go on at a newport news high school even after someone made a bomb threat. denbigh high school officials say the threat is not credible. as a precaution though, they are increasing security for today, and police plan to have more patrols at the school. rico bush is live outside denbigh high this morning. rico, you spoke with parents - how are they taking the threat? don, katie, one parent says she's not sending her son to school today despite there being no credible threat. the mother saying she'd rather keep her child at home than have something happen at school. here's what we know. spokewoman michelle price said school officials learned of the threat last week. police and resource officers plan to sweep the school this morning to look for evidence related to the threat. price said the school did security checks on friday, like making sure doors and locks were working properly, and found

price told us an automated message went out to parents about the bomb threat yesterday. she also said a lot of rumors on the incident were circulating among students on social media. school officials believe the children are, which is why classes will start on time today. however, there will be an increased police presence at the school throughout the day. price would not comment on how the threat toward the school was initially made. she says that's part of their investigation. live in newport news, rico bush, 10 on your side. today activist and cattle rancher, cliven bundy is expected to appear in court. he faces charges for a confrontation with federal authorities in 20-14. he's refused to pay grazing rights for more than two decades. bundy said the government was plotting to take his nevada ranch. some call him a hero for the confrontation. bundy is also the father

occupied a national wildlife refuge in oregon for more than a month. an ohio restaurant is back open for business after a violent machete several people hurt. the restaurant's owner greeted diners with hugs yesterday. he says he doesn't want his business to be a place for mourning. police say a man named mohamed barry walked into the restaurant and started attacking patrons, thursday. some people threw chairs at him to fight back. he eventually ran out of the restaurant. officers chased after him and shot and killed him when they say he lunged at them with the machete. back here in hampton roads, virginia beach police want your help to find a robber. take a close look at the man in these surveillance photos. investigators say he robbed at citgo on diamond springs road last tuesday with a shotgun. police say he demanded money from the clerk, and then ran off toward the driftwood apartments. if you recognize this man or have any other information about the robbery that could help police,

back now with a medicine mix-up, and one family's warning to others. a hampton family is upset after a pharmacy reportedly put her son's name on her medication. amanda mccoy says both she and her five-year-old son were sick at the same time. both of their prescriptions went to the rite aid on east pembroke avenue. the boy's doctor prescribed him eyedrops, but someone put his name on a bottle of "prednisone", which is a steroid used to treat inflamatory diseases. the pills were supposed to be for his mother. mccoy gave her son two pills before realizing the mistake. her son is okay, but she contacted 10 on your side to warn other parents. amanda mccoy - mom "we panicked, we were like 'oh my god' we just gave our kid the wrong medicine because it had

and it wasn't even prescribed to him." "i wanted to warn other parents that it they're just wrongly labeled and stuff they could have put a whole different prescription that wasn't even belonging to your family and put your label on it." "you're supposed to trust these people with everything because they handle your medications." 10 on your side reached out to rite aid for comment. a spokesperson said the matter is being investigated, and that they will likely retrain the staff. new this morning, a mother in california thinks someone is using a drone to spy on her children. she's so worried about it, she didn't want to show her face on camera. :14 - 22 "how would you feel if you're in the the person it's the drone." the concerned mother says its happened twice since december. she's the first time a drone hovered right near her children's bedroom window.

whoever is doing this. 1:33 - 1:37 "umm, just, you don't need to be watching me and my kids." the mother filed a police report, but officers said there wasn't much they could do. back in september a bill in california would have banned drones from flying lower than 350 feet over private property, but the governor vetoed it. now to controversy at an indiana middle school. a basketball coach is in trouble for allegedly making racist comments. coach vicki rogers has been with the elkhart school system for 30 years and coaches the girl's basketball team. officials say about a month ago, she used racial stereotypes when telling players to be on their best behavior. a local n-double-a-c-p chapter is aware, and not happy about what she's accused of saying. :28 - :36 ron davis/elkhart county naacp "talk about ghetto or dont act like black kids, that's very inappropriate " school officials say this

against the coach, and that's why they decided to suspend and not fire her. the coach also took a sensitivity training class. it's unclear if she will return to the school. a battle over religion and breaks at work is brewing in wisconsin. now a group of muslim employees say they could file a complaint with the u-s equal employment opportunity commission. a muslim advocacy group held a news conference yesterday about the matter. they say last month seven muslim employees were fired from the "ariens" company for taking unscheduled breaks. this came after the company started enforcing a new break policy that kept the workers from praying. :31 - :57, butted in pkg dan ariens, ceo "we have 30 employees who are muslim who are making our break time work for their pray time and there are some that have decided that it's their decision that it doesn't work for them and i respect that decision." jaylani hussein, executive director, cair "these breaks that they were taking were very similar to the type of leave one person at a

home burglary thief. that's because officers say he left his cellphone at the scene. after coming home from work, the victim says he came face-to-face with the burglar, holding a gun! the homeowner ran to his bedroom, locked the door and called 911. when it was safe to come out, he saw the thief's phone charging on the kitchen counter! no super (s/carlos / home invasion victim:42-:48) "even though i got away and got into the room, but for those few seconds, my life flashed looking into the eyes of the devil," police say the crook also left behind a soda bottle and took hot-dogs from the victim's fridge to keep his pet pitbull from attacking. officers say the phone was full of selfies, so it won't be long before they track him down. still ahead this morning - bomb threat. rico bush has more details about the threat

new this morning we're working to learn more about an accident that closed 1-64 eastbound in portsmouth overnight. take a look at the scene from our wavy traffic jam cams. vdot closed all lanes and put a detour in place. the scene is clear, but we are working to find out if anyone was hurt and how many cars were involved. we'll let you know as soon as we hear from police. this morning, school leaders are beefing up security at denbigh high school. officials say they received a bomb threat for today. newport news police tell 10 on your side they are taking the threat very seriously and plan to have more officers patrolling the school. rico bush is live there now with the latest on the threat. rico - what can you tell us? don, katie, police say someone made the bomb threat toward the school last week, but they believe it is

this morning to sweep the school to make sure everything is okay. according to newport news schools, an automated message went out to parents yesterday on what happened. spokeswoman michelle price told 10 on your side a lot rumors were circulating among students, mostly through social media, about the bomb threat. price would not comment on the how the threat was initially made, because she says that's part of their investigation. last week, the school did security checks, like making sure doors and locks were working properly, so they could focus on the main areas today. denbigh high school will open at its regular time this morning, but one parent says she's still not sending her son to class. i'll explain her reason why at 5:00 a-m. live in newport news, rico bush, 10 on your side. today a local mother is scheduled to be in court for driving with her

64 because of an expired registration. a search warrant revealed a trooper found the remains in a black trash bag in her trunk. she's charged with concealing the body of her son, quinton davis. today a grand jury will decide if there's enough evidence to move forward in a local murder trial. police charged edward brooks with murder after a fight broke out at the members barber salon on virginia beach boulevard. wittnesses told us brooks and derell stephens worked side by side when they got into a fist fight. stephens went to the hospital with several stab wounds. he later died. brooks is in jail without bond. this morning we're working to learn how a say the three-year-old boy's family found him unconscious in a backyard fish pond. it happened saturday off bay breeze cove in the broad bay neighborhood. paramedics took the boy to the hospital and say he was in a serious

a presidential candidate will set up shop in hampton roads. hillary clinton's campaign told us they'll open an office in norfolk. it will be on west 21st street. local supporters will gather to make calls and host organization meetings before the state's march first primary. local leaders will meet wednesday discuss clinton's plans on the economy and veteran's care. the campaign opened other offices in alexandria and richmond last week. today congressman bobby scott will host a student debt and college affordability roundtable. he'll meet with students and school leaders at norfolk state university this morning. congressman scott will discuss the chanllenges students face when paying for college, what schools are doing to combat the debt crisis, and how congress is working to make higher education

the meeting is from 10:00 to 11:30 in the nursing and general education building. tonight a local school board could vote to shorten the school year. instead of an 183-day calendar, virginia beach public schools is considering 180 or 181-day option. board members say it would mean an earlier start and end date, plus a longer winter holiday, and more efficient staff development days. all options are on the table for now. the school board meets tonight, we'll let you know what happens after the meeting. today the mayor of hampton will host a book club for military children. mayor george wallace will be at langley's child development center this morning from nine to 11:30. his program is designed to improve reading skills of local hampton and newport news children from pre- school to first grade. mayor wallace has hosted his monthly book club since 2008 for more than four thousand preschool through first grade students. today the coast guard plans to hold a hearing on a cargo ship that sank in the caribbean.
