anything. >> he stated he pledges his allegiance to islamic state. he follows alla and that's the reason he was called upon to do this. >> reporter: law enforcement sources tells abc news, archer who had a home just two blocks from the scene had traveled to the middle east twice from newark and kennedy, he was on no watch lists. the 32-year-old officer spent time on the coast guard before becoming a police officer. >> it'll be a tough road but he's a tough guy. i love him. >> reporter: some said they didn't even flinch when they heard the shots, many here know officer hartnett that at a time of tension with police, johnson says he is one of them. >> he walk and check on the businesses, check up on everybody. say hello to everybody. speak to everybody. even those who were on drugs. he would look after them. so people were actually upset.

he is a good guy he's still with us. >> reporter: a good guy and a lucky guy indead. it's going to be a long road to recovery but he will recover. as for the suspects, family members say they blame mental illness more than religious extremism for what he allegedly did last night. but investigators are looking into what he was doing in saudi arabia and egypt in 2011 and 2012. as of now he has not yet been charged. we're live in philadelphia tonight, josh einiger, channel 7. a new clue tonight in the search for a hit-and-run driver who killed a pedestrian. police releasing this picture. they're searching for a 2003 to 2005 black honda pilot. police say the driver struck 59- year-old steven lichner while he was crossing at the intersection of cedar lane and harrison avenue.

"el chapo" hold up in this hotel. his drug cartel lieutenants stashed in this modest house near by. inside an arsenal. sniper rifles, m16s, rocket propelled grenades. the shootout killed five cartel members. seven surviving. and then escorting him to a jet. his escape last spring a huge embarrassment for the mexican government, he had also escaped about 15 years ago.

early sunday and pretended to be her neighbor. once inside her apartment he slapped and choked the victim and then sexually assaulted her. he also stole money and her cell phone. an intense search tonight by new york police for a hit- and-run driver who killed police. the 29 kwraoerl -- 29-year-old man struck and killed last night. he was hit by a dark colored four door sedan. the victim's name not yet released and that driver just kept ongoing. another crash, this one in brooklyn. this time seven children hurt when their school bus crashed with a car then flipped over. it happened this afternoon. six minor injuries but one child was seriously hurt. the power ball jackpot growing to record numbers. tonight it's already shattered previous jackpots and now topping $800 million. good to reach $1 billion by tomorrow's drawings.

a man who traveled to washington, d.c. allegedly planning to kidnap one of president obama's dogs is under arrest tonight. scott stockard was arrested on wednesday. the secret service says a shotgun, rifle, ammunition a machete and billy club were found in his truck. stockard also claimed that he was jesus and wanted to run for president. >> good news tonight about a deadly health care that rocked the country a year and a half ago. tonight the u.s. department suspending their ebola screening. last week the world health organization recorded being the

in the bronx this week. they came in through the front door but did not get past the counter after climbing a metal gate. a worker had to fight it out with a broom stick. >> when the sun goes down that's when they come out. >> reporter: some say they've been breeding at this abandoned building. countless violations for garbage posted at the front door and a few blocks down, garbage can tops being held down by bricks. >> i saw into a home through the bars of the window. i've never seen that in my life. >> reporter: the racoons have company. >> it's scary because you can walk your dog and all of a sudden the racoons come out from any where. it's from the racoons to the skunks. >> huge, huge black skunk up the block. skunk, i'm walking and it stops

so i said no, let me run down the street. >> reporter: the city's 311 line received more than 1,500 racoon calls last year. that's more than 600 more calls about the problem than the previous year. as for getting this city to remove them. >> somebody already tried and the city said this is their homeland too, they were here before us. they've already tried that, no. >> reporter: the health department does not consider this an infestation rather a one time event. it's advising workers to intensively clean all the surfaces the racoons may have come into contact with. by the way this restaurant has an a grade. >> that's why the racoons went there. >> they want a good meal. >> don't mess with them. they get very vicious. >> they travel in packs, pretty scary. >> kungpou. and we go to record highs with soaking rain and then we finish with more wintery

so outside we go tonight. look at the george washington bridge. there might be a touch of drizzle here. i'm not worried about roadways in and around the new york city or the coast. if you're talking about the mountain bridge. if we start getting drizzle here then we could be talking about slippery conditions. the high today 45 degrees. beware of the black ice north and west. then that turns into a record high that could break a 140 year record: then we're falling to freezing quickly saturday night. here we are at stand hope jersey, not far from freezing. 41 cliffton and 42 in closter. monticello at 32 degrees. you can see once we get 45 or 50 miles from the north that's when we get concerned about icing. not a wash out. you need your umbrella for a while but for the most part you're carrying your umbrella.

york city but for the most part the clouds are moderate. more drizzle starting to come in from pennsylvania but nothing particularly heavy. there's the early stages of our sunday soaker coming in from the gulf of mexico. a lot of moisture with that. watch the futurecast here. you have your drizzle tomorrow morning and temperatures within a few degrees of freezing in sussex. and everyone into tomorrow evening you might have a touch of drizzle but the heavy rain the morning. this rain really wants to come in early. this should be in the wee hours of the morning to 10 or 11. we're going to really get heavy wind. if you have any plans to travel on sunday morning. if you can avoid that great, it's going to be a tough ride to church sunday morning then things are going to be getting a little better as we go

even a break of sun could bring a shower. we need record warmth in the afternoon. look at the projected lows down into the 20s. any residual dampness could mean some black ice for your afternoon. areas of fog when you wake up tomorrow. that drizzle mainly in the morning. just mostly cloudy in the afternoon hours. tomorrow night temperatures rise through the mid- and upper 40s but the heavier rain is after midnight into sunday mortgage -- morning you see it here. look at the low sunday night. 32degrees on monday morning. only 36 during the day. maybe black ice for the morning commute and it feels like 20s in the afternoon. we have a brief bump in temperature on tuesday. then our first threat of maybe some coating of snow around the area. that's going to go beyond wednesday. we're staying cool all week long and this weather pattern has flipped. we're going to pick it up from here. >> from 60 to 24 that's amazing. up next, talk about a close call.

the mother says her teenage son may have saved her life. he had been driving the suv the night before, moved the seat farther back than she keeps it and that saved her. exercise is not usually recommended for most cancer patients but new analysis of previous study shows exercise did help some patients if they started working out during treatment and continued it afterward. the studies involve a variety of cancer typing including breast cancer. remember we talked just a few hours about that knicks game. it could be a huge game. just checking to see if you remember. straight ahead. we'll get to the san antonio where it was close. so close that shot decided the whole game.
