jersey transit, metro north close to schedule. holland tunnel reopened. earlier stall has been cleared away. tappan zee bridge cashless tolls in effect. you need e-zpass or you will get billed later after they take a picture of your tags. street cleaning rules are in effect. ken, over to you. all right, heather. now to the breaking news on long island. firefighters are working to get a handle on a massive fire. they are tearing through stores and apartments in oceanside. >> diana rocco just arrived on the scene. diana? >> reporter: ken and lori, good morning. a serious situation out here this morning. we are on long beach road here in oceanside where you can see firefighters are still working to get a handle on this fire. here is what we know right now. this started before 4:00 this morning in the convenience store and quickly spread through the apartment building.

standing on the street watching firefighters fight this fire. they are trying to get back into their homes. right now it does not look like that is a possibility. the fire has literally tore through multiple believes on the block. the fire department has been at this about two hours now. they are still working to get a handle on it. flames ripped through the building very quickly and spread to several of the stores next door. we are on the 3,000 block of long beach road here in oceanside where the fire department is still hard at work this morning. we have dozens of firefighters working on this as well as residents stand willing in the -- standing in the parking lot looking at what is happening to their homes. i was speaking to someone on my way here. what he told me, he saw someone standing behind the convenience store this morning and then they saw smoke and people running into the street. it's still investigation --

we will bring you more throughout the morning. live in oceanside, diana rocco, channel >> thank you. we are learning more about the massive fire in brooklyn that injured nine people there. that fire had the fire department putting out hot spots after the six alarm fire in cypress hills. three buildings destroyed. two others damaged. 13 people are homeless. the fire department saying the flames may have started in a garage. the cause is under investigation. the search continues for the suspect who tried to rape a woman in manhattan. the victim told officers a man followed her into the elevator of her building. once inside he pushed her against the wall and groped her. he tried to follow her into the apartment but ran off when another resident came to the door. mayor de blasio will be in brooklyn later today. he is certain to face questions about his campaign's alleged

democrats in 2014 in violence of state election laws. lawyers for the mayor's campaign fired back last night after a board of elections memo was leaked to the daily news. the mayor's lawyers accuse the board of trying to selectively criminalize common political practices. but community activist tony herbert is among those calling for the mayor to step aside. >> you have several different investigation going on, mr. mayor. we ask that you step down. you cannot honestly represent the city having these criminal investigations on your back. >> the mayor says he has done nothing wrong. he is offering full cooperation for federal prosecutors tracking the campaign fund- raising. more details in a live report at 6:30. unprecedented back room deal between ted cruz and john kasich. they are struck a bargain to deny donald trump the necessary

kasich will give cruise a clear path in indiana and cruise will stay out of his way in oregon and new mexico. trump denounced both men then labeled the deal as desperation spelled in all capital letters. it does not apply to tomorrow's five primaries. cruz aggressively opposed working with kasich as recently as late last week. hillary clinton is campaigning in delaware and pennsylvania. she dropped any mention of bernie sanders from her stump speech. she focused on the general election, donald trump and ted cruz. sanders will be in hartford trying to gain ground on clinton. flags will fly at half staff in teaneck, new jersey, to honor mayor lizette parker. she was rushed to holy name medical center yesterday morning with respiratory issues.

updating the breaking story from ocean county. 60 people have been displaced by this massive fire. it broke out around 4:30 this morning. the flames spread quickly spreading through a row of storms and apartments. stay with eyewitness news for updates on this breaking story. the metro station in brussels is back in business after 32 people were killed in a second isis bombings hours after the attack on the airport. the parliament is expected to release the report on the attacks on friday. it's expected to take until then for the city to finish all repair work on the metro system. police are trying to find a motive for the prom shooting that left two students wounded at a wisconsin high school. the prom suddenly turned into a

shot at a group of students leaving the school's gym. a police officer opened fire killing wagner. i graduated a year ago. new this morning, johnny manziel has been indicted in dallas on a misdemeanor assault charm. the embattled quarterback's case was reportedly heard by a grand jury last week. a formal announcement is expected today. manziel, a former heisman trophy winner is accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend hard enough to temporarily lose hearing in one ear. if convicted, he could face up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine. a florida man's quest for fame at sea came to an end. long distance runner set out from pompano beach saturday for bermuda inside his homemade

we will talk about the tappan zee. tappan zee the cashless tolls are in effect. you have to have e-zpass or they will snap a picture of your license plate and bill you later. at this point, traffic is doing fine. everything is moving across without major issues. this is an issue on the southbound side of route 9, the ramp to the new york state thruway northbound is closed because of the tappan zee project. street cleaning rules are in effect for today. ken, over to you. >> all right, thank you so much. we update the breaking news that we have in nassau county, the massive fire in oceanside. >> that's right. the john del giorno is in newscopter 7 with the latest. john? >> reporter: the latest we are getting from the fire department, the fire is being brought under control. you can see this was a massive blaze that started earlier this morning. this was reported shortly before 4:30 this morning. we are on long beach road.

you can see the heavy damage to this one building. up to five buildings were involved. these are two and three story buildings along long beach road. stores on the first floor and apartments on the second and in some cases on the third floor as well. they believe that's where the fire started in this building where the convenience store is. that's where the heaviest damage is. in fact, in the rear, there is a complete collapse down to the ground. we have heard of no injuries. that is the good news. we are told that 60 people have been left homeless as a result of this fire. they are being tended to by the local authorities. again, the fire is being brought under control. if you are traveling through this area, long beach road is shut down. there is a lot of fire department activity. the closure point is six blocks south of the busy split at lincoln avenue. john del giorno, channel 7 eyewitness news. happening today, there are

breaking news on long island. incredible video of flames devouring businesses in oceanside. >> diana rocco, right to you. >> morning. a fluid situation out here. this fire is not out and i just was able to speak to the fire department who tell me that there are about 60 people who are homeless this morning. many are wrapped in blankets and standing in the parking lot here. we are in the 3,000 block of long beach road in oceanside. they are trying to put out areas of fire. it is still smoking. take a look at the video taken this morning. when they arrived there was heavy fire from the back of the second floor. they went to work but had to pull out of the building due to a collapse in the back part. 40 minutes into the fire it went to a second alarm. it has taken out most of the block damaging several stores and apartments above them. we did speak to the owner of the apartment building where

he got the call about 4:30 this morning that his building was on fire. >> my building is completely gone it looks like. >> everybody is safe. that is a good sign. >> that's the important thing. the fire department is still trying to douse the flames here. clearly taken out most of the block. the good news this morning, no one was injured. all of the residents were able to get out. none of them were harmed. not even a firefighter, even with the collapse and serious situation they had when they first arrived earlier this morning. this is all still under investigation but a difficult morning for the dozens of people who are left homeless. live in oceanside, diana rocco, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. from the ground to the sky we continue our coverage of the destruction left behind with john del giorno and news copter

>> reporter: from the air you can see what diana was talking about. the second building from the left looks to be where the fire started. that building suffered the heaviest damage. you can see all five of those buildings with commercial businesses, stores on the first floor and apartments on the second and third floor all five were damaged. this one suffered a complete collapse in the rear. it's miraculous nobody was injured. diana talked about the residents. 60 residents of these apartment buildings are homeless. you can see them across the street with the oceanside fire department. they are wrapped in blankets waiting for further assistance from the local authorities. this will be a problem in the area. the roads are clogged with fire department vehicles. i wouldn't expect this to be reopened soon. they are still putting water on

tough questions about allegations of improper fund- raising. eyewitness news reporter dray clark has the latest drama from city hall. dray? >> reporter: good morning. mayor de blasio welcomes any investigation because he has done nothing wrong and nothing to hide. the ails are so serious that the mayor can't afford to keep quiet. he has to defend himself. mayor de blasio's campaign lawyer firing back at the corruption allegations in an eight page board of elections memo obtained by the daily news. it suggests the mayor and his team broke laws to help upstate democrats in a failed bid to take control of the new york senate. the lawyer says there is nothing novel about the campaign to elect democratic candidates to the state senate other than your attempt to selectively criminalize it.

certainly he will be inundated with questions about this most recent round of ails. dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> we are expecting to hear testimony from the surviving partner of an nypd officer that died in a fire in coney island. marcell dockery was 16 years old when prosecutors say he lit a mattress on fire in the hallway of a building. rosa rodriguez was injured. dockery turned down a plea deal to spend 22 years behind bars. if convicted, he faces up to life in prison. loretta lynch announcing a new policy to help. lynch is calling on states to make it easier to increase accessibility to state identification for ex-inmates. and programs to make inmates

welcome back. you a thoshtsz are looking into whether a drug operation lead to a family massacre in southern ohio. they are searching for the person that shot seven adults and a teenage boy to death in their home south of columbus. investigators believe the killings were preplanned. several marijuana growing operations were found at the crime scenes but it's not clear if the marijuana had a role in the murders. >> they thought it through, executed it, well planned out and thought out. >> autopies on the bodies are expected to be completed today. we are learning more about a shooting investigation in westchester county. police say the victim is a deli worker and he is expected to survive. 25-year-old clerk was outside the deli when he was shot in the chest yesterday.

issues. cross bronx westbound near the sheraton expressway an accident. traffic is starting to back up now as you get from white plains into the area of the sheraton expressway. 10 minutes inbound george washington bridge. 30 at the lincoln and the holland tunnels as you come inbound. here is where we have a problem. 78 going east near exit 26, rattlesnake road, ongoing accident investigation. you can see traffic is just almost back to route 31 here. what you can do, hop on 22 and take route 22 as your alternate to 78. then we have these closures through oceanside because of the ongoing fire department activity. we will go up to john del giorno in newscopter 7 to give us an update on the breaking news in nassau county. john? >> reporter: you can see a lot of fire department activity at the scene.

>> diana rocco is live in oceanside. >> ken and lori, we learned that the red cross was able to come in and put the displaced people on a bus after they were standing outside for hours this morning literally watching the building burn. you can see the fire department is hard at work dousing the hot spots. take a look at how bad the fire was. we are on the 3,000 block of long beach road in oceanside. there are areas of fire burning this morning. the fire department says it started around 4:00. when they arrived heavy fire second floor. they went to work but had to building collapse. 40 minutes into the fire it went to a second alarm taking out several blocks. let's take you to news chopper 7 overhead. you can see how difficult of a fire this was to fight. it was extensive. it covered the whole block taking out for storefront and an entire apartment building. the by our count this morning

from the fire department, dozens are homeless. they are working with the red crosses to find another place for them to go. but it's been three hours. the fire department is still giving us all they got. that is the very latest from oceanside this morning, diana rocco, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. the fire department is still putting out hot spots after a massive fire in brooklyn. the six alarm fire is believed to have started in a garage and quickly spread to five other buildings. three were destroyed. nine people suffered minor injuries in the flames. the cause is still under investigation. mayor de blasio will be in brooklyn later today. he is certain to face questions about the campaign's role in financing democrats in 2014 in violation of state election laws. lawyers for the mayor's campaign fired back last night after the board of elections memo was leaked to the daily news.
