we're clear on the tacony palmyra and betsy ross for now. in new jersey, route 70 in cherry hill. around the cameras at kings highway. both directions look good. again, intersections are dry. we're not seeing any backups or delays. back to you. >> thank you. now to video you'll only see on nbc10. it captures the moments leading up to a deadly police shooting in philadelphia. we're not showing the moment that he was killed. >> it shows an officer, though, shooting and killing a man running away. his family is demanding answers. katy zachry joins us live from police headquarters in center city. this officer is off the street. >> reporter: he is off the street, and he will remain off the street until this investigation ends. the commissioner says they have a lot of work to do with the case. the surveillance video is key that they have that. even stronger than the surveillance video, police say they have two independent
witnesses who were at the scene and saw it unfold. the witnesses found themselves at this deadly officer-involved shooting by chance. they were being transported to special victims unit for another case. police say when the officer who was driving them to svu pulled a man over who was driving erratically on a dirt bike. of the officer got out. when the man on the bike started to walk away from him, the officer grabbed his waist and. a gun on his belt. here's what the officer did then -- >> immediately draws his service weapon and tells that male not to pull it. he orders him not to pull it several times. according to the witness in the back seat, that male pulled away from the officer and pulled the gun. a some point, the officer does discharge at least one time. >> reporter: your grandson.
>> here's a look at the restaurant next to where it happened. this happened at hunting park and whitaker. the police chief -- police commissioner tells us he is troubled by what he saw on the video. more coming up at 5:30. reporting live at smyrna police headquarters, nbc10 news. a story out of washington. one officer in very critical condition. another seriously hurt after a pickup hit both officers. at least one other person was injured. witnesses say the pickup truck swerved around the city bus and hit the officers who were on their bikes. the pickup collided with a dump truck. police arrested the pickup driver and a passenger. 5:04. here's a look at some of the other top stories we're following this morning. >> new from overnight, an 18-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot in the head on 25th near lehigh avenue. this is in north philadelphia.
investigators say video shows the victim got into a fight with another man inside a deli. that other man then shot the victim. right now police are looking for the shooter. today in norristown the first day of testimony in the bill cosby sexual assault trial wraps up with more testimony from a 2005 deposition. it was brought by his accuser, andrea constand. this week one went took the stand saying cosby drugged and molested her at his home in 2004. her mother testified that he confessed in a phone call. cosby denies the charges. today in bucks county, we're expecting to learn more details about an arson investigators say was sparked by fireworks. police arrested a man in connection with the fire. flames ripped through this house on stevens road in voter isville last -- in n norrisville last saturday. police say they have a
confession in the case. this morning the country continues to process and weigh in on the unprecedented testimony from former fbi director james comey. he said he believes that president trump defamed him and the fbi because of the federal investigation into election meddling by russia and possible ties to the trump campaign. >> by saying that the organization was in disarray. that it was poorly led. that the work force had lost con any dense in its leader. those -- confidence in its leader. those were lies plain and simple. it's my judgment that i was fired because of the russia investigation. >> comey told senators that he believed the president directed him in so many words to drop the investigation into former national security adviser michael flynn. >> i took it as a direction. this is the president of the united states with me alone saying -- i took it as this is what he wanted me to do. i didn't obey that, but that's the way i took it.
>> you may have taken it as direction, but that's not what he said. he said, "i hope." >> those were his exact words, correct. >> when asked why he did not object to president trump during a one-on-one meeting in january, comey said he was too stunned by the request. president trump's personal lawyer says james comey's testimony vindicates the president proving he did not try to hinder investigators. >> the president never informed in substance directed or suggested that mr. comey stop investigating anyone including the president never suggested that mr. comey "let flynn go." >> mark kasowitz disputed comey's statement under oath that the president asked comey for his loyalty. nbc news reports that jared kushner, the top adviser and son-in-law, could meet with senate intelligence committee
staffers later this month. sources say the committee expects kushner to provide documents and take questions from senators. he's under fbi scrutiny in the russia investigation. investigators believe he has information that they consider important. comey's hearing is raising more questions about attorney general jeff sessions' role in the russia investigation. a source tells nbc news comey told senators in closed session about a possible third contact sessions had with russian officials last year. sessions recused himself in the russia investigation but was involved in the process of comey's firing last month. we have continuing coverage of the comey hearing. coming up at 5:30, we look at the controversy swirling around leaked memos and reaction if local lawmakers. in other news, a man who served as a youth hockey coach in jersey and south delaware is facing sex crime charges. walter farrenden is accused of
abuse stemming to the 1990s. police arrested him on new charges this week after a new victim came forward. he's already facing charges of having sexual contact with a 12-year-old boy in gloucester county. the man is accused of abusing two boys in wilmington. good morning. i'm flirt meteorologist erika martin with most accurate weather forecast. we want to know what happens as we step outside and how the day will unfold. as far as temperatures go, nicely for this morning. a mix of sun and clouds, but mostly sunny skies. upper 70s by noon. keeping it in the low 80s by 4:00 p.m. it looks like we'll top out at 84 in philadelphia. seeing plenty of sunshine as the day progresses. a couple of extra clouds later tonight as a system tracks just off shore. something that's affected states to the south.
it will not affect us. what we will be seeing are a few clouds. the lehigh valley trending nicely, mid 70s. by noon, plenty of sunshine. take advantage because we have an area of high pressure keeping everything high and dry. lots of sunshine. for the jersey shore, 74 degrees by noon. 79 by 4:00 p.m. once again, i do have to show you your pollen levels for the next couple of days. it will be so dry, i think many of us will be sniffling and sneezing throughout the upcoming weekend. sunday, high to extreme. and monday, very high to extreme. today, pollen count is moderate. your ten day on ten, we have this heat wave in the works. i'm tracking record-breaking temperatures for monday and tuesday. conditions look mainly dry for the next couple of days. i have to add the chance of an a.m. shower quickly on saturday. mostly sunny skies even though we'll see lots of sunshine especially for the second half of the day. sunny on sunday, monday, and mostly sunny on tuesday. be sure you follow us on social media for more updates.

pennsylvania lawmakers are taking new steps to protect people with mental and physical disabilities. lawmakers proposed a bill that would strengthen the state's hate crime law that includes attacks against people with disabilities. it comes in response to incidents like this. a boy sucker punching a 38-year-old disabled man in germantown. four boys ages 12 to 15 were arrested in connection with the attack. and today, a charity run will take place to help two
girls from the area. >> they're both battling severe illnesses. the event is called the chicken runs at midnight. it will begin in haddonfield this evening, wrapping up with a 3k run downtown. the money raised from this annual event this year will go to help 13-year-old brook mulford who's battling stage-four neuroblast oma and 13-year-old sarah n. cronrun who has severe cerebral palsy. members of the family who started and host the event say it's about doing their best to help two special girls while having fun along kings highway. >> we shut it down, and we have the fire trucks out here at night lighting the way. it's just a lot of fun. it's -- a 3k. but it's a 3k light. >> it helps all different families, kids in the school system that are very sick with leukemia and need funds to get them to the hospital, support their doctor bills. one of the kids lost there are legs a year ago. we supported him.
