news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> and i'm vai sikahema. you see behind us here, the fog that blanketed our area. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley and the most accurate forecast for your neighborhood. good morning, bill. >> good morning, vai. it's widespread overnight, warm air pushing into the area as the temperatures have been climbing, but the warm air has brought the moisture. the view from the nbc10 studios. coatesville, that hasn't changed since 4:30 this morning. zero visibility, language caster, pottstown, doylestown, at quarter mile visibility. look at the dense fog for trenton, philadelphia, philadelphia international is reporting a little better visibility than just an hour ago. but it's dense in wilmington, atlantic city, now three-quarter mile visibility. to the north, belmar. a quarter-mile visibility. a lot of fog this morning. it's going to take some time for it to clear but it will clear as the temperatures climb. and this afternoon, we'll get sunshine. 58 degrees in the lehigh valley.

heading for 70 degrees in delaware and 70 in philadelphia as well. we'll go through it hour by hour and show you when you can expect to see sunshine and when the warmer temperatures will race into the area. but first, jessica boyington has the "first alert" traffic. >> starting offer in sicinnaminn in an overturned tractor trailer. it's moving away from the tacony-palmyra bridge. we won't see any backups there at least approaching the bridge to get into pennsylvania. the traffic is moving by a little bit slowly there. also in new jersey we are seeing slow speeds that's because of fog. some speed restrictions on the new jersey turnpike, from delaware memorial bridge headed north to 175, exit 7a. down to 45 miles an hour for the speed restriction on the garden state parkway. again, both directions from cape may around clinton falls. and more speed restrictions over the bridges.

61, and the powerball number 2. a winning million dollar ticket sold in new jersey. we don't know who sold that ticket. >> 6:04. president trump's key advisers will address their conservative base today in maryland. vice president mike pence and education secretary betsy devos are among the speakers. the president takes the stage tomorrow. the president's latest move is to reverse a directive by former president obama. >> trump administration has lifted federal guidelines that says transgender students should be allowed to use public school bathrooms that match their chosen identity. the trump white house says the issue should be a local decision. it will now be up to the states and school districts to decide whether federal sex discrimination law applied to gender identity. there will be no change in

philadelphia public schools meanwhile. >> superintendent says the transgender students can continue to use bathrooms based on their gender identity. meantime, secretary of state rex tillerson is in mexico to meet with mexico's president to discuss trade and immigration. yesterday, the administration discussed concerns. and the country said it would not pay for a border wall. and the revised president's ban on travel will not be released until next week. the reason for delay not clear. of course blocked the original order banning entry to the u.s. from seven muslim-majority countries. vai. new from overnight, philadelphia police say a man was shot and dragged down the street in strawberry mansion. officers found the victim in a vacant lot at north patent street. and a vacant lot. and a burlington county woman

faces sentencing for a hilt and run that killed a teenager in camden count. 16-year-old whyson turner died after being hit. she took off after hitting the teen. a niece in the car later called 911 to report what happened. it's 6:06. delaware lawmakers are holding a hearing after work conditions. after an uprising killed a guard. yesterday, we learned that more than two dozen medical workers have quit their jobs at that james vaughn correctional center. that's when guard steven floyd was killed during a standoff. our colleagues in delaware spoke to an officer at the prison who said workers fear for their lives. >> i have had several inmates come up to me and say, sorry for your loss. and other inmates say oh, it

ain't done yet. it ain't done yet. we're going to get another one. we're going to get a white boy next time. >> the announcement comes after the prison warden was placed on paid leave. eight corrections officers have also handed in their resignations since that deadly standoff. >> new numbers show soda tax sales are fizzling. the city managers report lower than what is needed to reach the yearly goal of $91 million. small business owners say the soda tax is directly to blame for the slump in sales. while the mayor explains the criticism of the tax. >> city council, as well intentioned as they may be, i think they made a mistake. >> these soda industry people are really bad. they put out misinformation. >> despite the tax, the

"first alert" meteorologist bill henley has the most accurate forecast for your neighborhood. bill. >> you can see in that picture, the change that's happened the last hour, because an hour ago, when we looked at it, it was zero fog in pennsburg. this is a view looking at citizens bank park. no sign of it, there's a lot of fog in delaware, philadelphia and south jersey where the temperatures are in the 40s. as the warm air that's been surging in the area overnight, bringing in the moisture and giving the fog. up to 51 degrees in bridgeton. and the temperatures start climbing before sunrise. turnersvill turnersville. audubon. florence. and some areas don't have clear

skies that have gotten cooler but the temperatures are now climbing up warmer than an hour ago. so the temperatures are climbing, but it's going to take hours for the fog to clear. so expect to see thick fog at the bus stops. allentown, quakertown, exton, reading. you'll find that for atlantic city and trenton where the visibility has been down to a quarter mile. we do have that flow with moisture, too, bringing in the fog that's going to lead to massive warmups this afternoon. fog will clear, then we get sunshine, and then the temperatures take off later today. 9:00 in philadelphia. 51 degrees. the fog will still be around. it won't be as thick as it is right now, but it will linger into the late morning hours. then at 1:00 in the afternoon, breaks of sunshine. look at the temperatures going from 51 degrees to 63 degrees at 1:00. we'll see a similar warmup in

the suburbs to the fog. this morning, done at 1:00 in the afternoon. and 63 degrees. the lehigh valley will eventually get fog. it's just starting to roll into the northwestern suburbs and neighborhoods. 49 degrees and then sunshine and middle 60s at 5:00. in gar, 9:00, we'll see some improvement. look at afternoon temperatures for delaware. and also new jersey, a little cooler at the shore, however that is warmer than yesterday. the fog will clear out. 60 degrees by 1:00 this afternoon. warmer weather ahead for the weekend. and then some changes for the second half of the weekend and into the next week. i've got the 10 day on 10 when i'm back in ten minutes. >> all right, bill. ten minutes past 6:00 a.m. on this thursday. people are navigating their way around this fog. 422. >> let's check it. nbc10's "first alert" traffic reporter jessica boyington is

watching the roads, jess. >> right around trooper road, 422, no major problems. we're starting to see some delays a little early. a little early after the 6:00 mark. we're watch something traffic moving towards the schuylkill expressway. nine minutes eastbound from 29 to the schuylkill, speeds in the high 50s there. traffic moving on 422. even through the foggy conditions. norristown, a crash. harding boulevard around markley street. and moving into new jersey with the tractor trailer. out in cinnaminson, we're seeing this here. we will also double-check in with that. either way the southbound side on route 73 just between o'donnell lane and around high street, coming away from the tacony-palmyra bridge. so, at least we won't see any more backups or delays for traffic trying to cross the bridge, especially if there's an opening at some point for the rest of the morning. i'll check in with that

dinner tables, all of the devices have to go away. mom and dad included. >> eating with social media. >> yeah. date night, leave the phones at home. >> that's right. >> let's find out what's happening with the roads out there. >> fog. >> fog, a lot going on. of course, bill can tell you about that later. >> we have to get to you work first. i'm going to start off doing that. route 309 around the p.a. turnpike. over in ft. washington. it looks great so far. for drivers and drive times not really seeing any big problems with delays. just reduced visibility in the area and because of that we're also seeing speed restrictions as well. dense fog in the new jersey turnpike. speed restrictions under 50 miles per hour from the delaware memorial bridge. heading up to exit 7a, 45 miles an hour on the parkway coming from cape may to clinton falls. we're seeing reduced speeds in some areas.

we're also watching an overturned tractor trailer. in cinnaminson. we do have a lane here. at least we won't see any backups or delays if a bridge opening occurs later on in the morning commute. for now, we're watching slowdowns coming off of that ramp as well. as for the rest of the bridges, the tacony-palmyra, no problems approaching the bridge because of that tractor trailer going the other way but we're also watching fog on the commodore barry. >> let's talk more about the fog. with "first alert" meteorologist bill henley with the most accurate neighborhood forecast. >> it's widespread. we're seeing fog at the shore. this will show you the clouds that are with us over the fog. that we'll still see even after the fog disappears. some of the thickest fog can be at philadelphia international. actually reporting a half-mile visibility which is an

improvement. that looks socked in from that view. right now, zero visibility from coatesville. pottstown, a quarter-mile visibility. reading and berks county, lehigh valley, allentown, five-mile visibility. dense fog for doylestown, blue bell. northeast philadelphia and trenton and wilmington all seeing quarter-mile visibility. some spots along the coastline, toms river and belmar, thicker than atlantic city, no issue at all. and the temperatures have actually been warming up overnight. at midnight, philadelphia was 43 degrees. well, rt sun's not even up. 48 degrees right now and climbing. and the temperatures got schooler where the skies were cool overnight. 35 degrees in the lehigh vaem. most of these neighborhoods have seen the temperatures climbover night.

warrington is 45. bedminster in the 30s, now 42 degrees there. we'll see a big warmup day. we'll get sunshine for doylestown, trenton and philadelphia this afternoon. showers to the south this morning. but i am watching a little bit of activity to the northwest. not much of the system, not coming together yet. but we could see some showers this evening. and we'll definitely see some wet weather for the weekend. temperatures in the 70s saturday. and the suburbs will still be mild on saturday. a big cooldown for sunday and that will come with the cold front. before it gets here, we're headed for 70 degrees this afternoon. the fog will be long gone. we'll have breaks of sunshine. warmer tomorrow. we could see a repeat of fog in the morning and sunshine in the afternoon. turning cooler for sunday and another warmup next week. look at that, back to upper 50s tuesday. 70 degrees on wednesday. another chance of storms on wednesday. another cooldown for thursday, friday and saturday.

valley. allentown has reported light fog at five-mile visibility. much thicker for pottstown. doylestown, blue bell. coatesville hasn't changed at all. we're seeing the fog in southeast philadelphia, now reporting delays of half-mile fog. quarter-mile fog in wilmington. and even some areas at the shore. but not everybody at the shore is seeing that. more common in central and northern jersey than it is in south jersey right now. here you can see the range of conditions. there's delaware. look at the lehigh valley. easton completely clear this morning. the fog hasn't reached here. the warm air hasn't moved in. but the warm air will be moving in with clouds at 9:00 this morning. you may see fog developing in easton, before we break out with bright sunshine and see a big warmup by lunchtime. 59 degrees. the suburbs, 49 degrees. philadelphia, that's a view looking across the delaware towards center city. socked in right now. the fog will still be here at 9:00. then we'll get sunshine.

each of the neighborhoods, we'll see a big warmup, near 60 degrees in the lehigh valley. 70 for philadelphia. 60s for the suburbs today. a warmup today. i'll take you through it hour by hour, and show you when you can expect to see sunshine when i'm back in ten minutes. we'll find out about the roads. jessica boyington has the update from the "first alert" traffic center. >> we're watching fog over in conshohocken. you ask see traffic is moving along. but we're seeing visibility affecting the roads, affecting a lot of things. watching for delays there. there's no "a" or "b" service today. trains will still be making all stops but expect some overcrowding and delays there. back to the fog, affecting the philadelphia international airport, we're dealing with about 28-minute delays for arrivals. this is just off the betsy ross bridge, route 90, we're seeing

delays there, towards the southbound of route 73. approaching that from the tacony-palmyra bridge, lanes watching restrictions on the southbound side. gasoline spilled on the road as well. cleanup under way. vai and tracy, back to you. we're following breaking news in philadelphia. two men are hospitalized passer two men shot them while sleeping. and discovery outside can help solve the case. nbc10's matt delucia is live on the scene with new information. matt, tell us what you know. >> reporter: tracy, we've been on the phone with police all morning. so far, the three men involved in this have not been cooperating. let me walk you through wlapsd. we're on an alleyway. 2700 block here. part of investigation is inside the house, part of investigation is in the alley. those three people are in the hospital this morning but police don't know what the motive was for the shooting.

two people were sleeping on the second floor of the home. they were woken up when gunshots were fired at them. both men were shot in the leg. they were rushed to einstein and expected to survive. and then police found another man walking along this alleyway. he was bleeding and carrying a plastic chair. police are treating him as a suspect as he's being treated at einstein. we were talking to police surrounding this case this morning. >> we don't know if this is some type of home invasion or what the motive is. we didn't find any forced entry to the property. we only found the broken windows. it's obviously broken out, not broken in. >> reporter: here's a live look. you see that police car all the way down the alley here. about three quarters of the way down from where we are. as we pull out, we'll show you this is where police found that third man who was shot. and he was carrying that plastic

chair right here by the driveway. so investigators don't know what to make of this case right now, if this was a home invasion, a robbery or what. again, none of those three men have been cooperative thus far. live at west oak lane, i'm matt delucia, nbc10 news. >> matt, thank you. more breaking news, the city of philadelphia has just released new figures for january collections of the soda tax. and they are double the original estimate. now, the revenue department says the city took in $5.7 million in the month of january. officials say that's a projection. and it's expected to increase. the projection from city manager's office had been $2.3 million. the city needs to reach a yearly goal of $91 million. here are the other headlines we're following for you. one winning powerball ticket for last night's $435 million jackpot. we just learned it was sold in lafayette, indiana. and a work worth $2 million was sold in new jersey. in southern california, a

confrontation between a police officer and group of teens prompted demonstrations overnight. a video shows the off-duty lapd officer firing a gun as he told the teens to get off his lawn in anaheim. the bullet didn't hit anyone. >> and last night, the trump administration reversed a directive by former president obama. the trump white house says the issue should be left up to states and school districts to decide. president trump's policy changes are prompting hostile homecomings for republican lawmakers. le. >> and constituents are venting frustrations to congress members at town halls all across the country. the white house says they're being infiltrated by so-called professional protesters. >> people made their voices heard at a town hall meeting in central new jersey.

they directed their anger at republican congressman leonard lance in somerset county last night. the crowd questioned lance on stance on abortion, the dakota access pipeline. meanwhile, people packed an affordable care forum in media. one of the concerns is one brought up by a teenager who says she doesn't know what she'll do if she has to get off her parents' coverage. a man is in jail after paramedics and an off-duty police officer stepped in to stop him from stabbing family members in this car. police say the man stabbed his wife and stepdaughter when the car was stopped at a traffic light. that's when emts jumped out at the traffic light that happened to be at the scene. >> we were holding the hand with the knife, got her out. >> they actually did save the

day. let's hope and give wishes for the young lady. >> stepdaughter was critically hurt. the wife is in serious condition. the stepfather spent the night at lehigh county jail. >> in bucks county, school will be open today after fire damaged several classrooms at pennridge high school in perkasie. limited the damage to mostly fire and smoke in a few classrooms. luckily, no one was hurt. most of the morning, we've been watching fog really thick in some areas. >> yeah, some areas getting it hard. meteorologist bill henley has the most accurate neighborhood forecast. >> when we took a look at pennsburg, pennsylvania, about an hour and a half ago, zero fog. now, the moisture is moving north and giving us the fog. not just pennsburg, but much of

southeastern pennsylvania seeing the fog. the fog will disappear, temperatures will be climbing and this afternoon, with breaks in the clouds with sunshine, going to be unseasonably warm. many neighborhoods will reach in today. during the evening hours can't rule out a thunderstorm either but during the day, it will be dry. right now, look at the current skies. the cloud and fog, 48 degrees in philadelphia. and 50 at 8:00. and it will still be foggy. by 10:00, fog is gone. clouds are here. those clouds thin out this afternoon. that's when we'll see the temperatures take off. 66 degrees and climbing at 2:00 this afternoon. fog in the suburbs. 48 degrees right now. still dealing with fog in the 8:00 hour. into the 9:00 hour. but it will slowly thin out. we'll see improving visibilities during the morning. cloudy skies at 10:00. with breaks of sunshine at noon, 59 degrees, look at the temperatures leaping into the 60s with more and more sunshine.

we'll start with sunshine in ethan. that's a live view but there are neighborhoods in the lehigh valley getting light fog. 35 in easton. light fog in parts of the lehigh valley at 8:00. then clouds will thin out as we through the morning and upper 60s for lehigh valley. new jersey seeing a lot of clouds and fog, too. fog will still be an issue at 8:00. at 10:00, a great view of the clouds. the fog will be out here. then look at the warmup, 2:00 temperature, 68 degrees, southwesterly winds we're likely to see some 70s in new jersey between the 2:00 and the 4:00 hour. at the shore, warmer than yesterday, there are some clouds, even some mist this morning. even a sprink is possible at the shore. 51 degrees. the fog at 8:00 will be moving out. sunshine taking over. and 60 degrees. very close to it during the afternoon. and delaware, there's dense fog this morning. still an issue at 8:00. by 10:00, the fog is gone.

by early in the afternoon. we'll see a lot of sunshine. and temperatures in the upper 60s, near 70 degrees today. the 10 day on 10 with big changes for the weekend when i'm back in ten minutes. >> all right, bill. 19 minutes before 7:00. so fog is going to remain, the 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 hour which means it will be around after sunrise and rush hour. >> yeah. let's check with the roads with jessica boyington. >> right there you can see, girard avenue, everybody has their lights on. moving southbound towards center city, we're seeing increase in drive times as well. nothing happening on the roads just cars. speeds now into the 20s. which is should be with reduced visibility in place there as well. there's a crack on lower moreland at red lion road at philmont avenue.

jobs. new job would not begin until christie's term ends. let's take you state by state and county by county for a look at stories. we start in the poconos, a man on video, a man in stroudsburg knocking down an ice sculpture. the sculpture was part of a winter festival if you recognize, call police. and a bethlehem father is suing from overturning a ban at as a wrestler at a school. the earlier this morning, liberty high school barring the father from its gym for what it calls offensive behavior. and pennsylvania's current attorney general said the bills for his team for kathleen kane

reached $3 million. the nurse's union is planning to walk offer the job in drexel hill. and in bristol borough, the small business owners from the grove will be feature in a web show to show how they're growing the business. and new castle county, wilmington has the first bike lane, outside of the cafe on north harrison street. it's parts of a statewide program to be more bicycle friendly. to that end, the state is sending out surveys and holding workshops. turning to "nbc10 responds" a watcher recall impacts many. and concerning from viewers having trouble getting rebates

six weeks for a check, still nothing. >> i was livid. >> reporter: we contacted samsung and asked what a customer can expect when it comes to repairs or rebates. samsung says most customers wait four to six weeks for a rebate check, that's after you send in all of the documentation and expect seven days for a repair. after we got involved, burwell got her rebate. >> they apologized for the inconvenience saying it's learning from every consumer experience to improve its process. if you have a response or a problem, let us know about it, go to the numbers on the screen and we'll respond to you. 11 minutes before 7:00 a.m. we want to show you the fog in various places.

coatesville is pretty bad. this is montgomery county in pennsburg. not too bad there as you see cars driving with low beams as they're supposed to. >> "first alert" meteorologist bill henley has the most accurate forecast. it will eventually clear out, right? >> believe it or not, coatesville, you mentioned, zero visibility all morning. penns landing, you can see in the foreground, the bridge, new jersey -- oh, there it is. ocean city, new jersey actually getting sunshine. there's fog in ocean city. there are some areas that have no fog, abington is not one of them. a abington and spring city, look at that, going to take time to clear off. zero visibility, but not the only spot with zero visibility. quakertown, it was clear for most of the night in quakertown. now that fog is reaching into the lehigh valley. thickest town, doylestown, blue

bell, south of jersey, delaware will see the fog clear out, so will new jersey but it's going to take hours for that to happen. the bus stop, a foggy start. look at these temperatures, 42 degrees in allentown. the starting point. and temperatures lots of clouds and temperatures in the 40s. by lunchtime, the clouds will be long gone by late this morning. we'll start to see sunshine at noon time. temperatures in the 50s warming into the upper 60s. and there will be some 70s. wilmington getting close to the 70 degree mark. it will warm into the low 70s in philadelphia. this evening, i'm watching areas north and west for showers. possibly even a thunderstorm. that will clear out for tomorrow morning. we have another foggy start tomorrow morning and another warmup. the warmup continues over the

weekend ahead of another line of thunderstorms moving in for saturday. saturday morning into the early afternoon. that's to the west. we'll see another warm day saturday before that sweeps through and cools things down starting saturday evening. so a lot of changes ahead. for the next three days, you can count on temperatures in the 70s. yes, fog this morning. we'll probably see fog tomorrow morning but it will warm into the 70s. 70s again on saturday. mostly cloudy in the morning. the storms will cool things down for sunday. the storms will be gone but colder weather here, wind, too, 48 degrees. then another warmup, starts monday. close to 60 on tuesday. 70 with another cold front. and more storms on wednesday. another cooldown for next thursday, friday and saturday. >> looks pretty good, bill. thanks. eight minutes, with the fog to contends with. route 73, another issue we're following. >> let's check in with jessica boyington and see how things are

looking on 73 southbound? >> yes, 73 southbound. moving away from the bridges, betsy ross bridge and the tacony-palmyra. right in that fork right there, comes from the betsy ross bridge from route 90 southbound. that's why we're seeing delays in that direction. overturned tractor trailer on the southbound side that actually spilled gasoline as well. cleanup under way. lanes getting by, not closed right now, but you will see delays moving in that direction. also watching new jersey we're seeing changes because of fog. the memorial bridge, 195, exit 7a, about 50 miles an hour there. down to 40 miles an hour to cape play to tinton falls as well. you see the walt whitman bridge, 25 miles an hour. tacony-palmyra bridge nice and clear. also watch the philadelphia international airport, if you

cameras right around city line avenue. you can clearly see fog here in the cameras. and big delays also, the westbound side moving towards king of prussia. pretty big delays on the northbound side, harding boulevard around markley street. and route 73, watch for that crash southbound just after betsy ross bridge, an overturned tractor trailer. it's a foggy one this morning. but warm for most of the area, into the 40s. now 49 degrees in philadelphia. the suburbs some thick fog. 43 degrees right now. we're up to 47. still foggy at 9:00. but as we go into the afternoon hours, look at those temperatures, we'll get sunshine. we'll see a big temperature turnaround into the upper 60s and low 70s this afternoon. it's part of a trend that's going to continue tomorrow. more fog in the morning, a warmer afternoon tomorrow, warmer weather into the weekend. what happened to february. >> right. >> don't forget, you can get my "first alert" forecast on the go on today's 101.1 fm.
