welcome -- on this tuesday morning. welcome to you. i'm gene ramirez. >> and i'm gayle guyardo. live pictures of interstate 275 in tampa. the northbound lanes of 275 are back open after a closure this morning from lois to armenia avenue. here's a look at it now. and new this morning, drivers have one new lane to use. this is a spot that's been giving drivers headaches for weeks. we have team coverage beginning with leslee lacey. so leslee, you're familiar with the area. >> oh, yes. and there's been a lot of congestion going on here. and what was going on is they actually changed one lane to as a through plane -- through lane so that they could continue with the construction. and on top of that, they have now opened up the fourth lane between west shore and himes. so come rush hour, it should make it easier to commute through the area and elevate some of the congestion. last check the exit to the dale mabry highway it was only thing
so keep that in mind. but overall, a decent drive. and actually ryan hughes is out there on the road right now live. so let's go to him. ryan, tell me what you're looking at at this point. >> reporter: well, some traffic here and there this morning. take a live look in front of me. this was supposed to be closed until 5:30, until right now this morning. but it reopened sometime before 4:00. and we have video of the detour last night from eagle 8 hd when traffic was backed up. the good news, according to a press release we just got from the florida department of transportation, the lane that was closed have since reopened. so people coming into the tampa area from st. pete, the howard franklin bridge will now have extra lanes to deal with. so as you may remember over the last few week, we told you how

are about 30 cameras behind the doors in downtown st. pete. the cameras recording 24/7. so it's going to take a while for police to go through all of that video. in the meantime, we talked to the executive director about the heist. >> i would more or less say i'm heart broken. i was completely shocked. >> reporter: so here you see detectives collecting evidence, looking through everything in the spot where the piece of art used to be. police believe someone snatched it on sunday between noon and 5:00. and let's go to a picture of the piece, you see right there. it's worth $25,000. not very big though, just about eight inches. once the police get through the video, they are hoping that they'll be able to form a sketch about what this thief looks like. and of course, as soon as we get that, we will share it with you. gayle -- >> okay, let's hope they find whoever did this because we are blessed to have the collection right here. thank you so much.
accused of attacking a 6-year- old girl in a mall bathroom in clearwater bonded out of jail. the 18-year-old rickey thompson is facing a battery charge now. he told police the whole thing was, quote, an accident. he explained he was there to pick up his young son from his estranged wife, and quote, accidentally went into the women's bathroom. he is now charged with battery. and happening today, crime stoppers of tampa bay will announce a new reward program to fight gun violence in hillsborough county. the program includes tampa, plant city and temple terrace. in 2015, the hillsborough sheriff's office investigated firearms. you will be hearing engines revving up in st. petersburg. construction of the 1.8-mile course of the grand prix event is now underway. it happens through downtown st. pete and they'll start putting it together later today. the mayor and the 2015 race
the first block along bay shore drive. the grand prix starts march 11th. something you may want to keep in mind before getting in the water, shark attacks are on the rise. according to data just released by the florida museum of natural history, 2015 set a new record for shark attacks. 98 attacks were reported worldwide. of those, 30 were reported right here in florida. that's almost a third of the total. according to scientist, that previous record was 88 attacks back in the year 2000. the gas station owner has a lot to clean up this morning. take a look, high winds are being blamed for this canopy collapse. this morning inspectors will be back at the gas station in california to try to determine what caused the fall.

the kids are home, maybe coming home early from the commute, the wind speeds will be up to 20 miles per hour. and they'll stay breezy through the evening. let's check on traffic on the 8s. again, we know there's a high wind warning on the skyway bridge. yeah, use caution between manatee and pinellas county at this point. so kite surfing out of the question today. just be safe. >> yeah, be safe out there. and use caution across the skyway bridge. 275 over here in hillsborough county, the exit to dale mabry highway still blocked but should be reopening soon. the lanes have been reopened. if you're just waking up, we now have a fourth lane. so it should ease congestion come rush hour. and this is on 275 northbound avenue. so looks different here but it's all part of the widening going on. so this morning, you have a commute. and let's move over now and
