good friday morning. welcome to news channel 8 today. i'm gene ramirez. >> and i'm gayle guyardo. in our top stories this morning, a cruiseship gets back on track. fog prevented the carnival paradise from coming into tampa's port, trapping hundreds of passengers onboard and onland. and now the cruise is docked and set to the head back out to the sea a day late. and today we will get more information about a family's lawsuit against the animal kingdom. they claim a snake fell from a tree and bit a little boy. this is at disney's animal kingdom.
his grandmother saw it happen and then died of a heart attack. the family's attorney is set to release more information about the case this morning. disney is not commenting on the lawsuit. pirates are ready to invade tampa bay. gasparilla festivities kick-off tonight and the parade of pirates starts tomorrow. thousands of people will crowd bay shore. the invasion begins at 11:30 tomorrow morning and the parade starts at 2:00. and let's get a head start on the weather. going to be a beautiful weekend. >> yeah, today is a nice day and tomorrow we will have a high of 68 degrees, a good deal of sunshine and maybe a little cool for the pirates but i think for the most part, we're looking good. right now, we are 54 in tampa and lakeland. 57 in st. petersburg. satellite and radar picture showing that all the rain has left us and now only a few clouds and even those are moving out as well. so today, lots of sunshine, a little breezy, a high temperature around 64 degrees which is below average for this time of year. so a little cool today.

because -- came to a screeching halt because of fog. the carnival ship that was supposed to leave on a-day trip yesterday won't -- on a four- day trip yesterday won't pull out until today. ryan, the passengers seem to be okay with this. >> reporter: who could complain about spending an extra day at sea? the ship behind me had trouble pulling into port yesterday. those onboard didn't seem to mind. >> we were fogged in. so we couldn't go anywhere. so we parked and just waited. and we thought it was going to break but it didn't. so they started feeding us again and selling us our drinks. so we had a good time. >> take care now. >> thank you. >> reporter: indeed, ellen and faye of lakeland were stuck on the ship an extra half day but they enjoyed themselves. the carnival paradise had to wait to pull into the port of tampa because of foggy conditions at sea. the paradise got back to land
and some passengers disembarked then and others will get off this morning. and those who plan to head out yesterday won't leave until later today because of today. the plan to stop in mexico is cancel sod they'll spend three days at sea. if we could come back live, another look at the carnival paradise. as a good will gesture, carnival will give people leaving today an extra 50% off that cruise and 50% to use a cruise in the future. >> not a bad deal. thank you. after hours of searching, two missing children from st. petersburg are home safe. the 5-year-old and her 4-year- old brother were the subject of an amber alert. we followed the search as breaking news right here on news channel 8. the kids were taken from their grandparent's home. she does not have custody and threatened to kill herself and the kids in the past. it's your vote. this morning, the first gop
