good morning. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. let's start with meteorologist bill henley who has the neighborhood weather forecast. bill, temperatures in the high 40s but it will be a gorgeous day, right? >> it is going to be a beauty. the skies are starting to brighten up. sun's not coming up until after 6:00. delaware, scattered clouds. lots of sunshine. 49 degrees in philadelphia. there are cooler spots. look at the warmup we'll see this afternoon. mostly sunny and warmer for philadelphia, 77 degrees. then into the middle 70s for the lehigh valley and delaware. you'll see lots of sunshine there, too. south jersey, a little bit cooler, we'll warm only into the low 60s this afternoon. as you can see, sunshine today. but you may have noticed the seven day scrolling at the bottom of the screen. it brings in showers and possibly thunderstorms, at times for election day. we'll look at those when i'm back in ten minutes. katy zachry has your first alert traffic.

s(parts of tomorrow as you said. but today it's dry. that's great news if you're headed out to work or school. green lights all around because these drive times are free and clear of any issues. 76, 95 and the blue route all looking good. average speeds as you can tell are around the 60s, upper 60s for the blue route. things are looking good there. taking a closer look at 95 in south philadelphia at broad street, we are seeing traffic pick up quite a bit but really it's not accounting for any issues along 95. that's the good news there. unfortunately for bravers in montgomery county, conshohocken road is closed beginning today for the next three months and that closure atechs traffic from ridge pike to fayette street. back to you guys. happening today, one last chance to win over voters in our area. hillary clinton has events today in wilmington and philadelphia. bernie sanders will also meet

supporters in the city. on the republican side, donald trump holds a rally in west chester and john kasich will be at a south philadelphia diner. nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us at the penrose diener south philadelphia this morning. matt, that's where john kasich will be stopping by today and if he's smart, he'll get some scrapple. >> that's right. delicious food here. i know they're watching us inside. i have to be nice about what i say. yes, john kasich he will be here later on this morning, 10:00 to shake hands, greet from voters, answer a few questions and then he'll be on his way to another campaign event down in maryland. all the attention will be focused on south philly, at least for this morning for john kasich as far as he is concerned. he's also making quite a bit of news within the past 12 hours. he now said he and ted cruz are teaming up to try to take down donald trump. kasich's office put out a statement saying his campaign and goal right now is to have an open republican convention. to do that, his chief strategist

says they will shift resources out west, continue the campaign, but give ted cruz a clear path to winning the state of indiana. it's a winner take all state. hope there the goal it to keep trump under the 1,237 total delegates needed to clinch of nomination. there will be strategy here. ted cruz's campaign says they will get kasich fight for oregon and new mexico. cruz's campaign manager said he hopes allies of both campaigns will follow their lead. donald trump, he went on the attack, he's the republican front-runner. here's one of his tweets, wow, just announced that lyin' ted as he calls him are going to collude in order to keep he had from getting the republican nomination. desperati desperation, he says. we're close to 24 hours until the polls open here in pennsylvania and delaware as well as three other states. donald trump as we mentioned, he has an event at west chester

university, later on this afternoon. a student group was protesting that visit, saying that trump is free to speak his mind but not at our campus. first up, though, governor john kasich here at the penrose at 10:00 a.m. we'll be following that for youç live in south philly, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. tonight the democratic candidates for president will be in philadelphia to speak to voters on the eve of the pennsylvania primary. msnbc will host back-to-back town halls with hillary clinton and bernie sanders. the candidates will take questions from voters at the national constitution center. host chris hayes will moderate the sanders town hall, that's at 8:00 tonight. rachel maddow will handle the clinton town hall which starts at 9:00. meantime, hillary clinton is getting a boost in pennsylvania from governor tom wolf. yesterday, the governor joined clinton at a baptist church in juniata park. >> i visited a program here in

philadelphia ten days ago. that is doing the work of trying to help young men get the skills they need, get the opportunity to apply for a job. we need to -- >> clinton also spoke about the need for early childhood education and better funding for the philadelphia school district. coming up in ten minutes, hear from democratic candidate bernie sanders and why he still believes he's on path to win the nomination. this morning, philadelphia police are investigating multiple deadly shootings and one of the victims was killed just moments after speaking with a political candidate. nbc 10's pamela osborne is live for us outside philadelphia police headquarters. pamela, what can you tell us? >> vai, police believe the shootings are gang related. they're trying to track down the shooters and they're also trying to figure out what all of this is about. the first shooting happened on the 1400 block of vernon road around 3:30 yesterday afternoon.

police say a 21-year-old man was shot twice in the back of the head outside of the m & s supermarket, just moments before the victim was interested in working with working with the candidate. we talked to his awn the who happened upon that scene. >> i was going to the store. i had no idea. i seen all the police cars but i had no idea that it was someone in my family. but then my nephew walks over to me and says aunt viv, he's gone. >> reporter: that wasn't it. four hours later, an 18-year-old was shot in the back on the same block. that victim was able to run a short distance. he was found in the 8,000 block of temple road. he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. a 17-year-old was also grazed in the head by a bullet. police say it was a drive-by and that it was in retaliation of

that earlier deadly shooting. we know that police have surveillance video of that first shooting that took place on brennan road. they're asking anyone with information to give them a call. reporting live at police headquarters, pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. 5:39. an autopsy will be done today on the man shot to death inside a montgomery county church during sunday service. another church member fired shots at the 11:00 a.m. sdbvice at keystone fellowship church on stump road, north wales, montgomery county. robert braxton, a member of the church was involved in an argument with another church member. during the altercation at least one shot was fired. braxton was hit in the chest while other parishioners ducked for cover. he is cooperating with police. they said he had a conceal carry permit. prosecutors are trying to determine if the shooting was justified. until then, there are no

charges. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> a cool start, skies are nice and clear. this is a live view from the loews hotel in center city. we'll see plenty of sunshine today and a big warmup, too. we topped out at 70 degrees yesterday afternoon, even warmer today. that's the seven-day forecast scrolling at the bottom of the screen. not just for philadelphia. that's one for each part of our viewing area. heading out this morning, temperatures are still cooling at this hour. it will be nice and dry all day long. live view from ardmore this morning. which has seen temperatures drop into the 40s to start with. sunshine, that will be bright. we'll see a big warmup today. in philadelphia, 49 degrees, right now 70 degrees by 1:00 this afternoon. what about the pennsylvania suburbs starting off at 50 degrees? you'll see scattered clouds late in the day, low 70s. that's at 3:00 this afternoon. the lehigh valley, cool right now. will be warming up into the 70s this afternoon. it's the winds that will help

boost the temperatures out of the southwest. they'll be stronger during the afternoon, then what you'll see this morning. south jersey, 70 degrees. that's by 1:00 this afternoon. right now it's 40 degrees with clear skies and a nice warmup from 48 degrees at the jersey shore. that's one of the warmer spots this morning. the temperatures will peak in the low to mid-60s this afternoon, right along the coast, 64 degrees. cooler there. you can expect a warmup for delaware as we go into the afternoon hours and the temperatures, 40s will be long gone. 64 degrees at 11:00 and then this afternoon into the 70s. possibly upper 70s for a couple spots. that's today. there's the seven-day. when i come back, your ten-day outlook. 19 minutes before 6:00 a.m. time to get another check on the roads, see how it looks out there. >> nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter katy zachry is monitoring all of our cameras this morning. >> 422 montgomery county

drivers, 422 eastbound between trooper and route 202, the right lane has been taken out because of construction that started late last night. i'm still trying to determine if that construction is lifted. anytime there's been a closure like that of an entire lane, if it lifted in the past ten minutes, there will be residual delays out there. your drive times on 422 are looking pretty good. of course, just remember if you're headed eastbound between trooper and route 202 you might be reduced to one lane because of overnight construction that began just before midnight. taking a look at your 95 drive times, this is in and around the wilmington, delaware area.ç if you're headed northbound between 295 and 495, that will take you about ten minutes. 48 degrees right now. summer travel, we'll tell you where you can save and where you'll have to spend more if you're making summer travel plans.

woody beale is using barber shops to educate young men about the importance of voting. in 2012, african-american women turned out 9% higher than african-american men. beale plans to use barbers to launch this program and eventually expand the program nationwide. reloy leroy is one of the barbers already involved. >> what's your pitch to me. >> you need to vote if you care about yourself, your family, your friends. >> beale was given a grant from the knight foundation to turn his plan into action. democrat bernie sanders is continuing his push in pennsylvania. the vermont senator campaigned in harrisburg yesterday. he's scheduled to hold a rally tonight at drexel university's athletic center. on msnbc's "meet the press," sanders says he still sees a path to victory. >> the fact that we have shown that there is massive dissatisfaction in this country with the status quo, that people

bright. it's coming up just after 6:00 your seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen will be warmer than it was over the weekend. beautiful day. 70 degrees yesterday. we're shooting for the upper 70s in philadelphia today. that being said, it is chilly right now. the jersey shore, 44 degrees. south jersey at 41 and that's where we'll find the coldest temperatures this morning. south jersey is seeing the temperatures drop down a few areas in the 30s. look at atco 39 degrees, pemberton at 38 and pitmann is 45. to the north, florence is 47, cinnaminson, 46 degrees to start with. a cool start but a warming day today. turning warmer than it was over the weekend with bright sunshine and just a few high clouds later in the day. tomorrow, it's a different story. election day could feature some showers and thunderstorms. but not all day rainfall. first thing in the morning, tuesday, those showers are off to the north and west. a chance of showers will develop as we go into the afternoon

hours that's due tomorrow afternoon at 2:30. the storms sweep through the area and clear out later in the evening. you won't see the storms today. forecast neighborhood by neighborhood call be for upper 70s in somerton, south philadelphia. the sunshine for lansdale, easton, 76 degrees today. so the south, south jersey, hamilton township, haddonfield, middle 70s today. upper 70s for glassboro and a warmup of the shore, too. not as much inland areas. wildwood near 70 degrees along with linwood. dover is up to 76 and bright sunshine in wilmington. a little bit of a breeze. that will be a southwesterly wind coming in ahead of the chance of showers. well to the west of us will be dry at that hour. the forecast, calling for changes ahead. the temperature today, 77 in philadelphia. tomorrow even warmer ahead of those showers and thunderstorms. those late-day storms will clear out for wednesday. we need some more rainfall.

to pick up pretty steadily. if you're trying to get out the door this morning, now would be a good time up in the area. things are looking good. as bill said, we're expecting rain later in the week but not now. roads are dry. this isç an aerial shot at 76 d montgomery drive. increased volume here heading into center city philadelphia. and then slight increase volume out of center city philadelphia as you head westbound to the blue route and points west. things are looking great here and your drive times are all in the green, average speeds on most of the majors in pennsylvania are in the 60s and then let's take a look at drive times on some of the majors in new jersey. 295 looking pretty good. average speed in the upper 60s if you're headed southbound between route 38 and 168. the 42 freeway for those of you headed up to the walt whitman bridge, that will take you five minutes as you make your way northbound through route 55. >> we are nearly 100 days from the 2016 summer olympic games in

good morning. just a few minutes before 6:00 a.m. on your monday. i'm katy zachry with a check of the roads. take a look outside. the sun is coming up. it will be a beautiful day. no rain today. drivers are taking advantage of the dry roads and the pretty easy commute. this is a live look at route 202 right where it meets up with the schuylkill expressway around the king of prussia area. traffic is picking up minimally. no major delays to tell you about. coming up, there is a delay in downtown conshohocken that is going to affect drivers starting now through the summer. i'll have details. more americans are getting ready to travel this summer. >> orbitz says 77% of americans plan to travel. experts say the cost of flying is down, aaa predicts gas prices will be lowest they've been in the last 12 summers but the coast of the hotel stay is up.

four minutes before 6:00. we're counting down the days to the summer olympics. >> this week, we're bringing you reports from jacqueline london who went to rio recently to find out how the city is preparing for the historic games. we found kids diving into guanabara bay. the bay will host the olympic sailing events. it has a beautiful view of the mountains as you see but it's also polluted with sewage. there was a noticeable smell during nbc 10's visit. >> authorities promised a reform of the city's sewage system and that 80% would be treated. has that happened? >> it's happening. progress is happening. athletes will be in a safe environment to compete. >> another concern, of course, the zika virus. nbc 10 asked how the city is fighting the global health threat. you can hear what we find out during nbc 10's "rio 100" airing
