we begin with the political corruption scandal engulfing city hall. mayor de blasio's campaign lawyer fired back calling accusations politically motivated. dray clark is live at city hall with the story. dray, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ken. mayor de blasio says he welcomes any investigation because he has done nothing wrong and he has nothing to hide. the allegations he is facing are serious. so serious that the mayor can't afford to keep quiet. he has to defend himself. mayor de blasio's campaign lawyer firing back at the corruption allegations in an eight page board of elections memo obtained by the daily news. it suggests the mayor and his team broke laws to help upstate democrats in a bid to take control of the new york senate. the lawyer says there is nothing novel about the
candidates to the state senate other than your attempt to selectively criminalize it. it says and the leak is a highly prejudicial and motivated act. the memo questions whether de blasio's deem broke campaign finance laws to support specific democrats and senate -- in senate races. the mayor spoke about the growing scandal friday declaring his hands are clean. >> we wanted to get everything out, every fact to be uncovered and, you know, i welcome this being done and done properly. >> reporter: if this turns into a criminal case it could open a pandora's box for politicians across the state. >> if he gets into trouble, then the door is open for almost every candidate and political party in the state. >> reporter: mayor de blasio has a 1:00 event in brooklyn
will be inundated with allegations. eyewitness news. >> dray, thank you. in brooklyn, firefighters are still putting out hot spots after this huge fire gutted three residential buildings. nine people recovered including seven firefighters. this morning several families are displaced. diana rocco is live in cypress hill. >> reporter: lori, good morning. we have a lot of fire department activity out here this morning. it has been a long night as they continue to put out hot spots. three of the buildings on the block have been destroyed, reduced to a pile of rubble. two others badly damaged. we just learned it was people inside the church that smelled smoke and called 911. more than 200 firefighters responded to the fast-moving fire that struck six alarms
the flames were so intense multiple buildings were collapsing. they believe it started in the 270 block of arlington and quickly spread to homes next door. for fire crews the challenge was to keep it from spreading to the entire block. in all 13 people have been left homeless. some injuries but everyone was able to get out. >> hard to watch but the family is okay. that's what is important. >> everybody is fine. my mother, everybody is fine. >> reporter: so, there is a church next to all the structures that burned. firefighters were able to save it but it did suffer some damage to one of their stained glass windows. in all nine people were injured including seven firefighters. live in the cypress hills section of brooklyn, diana rocco, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. new this morning a 74-year- old bronx man is dead after
neighbor during a fist fight over an elevator. police identified the victim as felix rodriguez. he was arguing with a man in their building in kingsbridge heights yesterday. the 74-year-old punched him but he thought back. rodriguez later died at the hospital. a 4-year-old boy is dead this morning after he was hit by a car in new jersey. it happened yesterday on north 7th street in paterson. police say the child's mother was trying to put her son inside her car when the child was hit. the driver did stay at the scene and so far no charges have been filed. a powerful punch sent a bronx man to the ground. now police want to find the person behind the surprise attack. surveillance cameras mound on his house at soundview recorded the assault saturday morning. apparently rock man and his brother had just arrived home when the suspect approached him, began talking to him and punched him in the face. >> he passed me and he came

investigators in ohio say the execution murder styles of eight family members were well planned. authorities revealed several marijuana growing operations were found at the crime scenes. it's unclear if the pot played a role in the murders. seven adults and a teenage boy were found shot in the homes.

campaigning for mayor and presidential delegates. we are hearing dispatch tapes from are the scene of a shoot out that injured three federal agents. united states marshals in kansas were attempting to bust a robbery suspect. when officers approached the motel room, someone inside started firing. they believe they knew who was pulling the trigger. >> suspect is orlando collins. he has fired several times. possible officers hit. >> during the exchange, a fire broke out inside the room. a body was later found but it's not clear whether that person is orlando collins. two deputy united states marshals and one fbi agent were injured expected to be okay. as the world awaits answers into prince's mysterious death, many wonder what will happen to his fortune.

the polls tomorrow. adding more drama to the campaign, there is word two republicans are teaming up to take down the g.o.p. front-runner, donald trump. kenneth moten joins us live with the latest from washington. good morning, kenneth. >> reporter: good morning, ken, this is a major strategic shift. reporter: kasich, cruz coordinating to take down trump. >> i have to get rid of these two guys, sorry, folks. >> reporter: donald trump campaigning in maryland, one of the five states he is expected to sweep in the northeast. john kasich and ted cruz are moving on to the macon test strategizing together. >> god bless the great state of indiana. >> reporter: the two campaigns sent out similar statements. cruz is focusing time and resources in indiana. kasich is moving to oregon and new mexico k. the ohio governor told "face the nation" his goal is to have an open convention

staff in teaneck, new jersey, to honor liz set parker, the mayor who died over the weekend. the 44-year-old was rushed to holy name medical center with respiratory issues. she died at the hospital. the deputy mayor has assumed all mayoral duties. liz set became the -- lizette has served on the town council since 2006. in new jersey, no word on what sparked a brushfire that threatened a fleet of school buses in bayonne. the fire at east 5th street and isabella spread quickly because of dry conditions. firefighters did get the blaze under control. they remained on the scene to monitor hot spots. no word what started the fire. bill has been telling us for days about fire conditions throughout the region.

the fire started in a convenience store long beach road about 4:30 this morning. blaze ripped through several apartments above the row of stores displacing several dozen people. we have a reporter heading to the scene and a live update ahead on eyewitness news. we also have didi tails on the massive fire that burned down several buildings in brooklyn and damaged several others, and someone inside a nearby church called 911 after smelling smoke. the church suffered minor damage on the outside. fire department says the six alarm fire might have started in a garage before quickly spreading. crews are working to put out hot spots. nine people including seven firefighters are recovering from minor injuries. 13 people have been displaced. mayor de blasio will no doubt face tough questions about a bombshell report over the weekend accusing the mayor of getting involved in criminal
