good morning. welcome to news channel 8 i'm gene ramirez. >> and i'm gayle guyardo. breaking in the last hour, thin, thin margin. hillary rodham clinton takes the iowa caucuses. nbc called the race about 45 minutes ago with just one county still out in the state. senator bernie sanders is still getting a lot of attention for getting so close to beating clinton who was once considered a shoe-in for the race.
rubio is waking up a big winner in iowa. >> when i am a nominee, we will unite our party, we will grow our party and we will defeat hillary rodham clinton or bernie sanders or whoever they nominate. [ applause ] >> he picked up steam and senator rubio came in third place just behind senator ted cruz and donald trump. we will have much more on the iowa caucuses in just minute, including the two candidates that dropped out of the race overnight. and this is a big deal this morning. a dense fog advisory is in place across our area until 10:00 a.m. just take a look at the conditions early this morning in plant city. this could definitely cause problems for you as you head out the door. so we will check in with leslee lacey in a minute. but let's turn things over to leigh spann right now to find out this is going to lift. >> well, you know, the dense fog advisory for our entire community until 10:00 a.m. and areas right along the coast out in the gulf of mexico, that sea fog could actually last all day.
morning, please be careful, visibility is very low. lakeland down to zero. you can only see about a quarter mile in front of you in most places meaning you could barely see down the block. might not be able to see the stop sign or person in the road so take it easy this morning and watch the fog forecast. this is through 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 this morning, still very thick fog. until 10:00 a.m., now this is 10:00 and right after that, we break the fog up on land. and notice places like anna maria island and along the coast, may be socked in with the fog all day. it is also groundhog day. we will see what punxsutawney phil says but with an afternoon high of 80, it's going to feel like an early spring today, only a 10% rain chance. in weather and traffic on the 8s at 4:38, i go through the eight-day temperature trend. but fortunately we're going to continue with the fog. >> we are. it's a creepy drive. let's take a look at 275, at sly avenue, folks.

person to person, leader to leader, vfw to dunkin' donuts returning to the great state of new hampshire. >> caucus goers in iowa said they favored cruz because they want a candidate that shares their values. donald trump came in second place and our senator, marco rubio a close third. and on the democratic side, senator bernie sanders seems pleased with this tight race. >> i think about what happened tonight. i think the people of iowa have sent a very profound message to the political establishment, to the economic establishment, and by the way, to the media establishment. [ applause ] >> results came in to our newsroom about an hour ago that clinton took the win. while she did not suffer a loss like eight years ago, the results mark a stunning turn from the solid lead she held in the polls in iowa late last year. and those aren't the only
>> yeah, some candidates are getting a big bump in their campaigns including our own senator marco rubio. news channel 8s lindsey mastis is following this story for us. >> good morning gene and gayle. florida senator marco rubio is getting a lot of aplay on social media this -- of play on social media this morning right now. he is coming in third. the reason is, he is only five points behind the leader, senator ted cruz and one point behind donald trump. >> when i am the nominee, we will unite our party, we will grow our party and we will defeat hillary rodham clinton or bernie sanders, or whoever they nominate! [ applause ] >> reporter: now senator rubio is at 23% and it drops off from there. ben carson is in fourth with just 9%. and unfortunately this morning, things are not looking good for our former florida governor jeb bush. he took sixth place with just 3% of the republican vote. and now mike huckabee came in last on the republican side so

important and they're in jeopardy if the city doesn't step in and do something. he wants the city to take action by noon today. >> if this is not handled by tomorrow at noon, just like gary cooper, they're going to come in and take whatever action necessary to make sure the residents are safe. >> reporter: again, he is talking about noon today. the city council man wants the residents gone. our 8 on your side investigator dug up an engineer's report that urges them to leave because of a void at least a hundred feet deep under the building. government red tape has their hands tied. the state regulates apartments. and now he wants the city to take action if the state doesn't force the residents to leave here by lunchtime today. back live, now the state claims it can only take action if the deficiencies are seen. they did an investigation and found 18 warning signs like loose railings and broken windows.

at 7:00 p.m. and i talked about the 10% rain chance today. and that goes up to 20% late in the day tomorrow as a big cold front comes through. wednesday night through thursday with a 70% rain chance. and thursday night into early friday we could still be seeing rain before things begin to dry out. and it's going to cool down. by friday, a high of 65, upper 60s for saturday. and another storm system coming through on sunday. let's check in on weather and traffic on the 8s because it's foggy everywhere. >> it is foggy. but at least it's not wet on the roads. >> why is that? >> well, a little bit of fog it's always wet but for the most part, we have a good drive aside from the visibility. brooksville, no delays here. a decent drive as well if you're coming from hernando through pasco county on 75, still looks good. sarasota, overnight construction tying up a lane at the university exit. but you can get by. and a live look at the messy fog, 275 at sly avenue in the heart of tampa, thick here.

panthers will face the denver broncos in super bowl 50. this morning the excitement is growing in san francisco where fans are gathering at super bowl city. streets and businesses in downtown san francisco are a lot more crowded than usual. there are a loft eventings to enjoy from live entertainment to games and photo ops. one colorado family is gearing up ahead of sunday evening's kick-off. they built a 12-foot tall snowman with quarterback peyton manning's number painted on the front. manning helped lead the broncos to their second super bowl game in three years so the six hours it took to build the giant replica was well forth it to them. >> i don't know if he can throw with the twig arms, right? today in florida, many parents are taking about disturbing video of a day care center director allegedly the mat. you can see her striking the 4-

and it's warm now with the fog. 62 brooksville. 59 bartow. 65 sarasota. my weather watcher bob in venice says 64 degrees. what's happening, the big storm system out west bringing blizzard conditions. for us, it's leading to a southerly wind flow and that's why it's so warm and humid. and it's one of the reasons why the sea fog offshore will continue all day today. and tomorrow morning, watch for more fog, watch for more mugginess and not until late wednesday does this cold front finally get to us, bringing in a 70% rain chance for thursday. leslee, how's traffic on the 8s? of course, it is foggy, folks. here's a look at 275 right around bearss avenue before you get into pasco county here at the edge of hillsborough, very, very thick. and let's look at i-75 right around fowler avenue, still foggy and that continues all the way through up into the area of pasco county on 75. so keep that in mind. and 75 in the sun coast area,

it is time for weather and traffic on the 8s here on this tuesday at 4:58. the dense fog advisory goes until 10:00 this morning. very thick in polk county, and eastern hillsborough, right along the coast, st. petersburg and up into citrus and hernando counties. now the fog will last through 10:00 a.m. on land but there may be sea fog that lasts all day and that could conceal some of the coastal areas as well. on this groundhog day, it will feel like an early spring, muggy, 80 this afternoon, 68 degrees tonight with more fog. i will let you know when the rain chances increase coming up. here's a look at the fog. fowler avenue. into downtown tampa. and a quick look at 275, not too far away from the skyway bridge.
