to leave the music festival after dangerous weather moves across delaware. well tell you what's planned for today. this morning we're tracking more showers, find out what you can expect in your neighborhood and what it means for your father's day plans coming up. and block party shooting. seven people are injured including a toddler after someone opened fire during a neighborhood event. good morning. welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm ted greenberg. thank you very much for being with us. it's 7:00 a.m. this sunday morning. happy father's day to the dads out there. let's get to first alert meteorologist brittney shipp in the weathers center. a lot of folks have father's day plans today, but if it's early they'll need an umbrella right? >> you'll want to keep an umbrella handy with you as we head into the next couple of hours, after that you won't need it. hot and humid conditions. you won't be wanting to lug that around. you have to stay hydrated today.

low-hanging clouds for us. a few light showers moving through the area. here's a closer look. you can see bill is moving out of here. most of the remnants are gone with the exception of a few showers moving into parts of cape may county. look atlantic city. seeing moderate to heavy rainfall now. we're also tracking a bit more rain moving into parts of delaware and into salem and cumberland county. if we fly you over to philadelphia, i'll show you where the rainfall is. just to the south of spring field, upper derby and parts of south philly. we have some more shower activity on the way. you need a hood jacket but later on you won't need it. temperatures ranging between 87 and 90 degrees after we get rid of the early rain. hot and humid conditions. feels-like temperature in the 90s. i'll let you know how long the

warmer temperatures will stick around. from our delaware bureau the firefly music festival in dover is expected to go on as planned today after severe weather forced organizers to clear the grounds last night. a fewer sent us this video which shows clouds streaming towards the exits. organizers urged people to take down any tents or cans at camp sites and to take shelter in vehicles. but, again, today's shows are expected to go on as scheduled. look at this car fire from overnight. this was on the roosevelt expressway near fox street in the east falls section of the neighborhood. the entire car was engulfed in flames around 3:30 this morning. shortly after we arrived firefighters were able to put the flames out. luckily no one was hurt. still no word on what sparked that fire. a man is dead after police

say he was shot by a security guard at a philadelphia bar. they say a fight broke out at old madrid at 5th and fisher in olney around 2:00 this morning. authorities say when the security guard escorted a 27-year-old man out of the bar, he attacked the guard. the guard shot the man. the guard suffered a minor cut. police are investigating. and a deadly shooting at a different bar in north philadelphia. investigators say a fight broke out between a man and a woman at a bar at 29th and chalmers. that's when the bar's owners got involved and shot the man in the chest. the victim was taken to the hospital and later died. happening now police are searching for the person who opened fire on a block party in west philadelphia injuring seven people including three children. jesse gary is live outside penn presbyterian hospital where one of the victims was just discharged. >> reporter: he didn't have

anything to say. as a matter of fact he said he didn't want to talk at all about what happened last night. this unfolded in front of our cameras about a half hour ago. relatives identified the man as 25-year-old tyrone jones. he's one of four adults treated overnight at penn presbyterian hospital for wounds from a shotgun blast. someone opened fire around 11:30 last night as family celebrated a relative's birthday. we talked to jones' stepmother a few minutes ago. >> the only thing i can say is jealousy. my kids father -- he has no enemies. we have no enemies. you understand what i'm saying? i don't know. >> reporter: somebody must clearly think you're enemies to show up and open fire. >> around kids and everything. >> reporter: but you don't know who it could be? >> i seen the face. i don't know who it is. >> reporter: in addition to the

adults that were injured there were two teens and one 18-month-old baby that were also wounded by this shotgun blast. they're all over at children's hospital in philadelphia listed in stable condition. i called southwest detectives and asked if they made progress in finding the shooter or motive behind this they haven't gotten anything. people there last night all have a strange case of amnesia according to police. so they're still working the case but not having much success. live outside penn presbyterian jesse gary nbc 10 news. there was also a shoot being a dozen blocks away last night. but there's no word yet if the shootings are possibly related. this was the scene at 37th and mount vernon in mantua. here a man was shot around 9:40 night. he died a short time later. no arrests in this shooting either. police in detroit are looking into a block party shooting similar to the one here in philadelphia. one person is dead, nine others hurt, and a gunman still on the

loose after police say the shooter opened fire. investigators say no children were shot through the grace of god, quoting there. authorities think the victim who was killed had been targeted by the shooter. happening today, church services will resume this morning at the south carolina church were nine people were killed during this week's shooting rampage. last night hundreds of people marched through the streets to emmanuel ame church where authorities say dylann roof opened fire on the church. this morning the fbi is investigating a website that was found registered under roof's name, it features a manifesto-type posting where he lashes out at asians, african americans and goos. there's also photos of roof

holding a gun, burning an american flag and standing in front of a confederate history library. the church's pastor and state senator, clementa pinckney will be laid to rest this week. public viewings are set for wednesday and thursday. funeral services are scheduled for friday. the philadelphia church with ties to emanuel ame will also reopen today for sunday services. black bunting hangs inside mother bethel ame church in society hill in remembrance of the nine victims. church leaders have told us they are making sure all worshipers will be safe today. >> we know we're in a neighborhood where anybody can walk through the doors, so we have always taken it serious. i'm certain we'll pay more attention to it right now. at the end of the day we don't want to let fear drive us. >> some churches in our area are planning fund-raisers for emmanuel ame. for a full list, visit nbc10.com. this morning on "meet the press," chuck todd sit down with

up next, investigators we have an update on the breaking news we told but yesterday morning on nbc 10 news today. police say it could take days to clean up the oil left behind after a fuel truck caught fire on the pennsylvania turnpike. it happened around 7:00 a.m. in

bensalem shutting down the eastbound lanes for hours. a viewer shot this video of the truck which was hauling about 2,700 gallons of home heating oil at the time. no one was hurt. a cause is still under investigation. the search for two escaped killers has moved to the new york/pennsylvania borders. someone spotted two men yesterday afternoon along train tracks near the town of friendship, new york. nearly 800 officers are searching the area for any sign of the escaped prisoners, david sweat and richard matt. the duo used power tools to cut their way out of the clinton correctional facility in northern new york earlier this month. a prisoner in new orleans is on the run after investigators say he shot and killed an officer while riding in a police cruiser. investigators say the prisoner somehow got his hands from behind his back, grabbed the gun and got into the front of the cruiser through a small opening.

right now police are trying to determine how the man obtained the weapon and they do not believe he used the officer's gun. >> that prisoner somehow was able to get his hands from behind his back where he was handcuffed, where then he was handcuffed from the front. he actually shot officer holloway while officer holloway was transporting him. >> officials say that officer was a 22-year veteran of the new orleans police department. delaware county businesses are working to make this father's day special for the son of a fallen philadelphia police officer. the youngest son of sergeant robert wilson iii turns two this month. a group of delaware county residents used social media to gather birthday cards for the boy. that idea spread and nearly a dozen businesses are holding a birthday party for him today in upper derby.

in march he had gone into a gamestop to buy a gift for his older son's birthday when two brothers tried to rob the place. wilson died after a shootout. a merck scientist in north jersey is facing charges for allegedly running a lab in his home to produce the drug ghb. prosecutors say chemicals and other materials used to make the drug were found in the man's springfield home in union county. ghb is often called a date rape drug because it can produce sedative effects. wait lists for veterans at some va centers are longer now than they were a year ago. according to the "new york times," the va has increased its capacity by 7 million patient visits since last year when a scandal over false records and long wait times hit the

department of veterans affairs. but officials did not anticipate just how much workload and demand from veterans would continue to increase. preparing for the pope. later today the philadelphia delegation for the world meeting of family also leave for rome. archbishop chaput, mayor nutter and local officials will meet with vatican officials to iron out the details. they will fly out of philadelphia airport at 6:30 this evening and will be in rome until friday. chris cato is also in rome. he will have live reports beginning tonight. good morning. we saw a lot of heavy rain move through our area anywhere between 1 to 4 inches depending on where you are. as we head into the rest of this morning we will continue to see a chance for flooding until about 8:00 a.m. then we're also going to be dealing with a few more moderate

to heavy downpours. certain areas are seeing it some are not. hot and humid conditions for us as we head into the rest of your father's day weekend. a live look outside now rains have developed here on our camera within the past 20 minutes or so same thing overlooking center city for philadelphia at the airport, it's raining now. 75 degrees. wind speeds out of the west at miles per hour. as we push into the rest of today, we're already in the mid 70s, you know it's going to be a warm one. temperatures pushing into the 90s. here's a closer look at the radar shot. you can see the remnants from bill pushing out of our area. where you see these thunderstorms here over the ocean, that's what moved through last night. now as we head into the rest of this morning we'll see a few more scattered showers. here's where we are dealing with the heavy rainfall, near egg harbor ocean city stretching up to atlantic city.

pit pittsgrove dealing with downpours. some rain in upper derby, now moving into westfield, haddonfield. this will continue for another hour or two before clearing up. we saw between an inch and four inches of rainfall. some locations saw about two inches, that was really the average for the system. with the future cast we'll continue to see spotty showers through 8:00, 9:00 then clearing. a bit of sunshine. by 4:00 5:00 another stray passing shower for parts of our area. today it's going to be humid and hot. look at our feels like temperature. by noon it's going to feel like 90 degrees. by the time you head out for an early dinner with, it will feel like it's in the 90s. even as we head out later on or 10:00 p.m. feeling like 84. needless to say, it will be a warm one. drink plenty of water today. the average for this time of year is 84. as we head into the rest of

talk about catching a wave. take a look at this. 66 surfers set the world record for the most people riding a board at once. about 5,000 people were at huntington beach in california to watch the guinness world record attempt.

the surfers rode the wave for 12 seconds. the previous record was set a decade ago when 47 surfers rode a wave for 10 seconds. turning to wall street and a look at what's ahead this week in the world of business. >> reporter: an emergency meeting about what to do with greece may set the tone for the markets in the week ahead. the european finance minister will be meeting in brussels this week to come up with a plan to keep greece from defaulting on its debt. which u.s. state is the west for business? the annual list comes out on wednesday. of course there is a countdown to number one with a few hins along the way. a couple of big names on the earnings front, nike releasing earnings numbers on wednesday. watch out to how those numbers match up to underarmour and foot locker.

either way it's hot out. we have a chance of showers in the morning. light rainfall moving through the philadelphia area. here's a closer look at our radar. it shows the heaviest rain has moved through the area. this is remnants from tropical depression bill. just dealing with a few scattered showers depending on where we are. heavy rain in cape may, now it's moved up to the northeast near ocean city and atlantic city moving closer to mystic island and stafford. also watching a little batch move through the northern parts of delaware. if i zoom you over here near clayton and glassboro, that's where we see another round of moderate rainfall. we were seeing rain in south philly. that's moved on to west deptford. atlantic city has some show irs. you'll notice we're seeing the clearing edge of all of these showers. we're pretty much done with the rainfall. we'll see another round as we head into the afternoon.

jones, one of four dults s adults treated overnight at penn presbyterian hospital for a shotgun blast. police detectives say someone opened fire at 11:30 last night as this family celebrated a relative's birthday. seven people including three children were wounded in the violence at 41st and ogden street. the shooter used a shotgun and possibly another weapon. an 18-month-old baby is also among those wounded in this attack. all the kids are being treated at children's hospital. all in stable condition. three adults still here inside of penn presbyterian being treated for their wounds. one of whom we don't know his condition. as for the cause behind us the motive i checked in with southwest detectives they don't have a motive no suspect, just lots of questions. if you have any idea about this crime, call detectives. live in southwest philadelphia jesse gary nbc 10 news. police are investigating a

investigators in in california want to know how this fire started at a marina close to where the u.s. open is taking place. no one was hurt but 30 boats and other vessels were destroyed. smoke and flames from the fire could be seen during the live broadcast of the tournament. officials say the blaze caused about $4 million in damage. and firefighters in southern california are fighting a wildfire that has burned 1,000 acres of land. crews had to evacuate several people from the path of that blaze which started yesterday afternoon near santa margarita. officials say they hope to have at least half of the fire contained today. an additional 300 firefighters are expected to join those already working on the blaze. investigators are still trying to figure out how this fire started. drivers in new jersey continue to see higher prices at

the pump. this marks the fifth straight week that gas prices have gone up in the garden state. according to aaa, the average price of a gallon of regular in new jersey is $2.62, up two cents from last week, much lower than the 3.59 drivers were paying this time last year. here's a look across the area. in new jersey, most drivers paying around $2.62. in delaware, the average is $2.75 a gallon. and in philadelphia, 2.91 a gallon. today is father's day, if you don't have plans you may want to head to the steel pier in atlantic city. there are several things happening there today including the atlantic city grand prix

powerboat race the bass pro shops are offering a family fishing tournament of sorts on the pier this afternoon and all the rides there. all dads ride for free from noon until 5:00. good morning. we are still dealing with some flooding concerns that's going to be mainly confined to cape may county and stay in effect until 9:15. we are seeing moderate to heavy downpours within that area. throughout other parts of our area i'll show you that on radar. hot and humid conditions expected as we head into the rest of the afternoon. so our feels like temperature will get close to the mid 90s. a live look outside, low hanging clouds. we're seeing drier conditions at the airport just about 20 minutes ago rain was coming down. now in philadelphia at 75 degrees. wind speeds out of the west at 9 miles per hour. it is going to be a muggy start to thing, as we get into the afternoon, hot and humid conditions expected. here's what's left of bill.

you can see the heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are off shore. a few spotty showers depending on where you are. ocean city atlantic city that's where we are seeing our heaviest rainfall. outside of upper pitsgrove, some moderate rain. we did see rain at the airport but now things are clearing up and drying up. in south jersey you saw on average about two inches of rain fall. some flooding concerns where we are seeing the heavy rain mostly along the shoreline. by 8:00 9:00 spotty showers then clearing. a bit of sunshine. by 4:00, 5:00, another stray passing shower for parts of our area. keep that in mind as you make your plans with dad. dry conditions we'll see warm

>> on guns i don't think you will see much change in washington. we're at a political stalemate on that front. here's where i think that this issue and more importantly i think the issue of racial reconciliation gets thrust upon the national debate. because we've had two high profile incidents in the state of south carolina on two issues. we had this massacre of course at -- in charleston on wednesday. before that you had the shooting a white police officer shooting an unarmed black man, sort of highlighting an exemplifying this issue of tension between law enforcement and the african-american community. when you look at the issue of race relations, racial tension in this country, perhaps the gun issue, because it all plays a prominent role on deciding who the nominees are, it will force the candidates to have a debate about both issues in ways that

normally wouldn't have happened. while i don't think anything happens in washington i think the presidential campaign will see both issues front and center. chuck, talking now about religion in politics. you'll be speaking with former arc governor and gop candidate for president, mike huckabee. he's known as the evangelical candidate. how big a role will religion play in the race? >> it's interesting, being an evangelical pastor turned governor, he was the second to last republican standing to john mccain in 2008 it is a powerful force inside the republican party. what was surprising was this confluence of religion government and politics coming together thanks to the pope who came out and said climate change should be dealt with as a matter of -- a good catholic should be worried about climb change. it will be curious see mike
