right now on nbc 10 news today, there are new clues in the crash that killed three young victims in philadelphia. the dangerous stunt police believe may be behind the deadly accident. plus the clock is ticking. it's almost time to get your regional rail passes for the pope's visit in september. coming up in a live report we'll tell you what you need to do to make sure you don't get stranded without a ride. and the heat wave continues with another day near 90. here's a live look at the center city skyline. once that sun is up we will see plenty of sunshine. good morning, i'm rosemary connors. it's 5:30 on this sunday.

let's get to the weather with michelle grossman. >> we had a pretty start to the weekend. we hit 90 degrees once again. today will make it the sixth day in a row of 90 degrees or above. the heat wave continues today also monday and tuesday before we start to change things. here's a live look outside, a pretty start to your morning. it's another nice day. another hot day. humidity levels are low today. staying hot. yesterday we reached a high of 90 degrees. today we're forecasting a high of 90 once again. it will feel like yesterday. maybe not as breezy. we won't have that today. right now temperatures warm. 72 in philadelphia. 70 in northeast philadelphia. 66 in millville. 67 in atlantic city. to the north and west mainly 50s and 60s. 62 in allentown. 64 in lancaster. 61 in pottstown a little cooler across the area compared to this time yesterday. so for today, by 8:00 74.

by noon, 86. by 3:00 89 degrees. another hot day today, we'll be hotter on monday. we'll talk about that also tracking storms in your seven-day. septa's lottery to buy a regional rail pass during the papal visit will begin accepting submissions online at 12:01. that's this evening into tomorrow. the passes are the only way folks can board trains from outlying stations into center city. jesse gary is live at 30th street station. jesse, this is the second attempt to sell these passes. >> rosemary that's right. septa tried to september these passes a couple weeks ago. the website was so overwhelmed and swamped, it crashed. this time it begins at 12:01 as sunday night becomes monday morning. the lottery during the paper lsal visit of the 26th and 27th will be restricted to 18 stations

outside the city. the train will express to two center city stations and then back out in the evening. to purchase the daily pass you must enter the lottery. the lottery opens 12:01 a.m. monday and closes 11:59 p.m. monday. so about 24 hours. only 300,000 passes will be sold. each entry received within the 24-hour period has an equal chance of winning. but winning is not the end of the story. once you get into the center city area you still have to get to the papal event and the mass on sunday the 27th. we'll explain the problems you could face with that coming up in 30 minutes. jesse gary nbc 10 news. mark your calendar join us this tuesday at 7:00 in the evening for an exclusive half hour on pope francis. we're the only local news operation to visit the pope's homeland before he visits

philadelphia. jim rosenfield spoke with close friends and critics to learn more about the man who became the people's pope. new this morning verizon employees say they will work without a contract while the unions that represent them and the wireless carrier schedule more negotiations. the decision comes after a contract covering nearly 40,000 workers expired just before midnight. that contract covers employees from massachusetts to virginia including pennsylvania new jersey, and delaware. this weekend while family and friends are remembering the three young victims of this deadly crash, philadelphia police have some new clues in the case. the community came together for a vigil last night to remember 17-year-old yvette gonzalez, 17-year-old, sabrina rhoads and

20-year-old fellenbaum. the felip hernandez. the family pleaded with the public to public an end to these tragic crashes. >> this shows you how dangerous this is. this is not the first. i know it won't be the last. we need to learn. >> police now have surveillance video that shows two cars racing near red lion road and bustleton right before the accident earlier this week. they also have new information on the second car which took off from the scene. investigators say it appears to be a dark blue or black bmw. police are now trying to track down the driver and any passengers inside that car. this morning a 10-year-old boy remains in the hospital but is stable after he was shot at a community swimming pool in chester. witnesses say a 17-year-old was chasing after three young boys yesterday afternoon and opened fire on them near the memorial park and pool. the 10-year-old was hit. several city workers helped

police catch the gunman. we just learned a short time ago that teen has been charged as an adult. outrablg outraged by the shooting, chester's mayor demands change. >> we have to stop this. you can't shoot up our city you can't shoot little kids in the park. >> i don't know where they're getting these guns from but the kids are the -- the teens are out of control. >> in another effort to cut down on crime, the city began installing the first of more than 100 planned surveillance cameras earlier this week. the mayor hopes it will speed up investigations and get criminals off the streets. a 17-year-old boy from philadelphia who was critically injured in a hit and run crash has been upgraded to stable condition. the driver could be facing more charges. the teen was crossing westminster avenue in west philadelphia around 1:30

yesterday morning when investigators say a gold buick lesabre hit him and took off. about an hour later officers stopped a car matching that description for reckless driving. that's when they spotted the car's heavy windshield damage and determined this was the car involved in the hit and run. the driver was arrested for driving under the influence. again, more charges are pending. family members and friends gathered yesterday in philadelphia to honor the life of a man who was hit and killed during a hit and run last weekend. francis arroyo was in a car with his brother when an suv crashed into them and did not stop. police found the suv and know who it belongs to but are still investigating who was behind the wheel. tomorrow, trial resumes in the case of a man who answered a craigslist ad. cook, who was from williamstown gloucester county was gunned

down in west oak lane in 2013. police says he was in the area with two friends to by an atv advertised on craigslist. when cook showed up for the sale coffee robbed and killed him. today training camp gets underway for the eagles. players will hit the field for the first time at nova care contest. there are lots of questions remaining. nbc 10 is the official station of the philadelphia eagles. coming up later this morning in sports we'll break down a last-minute off season move by chip kelly that sends a familiar face on defense across the state. the time is 5:38. still ahead a budget stalemate could mean big cuts for workers in pennsylvania. we'll tell you what services are expected to suffer and the sacrifice many employees may have to make to keep the state running.

the roads in tampa, florida looked more like rivers after storms dumped four inches of rain across the area yesterday. some sections of road were covered in a foot of fast moving water. flood warnings had been issued for the city and three surrounding counties. we had a dry day yesterday. we'll be dry once again today.

excess of 100 feet. the drought is causing significant fire behavior. and this area has quite a few homes spread throughout the area. >> with so many fires, resources are stretched thin. the california national guard is now mobilizing several helicopters to attack from above. the body of a man who jumped off a cliff into a berks county quarry has been found. rescue crews were called on friday night for a possible drowning. a man in his 20s was at the quarry with a friend when he jumped off a 100 foot tall cliff into the water. the friend went for help after the friend never surfaced. searchers found his body yesterday. we know the identity of a person hit and killed by a train near the levittown station yesterday morning. george redner iii, an emt, was trespassing when he was killed on the tracks. family members and friends say

redner was about to start classes at the philadelphia fire academy. to decision 2016. vice president joe biden says he is not ruling out a presidential run. political analysts say biden's friends and advisers are urging him to launch a campaign but that decision may not happen until after this month. talks about biden's possible run for the white house were put on hold earlier this year while misson beau biden, died from cancer in may. his focus on a presidential bid comes as hillary clinton is showing some declines in favorability among recent polled voters. president obama is calling it the most significant step the u.s. has taken to fight global warming. tomorrow the president plans to finalize a rule that will require power plants to cut greenhouse gas emissions even more than previously mandated. in his initial proposal, president obama called for a 30%

nationwide cut in carbon dioxide emissions by 2030. the final version will require a 32% cut. opponents plan to sue to stop the rule from being implemented. pennsylvania is in its fifth week of a budget stall mate. now the state's social services are preparing for cuts. some county and non-profit agencies are deciding which services might stop or if workers musten be laid off. some counties may front the money and some workers may go unpaid. this is the 12th time that social services are feeling the effects of budget deadlock. we have new information on cecil the lion in zimbabwe. officials have suspended the hunting of lions leopards in the area where cecil was killed. crews are also investigating the killing of another lion in april

that may have been illegal. they only received information about that killing this week. the announcements follow international outcry and a call to bring the american dentist who killed cecil to justice. authorities say the hunt was illegal and are seeking the extradition of walter palmer a dentist from minnesota. this month, nbc 10 and telemundo are teaming up with dozens of animal shelters to help find pets homes. it's called clear the shelters. it's on august 15th. on that day, shelters will be offering reduced adoption fees in hopes to finding homes homes for thousands of animals. you can share the event on social media, use use #cleartheshelters, and include pictures of your pets. come out saturday august 15th to welcome a new friend into your family. for shelter locations and for

hi i'm amy fadool. last night before the eve of training camp the eagles shipped out brandon boykin who has been traded to the steelers for a fifth round draft pick. he is only 5'10". his interception in the 2015 division finale clinched the division title against the cowboys. he tweeted out the following to the city of philadelphia, it's bin real. you know i always played my heart out every time i hit the field. all got love for you. today boykin's now former teammates arrived to check in

for training camp including receiver, riley cooper. camp gets started later today. nbc 10 is your official eagles station. we will follow the team all throughout training camp. our coverage begins at 12:30. after ten seasons, three all-star appearances, and one world series mvp cole hamels made his first start for a team other than the phillies. cole suiting up after his trade to the rangers. cole threw a no-hitter in his last start for the phillies. first batter he faced in that ranger red, angel pagan. down swinging. cole struck down six. on the night he was charged with five earned runs 7 2/3 innings worked. the rangers faithful already showing cole some love. ben revere now with his new team the blue jays. nice play here in left. crashing to the wall making the grab. he struggled at the dish.
