mo'ne davis takes the mound. she and the taney team will hit the baseball diamond to continue their quest for a little league world series title. >> everyone's watching the forecast. is mother nature going to throw the players a curve tonight in williamsport? showers could be on the way. here at home, quite a different story. we're off to another cool start for august on this wednesday morning. we may see showers tomorrow, though. welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm chris cato. >> i'm tracy davidson. let's find out about the weather for today. with meteorologist tedd florendo in the first alert weather center. tedd? >> it's been a great august so far. we'll continue that again for the day today. more sunshine, in store for all of us. temperatures although warm, not going to be hot. nice. outside right now, mainly cloudy skies. the skies beginning to clear this morning. right now, the neighborhoods are rather mild. upper 60s for the lehigh valley. quakertown 68, 65 for atlantic city. let's check out our forecast for philadelphia. given an hour-by-hour look as we click on here.

temperatures will rise up to about the mid-80s for the day today. mostly sunny, expected down the shore. your forecast for today, 58 degrees, sun and clouds, more humid today. winds staying light and from the southeast. we're tracking more rain and also the possibility of rain, also for the little league world series. we'll get to that later on. first, we get a check of our wednesday morning traffic with jillian mele. good morning. >> good morning to you, tedd, to you at home as well. still not reporting any major accidents out there. this is the 42 freeway. looking good in both directions. right at creek road, that's the northbound side. bridges are clear right now, no problems in hammonton. 322 near 54, all lanes blocked because of the road work until about 6:00 this morning. stick to jackson road if you need to get around it. 76 in quiet in both directions near 202. that's the eastbound side. 76 is clear. 202 is clear this morning. if you're heading out on 95, especially southbound from

cottman to girard, speeds average the entire length in the mid-50s. we still have that construction that's in the process of wrapping up in both directions near the airport. right now it is still out there. chris? all right. our nbc 10 countdown clock ticking down to game time for the taney dragons and the little league world series. we're just over 14 hours away from the first pitch ofç the dragons biggest game yet. and throwing that first pitch, the star of the tournament, the "sports illustrated" cover girl, mo'ne davis. here she is signing autographs yesterday and taking batting practice. mo'ne threw that shutout victory in taney's opening win at williamsport. let's go to xfinity live where katy zachry, one of the many dragons fans is in south philadelphia. your hosting a big party for the game tonight, right. >> reporter: oh, yeah, all me. i sent out the invites yesterday. i did want to ask, so you and tracy, i don't know what you

were doing at 13 years old but i wasn't doing what mo'ne davis is doing. she's 13 years old and she's really become an international sensation over the last two weeks. it doesn't get much better than being on the cover of "sports illustrated." and that's exactly what we're dealing with. take a look. mo'ne davis is on the cover of the newest issue. she's the first little leaguer ever to do so. there is so much attention thrown at her in just the last few weeks. of course with that comes pressure. the team they play tonight is undefeated as well. we caught up with one of davis's teachers at spring side chestnut hill academy in philadelphia where she attends school. ashley vandergriff taught her math and says she has a quiet confidence about her. the way we see her on the field is the way she is in the classroom. >> she's dedicated on the mound. >> the world melts away. she has one goal. that's to strike out boys. you know? and in math class, she comes in, she's ready to work. she's persistent, dedicated.

from las vegas. he'll share that with us at 5:30. new from overnight, police arrested two men, they say carjacked a cab driver in north philadelphia. the cabbie wasn't hurt. officers recovered the stolen cab along percy stret along with two guns used in the carjacking. also new from overnight, a car crashed into the fence of a home in philadelphia's northwood section. nbc 10 at the corner of caster and adams. the car ended up very close to a house. no one was hurt. new this morning from our delaware bureau, the search is on for a peeping tom. police released a composite sketch of the suspect. this obviously isn't that video. we can tell you about the peeping tom. a witness reported seeing the man lurking near his neighbor's home a neighborhood in wilmington. a woman in that neighborhood says she's seen a man peeping in her windowsç in the past. president obama is expected

to make a statement today on the death of an american journalist beheaded on camera by isis militants in syria. here it james foley in a video before he was killed. he was a free lance photo journalist for the global post news agency based in the u.s. foley was kidnapped in syria almost two years ago. here's reaction from one of his former neighbors in rochester, new hampshire. >> it is horrible, it's uncalled for. you know, it's something that he is just an innocent person here. and it just makes you wonder what this world is really, really like. and his mother posted a very moving tribute on facebook, saying that he died doing what he loved. that was trying to expose what's going on there in syria. isis says it will kill another american journalist if president obama doesn't stop air strikes in iraq. happening today, a memorial ceremony to mark the tenth anniversary of a philadelphia fire that claimed the lives of captain john taylor and ray

rubio. taylor was 53, rubio 42. the fire took place ten years ago today at a home on belgrade street in port richmond. taylor and rubio got trapped in the basement where gases from lighting equipment for marijuana plants ignited. the homeowner was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. the memorial ceremony will be held at the site on belgrade street tonight at 6:30. seven minutes after 5:00 now. this is from our jersey shore bureau. the casino crisis appears to be affecting atlantic city's real estate market. no surprise there. we found for sale signs sprouting up in ac's venice park neighborhood. they said their home value together with prices will fall with the casino's closing. alma johnson tell us it will be a terrible seller's market but could be a great buyer's market right now. >> what about the young people who have, you know, managed to buy homes and have mortgages,

have the same flood insurance, the same this, the same that that i have. >> atlantic city sales are up. single family home sales have surpassed last year, 2013, already and it's a pretty good number. it's in the hundreds. >> he went on to say that condo sales in 2014 have topped the number sold during all of last year. six philadelphia youth groups have received some money from a swim club discrimination settlement. a justice department investigation found that the valley club in huntington valley was hostile to minority children during visits arranged by their day care back in 2009. the valley club filed for bankruptcy and closed following the lawsuit. the youth groups will share only $65,000 of the $1.1 million settlement. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist tedd florendo. >> should be another nice day today. enjoy it, because tomorrow we'll see changes in our weather pattern. you may need the umbrella by

overnight road work, hammonton, 322 out near route 354, all lanes blocked until 6:00 this morning. speeds are looking great on the pennsylvania majors, 55 on the blue route, 76 and 62 is what we're seeing on the pennsylvania turnpike. heading out to chester county, route 100 quiet near 113. no accidents to report at all. if you're taking mass trins it, including septa region rail lines, everything is on or close to schedule. u.s. attorney general eric holder heads to ferguson. he'll meet with the fbi and law enforcement officials there. in just minutes, we'll have a live report from ferguson, where despite a calmer night, dozens have been arrested. daring rescue. strangers spring into action after an suv plunged into cobbs creek. plus, we continue to root on our hometown taney heroes. . >> chase utley. congratulations on getting to

protesters filled the streets of ferguson again overnight. there were some clashes with police but overall, it was much more peaceful than it has been on past nights. meantime, attorney general eric holder will be in ferguson later

today. >> we will be all right. >> reporter: there was a much needed shift on the streets of ferguson overnight. >> hands up. >> don't shoot. >> hands up. >> don't shoot. >> reporter: protesters still marched. there were a few tense moments and dozens of arrests but for the first time in more than a week there was no tear gas or chaos. >> tonight, the elders in this community, volunteers, activists, and the clergy came out in large numbers. they walked, they talked with people. they urged order, calm and peace. >> reporter: officers in riot gear did line the streets but for the most part, this community policed itself. >> this has been a beautiful night. give yourself a round of applause. i can't hear you. >> reporter: attorney general eric holder plans to speak with community leaders, federal agents and prosecutors when he visits ferguson later this morning. he's promised the full resources

of his office during a, quote, fair and independent civil rights investigation here. the local criminal investigation is moving forward as well. a st. louis grand jury will begin to hear evidence in the case today. the prosecutor's office confirmed the officer involved in the shooting, darren wilson, has been interviewed by investigate ares and will have the chance, if he chooses, to testify before the grand jury at some point during the process. >> where do we need it? >> now. >>. >> reporter: a process this community and much of the country, is watching very closely right now. we've learned that reverend al sharpton will deliver the eulogç at michael brown's funeral. his family announced that will be held on monday here. that is the latest, live in ferguson, jay gray, nbc 10 news. meantime, new jersey governor chris christie says it's too soon to draw conclusions about the deadly shooting of michael brown by police in ferguson. he's criticizing other

politicians who have weighed in. christie is a former prosecutor. he said he always hated it when politicians weighed in on his cases. stay with nbc 10 for continuing coverage of the unrest in ferguson. we're posting updates as they come in on on to the mideast crisis now where the latest cease-fire is over. israel and hamas once again exchanging aerial attacks. palestinian militants started firing rockets at israel just hours before the latest truce was about to expire. israel retaliated with air strikes on gaza with officials there saying a 2-year-old girl was among three people killed. the fighting resumed after peace talks in egypt broke down yesterday. defense attorneys in the colorado theater shooting case say the university of colorado may have withheld records to show the school didn't act on information about james holmes when he was a student there. in court filings, holmes' attorneys brought up questions about what the university knew about holmes' mental problems

and whether school officials could have done more to prevent the deadly attack. he dropped out of a doctoral program just before the assault in a movie theater in aurora, colorado. this car skidded into cobbs creek. after police removed it from the water, this is the chevy blazer. police say the drive her a medical emergency, several other drivers saw it crash into cobbs creek, they rushed to help, broke the window, cut off the seat belt, pulled the driver up the ravine and began cpr. >> if these people hadn't seen this cargo in, we probably wouldn't have seen this car. >> do you believe you were men to be here. >> definitely. god put me here for a reason. >> the 60-year-old was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but she quickly stabilized. let's take you to breaking

news. we had a taxi driver carjacked earlier. we're hearing that a limo drivers in grays ferry has been robbed. let's go to nbc 10's monique braxton. what happened there? >> reporter: chris, just over my shoulder you can see the detectives have arrived here on the scene. she showed up about 5:00. they're dusting the vehicle. it is a limo driver. we're not sure if he was flagged down or called to the 2700 block of titan. according to police, the limo driver was robbed at gunpoint, $250 was taken from him. he does not appear to be injured but he is seated in the back of the police car that is just behind the limo. we're working to get more information for you. as soon as we have that, we'll be back live. for now, live in grays ferry, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. about 20 minutes after 5:00 now. let's take a look at the roads. >> especially in the lehigh

valley. nbc 10 first alert traffic report jillian mele has that. >> good morning. you can call me whatever you want. either way i'll tell you what's happening. this is a live look at 78 near 22. 78 is clear, 22 is clear, 309 is lehigh valley. keep in mind, we still have construction on the northeast extension. we have the long-term project that's been going on especially near lansdale and quaker tonight. the good news is on the northeast extension, no accidents with be , no disabled vehicles. p.a. turnpike, most of the overnight construction has cleared. checking drive times right now, you can see the majors are looking good. 95 southbound from wood haven to the vine. it will take you 13 minutes right now. 14 minutes on 76 westbound from the vine to the blue route. if you're traveling the blue route northbound, that will take you 18 minutes. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist tedd florendo. >> no need for the jacket this

morning. it's mild outside for our wednesday. you can leave the umbrellas at home for the day today, too. tomorrow, you'll need them. the warmth continues for the day today. we're also tracking the threat of thunderstorms and showers, not today. that will be for tomorrow unless you're headed up to williamsport. you will need the umbrella. by the weekend, the temperatures drop again, how does the upper 70s sound? a lot of our neighborhoods will see that. can you believe that, for august? wow. 66 for allentown. pottstown at 69. 72 for philadelphia. bensalem 71, 66 for millville at this hour. humidity up today, although it won't be oppressive like we normally see in august. you'll feel it, slightly more humid for our afternoon. these numbers obviously going to drop even more as the day moves on. now, as we take a look outside, we are seeing no echo on the radar. plenty of echos coming back.

we have rain coming in from the western part of the state here, already into erie. this will head towards wilmington. they will get rainfall this afternoon and even this evening, unfortunately, for the game. we see an increased chance of rainfall here. between 2:00 and 4:00 is when the bulk of it could come in. by the evening, by game time, maybe some scattered showers. we're just looking at some clouds for the day today but still looking partly sunny and then tomorrow, we do have more rain in store for all of us for tomorrow. even some isolated thunderstorms, too. here's the forecast, 70 by 8:00 a.m., by noon, 81. 84 by 3:00 p.m. we think the high will be 84 degrees, a mix of sun and clouds. wednesday, the regional forecast, maybe a chance of showers in the poconos and lehigh valley. 77 in the poconos. lehigh valley, 83 degrees all
