweather forecast. >> well, first off, let's take a look at midtown. good visibility on the far left of the screen. you can see the lights are on at wollman rink. you see the hazy look down to one world trade. some fog is dense. humidity is high. 86%. a light wind and the pressure 30.31. the park is reporting a 2 1/2 mile visibility. teterboro a mile here. .3 white plains. .3 newark. this will cause delays at airports this morning when we get to 7:00. this is about 7:00 when the planes get going. >> great question.
way i believe it's about 7:00 when the planes get going. check with your air carr . it slows down everything. these numbers are way warm at 60 degrees. a calm wind in a lot of spots to a light wind. that is 3 to 5 miles per hour. that doesn't do a lot to move the fog around. so, this fog will permeate around the area until about 10:00. that's why we have a dense fog advisory until then. mostly sea fog from the south with the light southerly wind and really warm air over the cooler waters and the cool ground that we have. today you see at 11:00, clouds break up and we get sunshine through there to flight. we will have a real -- there tonight. friday at 8:00 we have a front moving through. that makes for cooler sunshine

ghostbusters when she was bullet. she is at home and recovering. [ inaudible ] he spotted a man wanted in an investigation. he stopped the 19-year-old suspect and during a pat down felt a gun. that's when the suspect took off running firing shots at the officer according to investigators. the officer fired back hitting the suspect in the leg. the suspect is recovering at jersey shore medical center. during the gunfire is when the -year-old watts injured. a -- was injured. a local pastor said none of this should have happened. >> what i heard, there was no reason to be shoot that way, that if it was danger it could have cost the life of a 9-year- old girl. >> reporter: ten hours later after all of this, you can see the block, the entire block is roped off by police. an officer is guarding the scene.
the officer involved was not injured. live in asbury park, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. the dense fog that bill has been talking about this morning lead investigators to suspend their search after a deadly plane crash off the coast of queens. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live in breezy point with more for us. >> good morning. you are right. these are very tough conditions to work in. that dense fog created low and poor visibility. because of that, the search has been suspended until later this morning. you can see behind me the nypd maintaining a very small presence on the beach. but before the search was suspended, dive teams recovered a body from the water, believed to be the pilot, the only person on board the plane when it went down last night. now, the nypd special operation unit tweeted this picture showing fixed wing single engine airplane. they were able to recover some of the damage that includes a
recovered in the ocean as well. those items recovered about a mile and a half off breezy point shoreline. around 7:50, a man standing on the beach saw the plane crash into the ocean and call 911. the coast guard, nypd and fdny immediately launched a search and rescue effort about an hour and a half after launching the effort they located the plane. around 11:00 last night they did recover the pilot's body from the water. the airplane is registered in new hampshire. the last flight plan filed had the plane flying from new hampshire to philadelphia. it left last night around 7:30 when the plane went down here into the ocean. as i have been saying all morning long, at some point in time there was a thought that there was a woman on board as well because some of the luggage found looked at if it might belong to a woman but
