good morning and welcome to news channel 8 today. i'm gayle guyardo. >> and i'm gene ramirez. we begin with breaking news on this friday morning. right now, look at this. a mangled mess. you've got the to see this. a pickup truck crashed right into and through a carport and landed on top of two cars. we do have a crew on the scene and we will walk you through what happened with a live report in two minutes. in our other top stories
white house comes to tampa today. republican front-runner donald trump will hold a rally. preparations are underway at the campus. the rally is expected to be packed and it could cause traffic headaches this evening. and a democratic show down in milwaukee. this morning, the head to head debate between presidential candidates hillary rodham clinton and bernie sanders is dominating twitter here in tampa. >> the american people are tired of establishment politics. >> i am not asking people to support me because i'm a woman. i'm asking people to support me because i think i'm the most qualified. >> the debate was the first time the rivals met since senator sanders won the new hampshire primary by a land slide. an 8 on your side warning. yet another skimmer is found at a bay area gas station, this
this week, another skimmer was found in st. petersburg. statements. it's 4:01. friday morning. >> and we have made it out of the cold snap we have been in all week. so yeah, there's a chill in the air. it's 41 in lakeland. around. 43 in sarasota. but look what a difference just from yesterday morning, inverness, crystal river, 20 degrees warmer. lakeland is about five degrees warmer. and we will get to 70 this afternoon. close to the average of 72. and look at this, down to 54 degrees tonight. in weather and traffic on the 8s at 4:08, i have an hour-by- hour look at the friday and then the weekend. and leslee has the traffic situation. a good drive on the bay area bridges. interstates look good but we have some issues. south of the zephyrhills area, paul buchman highway, a collision here.
lookout for that. and let's move over south of the brooksville area, more on this crash coming up. but it's blocked in both direction. and they're trying to get the accident wrapped up. but it's definitely causing a little bit of an issue out there. traffic very light. and also down the town brooksville looks great. that's a look at weather and traffic. back to gene and gayle. >> all right. back to the breaking news right now. a rude awakening at a home in gibbston. a pickup truck crashed into an airport and then air born and landed on two cars. >> incredible. news channel 8s lindsey mastis just arrived at the scene. we saw the live pictures. lindsey, looked like a mess throughout. >> reporter: it is such a mess. and i want you to take a look at the path that the pickup truck took because you can see where it hit some of the trees here, some of the plants and then i we want through the concrete blocks and into the
on one vehicle, it also landed partially on another vehicle pushing it into yet another vehicle. so altogether, four vehicles involved here. and we're told that the driver, a man is under arrest under suspicion of dui. what is interesting is that as bad as is and as bad as it look, no one got hurt, not even the guy that was driving the vehicle. and now they're trying to remove the vehicles. so we want to come back out live. and you will see how we have the towing service just holding up the car part to make sure it doesn't collapse. and then one by one, they have been taking the vehicles out. and they just removed the pickup truck. and there's another car, it's hard to see from here, but there's another car in the carport right now. the family is really upset about this. they don't want to talk about it. but can you imagine, waking up in the middle of the night, this happened, the call came in around 1:50.
wants to wake up to, especially on a friday morning. >> absolutely not. lindsey. thank you. you can download our breaking news app no matter where you it. right now, a warning for parents about a popular app among teens called kik. a 25-year-old man is accused of using the app to threaten a polk county girl. investigators believe the man told 11-year-old to send him naked pictures or else. >> reporter: it's a popular app with young kids and teens and it's called kik, and anybody can anonymously sign up and target your children. it's one of the most popular apps out there, kik, but it's said to be one of the most dangerous, anyone can be predators. >> i said if the there's a all the people. if you don't, you need to exit the app. >> reporter: she says she monitors her daughter's app.
the group chats and then, if that group chat, you know, there was somebody she didn't the know but it was an outside friend, they could be in the chat. so there were other additions to it that i wasn't comfortable with. >> this is a disturbing example of how suspects can prey on your kids in your own home. >> reporter: like lucas bails. he posted her address and said he would send strangers to rape and hurt her if she didn't obey him. >> your child's information is out there to where they can get the name and face and find out where they live and go to school and use that information to hurt your child. >> reporter: detectives learned through the investigation that he tried to extorte nude pictures from another young victim. they believe there are more victims out there. reporting in polk county, news channel 8. >> thank you. this morning, tampa police are looking for another person in connection to the deadly shooting at club rayne.
take a good look here. this is a surveillance image. detectives between find out what this man knows about the shooting here at club rayne on nebraska avenue. two people died and six others were hurt. today the last four occupiers of the wildlife refuge in oregon will appear in court. they surrendered to fbi agents peacefully. they were the last of a larger group that took control of the facility to protest federal land use policies. tough listen to this story, this morning, a nail salon worker in largo is facing serious charges. detectives claim he was caught on camera stealing from the real estate office right next door to the nail salon. police tell us that this video shows the 29-year-old stealing fuses from exit realty sun coast. and here's a better look. this all happened after the power went out at the nail salon where he works. the fuses, they would only cost
damage to the real estate is facing grand theft charges. a federal judge is ordering hillary rodham clinton's remaining emails to be released by the end of the month. those 550 pages of emails from the time as secretary of state will be published saturday. the last of her 55,000 pages of emails will be made public by february 29th. this final batch is expected to information. president barack obama is nominating dr. john b. king, jr. to serve as education department secretary. king has been serving as acting secretary since ann duncan stepped down in december. he oversaw federal education programs for preschools through 12th grade before serving as acting secretary. and king was the first latino to serve as new york's education commissioner. it's 4:08. still chilly out there.
but if you're getting ready to go for your training run for the gasparilla distance classic, i would like to go this cool, brisk morning but more comfortable and pleasant weather for the run getting ready during the early evening hours. yeah, most of us are in the 40s. maybe 50 by 8:00 a.m. and look how fast we get to 65 by noon. and then 70 at 3:00 p.m. i mean, a fantastic day to be outside during the afternoon and early evening. around 63 degrees at 7:00 p.m. so the the cold snap has ended. back to 70 this afternoon. tomorrow morning early, i expect a cold front but not much rain with it. in fact, i'm not putting any rain chances in. just a slight chill sunday morning and then rain chance increase monday night into tuesday morning and closer to average over the next several days. let's check on traffic on the 8s. it's friday. >> it is friday, i'm so happy about that and valentines a day

struggling to understand why a man would go on a rampage with a machete. people are horrified. >> a man came in and started beating up on a man. and i thought it was a personal thing. and then he just started down the row hitting everybody with something. i don't know, people were bleeding. >> four customers were injured. they were rushed to the hospital and are expected to be okay. for the attacker, police shot and killed him after a short chase. well down in miami, police are searching for this woman. she stooped really low, she is caught on camera here stealing medicine intended for a sick child. yeah, surveillance video captured the woman walking up to the front porch shortly after a ups delivery driver dropped off the envelope with medicine. she stuffs it in her purse and escapes in the get away car. the boy's father is now upset.
i mean, don't get lower than that, in my opinion. i hope you're happy. you took medicine from a kid. i mean, wow, you're great, awesome. >> the boy's dad explains his son will be okay. in the meantime, police are looking for the woman who got into a beat-up silver honda with a black hood. an 8 on your side alert this morning. three deaths are now linked to the zika virus. venezuela reports three people died with complications from the mosquito-borne illness. so far, they are reporting more than 5,000 cases in the past four months. brazil is the epicenter of the outbreak there. at least 1.5 million people are infected. that's prompting concerns among athletes expected to the participate in the summer olympics in rio. >> i am thinking about the concern and hopefully we can take the right measures so that everything will be okay. >> chosen not to worry about it. >> well, when the olympics start in august, it will be
