the overpass near overpass road. it is now back open. and right now, a stretch of i-275 northbound in tampa is closed. there's construction along the northbound lanes that run from lois avenue to arraignia. and they're expected to re-open in about an hour and a half. >> the good news, i-75 is back open. right now, trouble spot here. and you saw the back-up. overnight construction. it's going to last for the next hour and a half. and this is northbound 275 at lois avenue. exit kennedy and you won't get stuck in the back-up. and you have to come down on kennedy because it's closed from lois over to armenia and you can come back up on howard or continue into downtown, depending on where you're headed. let's take a quick look. and you can see before you get to lois, they start pushing you off here.

and it's off the howard franklin bridge. so hopefully the weather is better for us. unfortunately not. you will want to hold on to the wheel with both hands. we have a high wind warning. extremely gusty winds out there. even on non-elevated area, you may have to hold on tightly. it's all behind this cold front. and don't go out on the water. there's a gayle warning offshore. lake wind advisory and a rip current risk as well. so this is the wind speed right now, out of the northwest from 15 to 20 miles per hour sustained winds but gusting up near 30 to 35 miles per hour. so please, be careful out there. there may even be a couple of areas with sprinkles between now and about noon. as the day goes on, i think we

stay tuned to weather and traffic on the 8s at 4:08. >> all right. thank you. developing northerning, the man accused of attacking a 6- year-old girl at a mall bathroom in clearwater is in jail. he is 18 years old. >> police arrested rickey thompson. today he is expected to face a judge. paul mueller shows us how police caught their suspect. >> reporter: good morning. police got a lot of tips and one really panning out. police calling this guy and he actually came down here to answer questions and then this is where he wound up, in jail. >> it was an accident. that he went into the wrong restroom. >> reporter: yes, you heard right. that's when 18-year-old rick coy thompson told the cops. >> i'm not sure when he realized he was in the women's restroom. >> reporter: the 6-year-old girl realized, screaming do the top of her lungs here at the the macy's bathroom friday night. >> she panicked and screamed at

these scary images and video all over social media. news channel 8's lindsey mastis morning alert. many of us go on cruises. this sounds like a nightmare. good morning, gayle. hundreds of people are commenting and sharing this story on our wfla facebook page and it's the top clicked on wfla.com overnight. look at this. waves 30 feet high, tables and chairs toppled over. the cruiseship intrucked passengers to stay in their -- instructed passengers to stay it out. the whole ordeal lasted about 12 hours. weather forecasters reported winds of up to 100 miles per hurricane. royal caribbean reports in serious injuries. they are refunds passengers and

fell into the water. and rescuers in taiwan begin a third day of rescuing looking for earthquake survivors. crews rescued several people from under huge chunks of concrete but 40 people died. a volcano in mexico is causing problems for travelers. it sent ash and vapor more than a mile into the air four different time. the national airport some 400 down. crews cleared ash from the runway for about two hours. people near mcdill air force base should expect to hear loud voices later today but it's not cause for alarm. the 16th air mobility wing will test a voice speaker system this afternoon. the speakers will be broadcasting test messages. so no reason to be concerned. they just want to check out the coverage. a reality tv star is making

emergency crews recorded wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour. the conditions have residents worried about coastal erosion. they have seen what high winds and high tides can do but likely their coastlines are holding up. the time right now is 4:18. here in florida, we are dealing with a cold snap. >> a cold snap and very strong winds which are really churning up the seas as well. you. the bigger story is this wind. it is kicking up. and it's going to help usher in cold air throughout the day. still gusty at noon and still 55. we don't warm up much. 58 at 3:00 p.m. you will still need a jacket. notice it's 50 in crystal river verses 60 in north port. bob in venice is at 61. the tide is going out right now. but we will see higher than normal tides.

have another high tide and the highs higher than normal. seas at 10 to 14 feet. got that gale warning and a high surf advisory as well. so the front has pushed to the south. watch the time here, until about 7:30, temperatures drop drop into the upper 40s to low 5050s at that point. but with the wind off the gulf of mexico, we never warm up. we might hit the upper 50s today, tonight colder at 456789 and another windy day tomorrow with highs in the 50s. we slowly warm up for valentine's day. traffic right now, we have good news. northbound 275 has been reopened here right at lois. earlier it was closed and you were diverted off. but just to let you know, the dale mabry off-ramp is still blocked. so exit lois and come over here. you're not going to be able to exit just off of dale mabry highway northbound. and leigh has been talking

seems like day by day, gas prices just keep dropping. the average price for a gallon of regular gas is down to $1.74. the cheapest since 2009. the lowest prices in the nation are in oklahoma city, gas there is at $1.11 a gallon. analysts believe prices will stay low unless there's a major disruption in supply. tampa just made another best cities list. they named the best cities for
