house comes to tampa today. republican front-runner donald trump will hold a rally at the usf sun dome. preparations are now underway on campus. the rally is expected to be packed. and it could cause some traffic headaches this evening. and did you see it? a democratic show down in milwaukee. this morning head to head debate between presidential candidates hillary rodham clinton and senator bernie sanders dominating the twittersphere right here in tampa. >> the american people are politics. >> i am not asking people to support me because i'm a woman. i'm asking people to support me because i think i'm the most qualified. >> this debate it was first time the rivals met since senator sanders won the new hampshire primary by a land slide. an 8 on your side warning this morning before you gas up for the weekend. yet another skimmer is found at a bay area gas station. this time it's at an exxon on

this week, a skimmer was found in st. petersburg. so make sure you check your bank and credit card statements this morning. it's 6:01. let's get a check on the weekend weather with meteorologist leigh spann. but before you plan the weekend, when you plan your drive to work, there's a little and not everywhere. anywhere between hillsborough and polk county along i-4, that's the only placeky find extended thick fog. you might see patchy areas. but most places starting out cold. it's 53 in tampa. so warmer than yesterday. lakeland, 4 3 . fish hawk 48. bradenton, 48. how much warm senator well, by 11 degrees in tampa. when you compared to yesterday. brooksville, 13 degrees warmer and. we will make it to 70 today. very close to the average of 72. and certainly warmer than it's been recently. and we only drop down to 54 tonight. at 6:08 in weather and traffic on the 8s, i'll have a weather and traffic update on the hour-

lindsey, it's a mess behind you. >> reporter: it really is a mess. and i want you to take a close look over here. notice it's not just debris but also the family's belongings. and what is miraculous about this is that no one was hurt. if you look at the damage here, you can just see how serious this is. i want to show you what this scene looked like at 3:30 when i got here. you can see the pickup truck under the car sport it had to go through two pillars first before it landed on top of another car. and then the tow company had to take the cars out one by one and tow them away. the pickup truck was on top of a honda acard and it hit another honda accord which pushed that into a black suv that's a nissan. and that one was also damaged. and they had to take all of them away. and one neighbor tells us that the family is really upset. >> shook up. shook up.

girl. news channel 8's adrienne live. and adrienne, i know this kik app is hugely popular. it's been coming up a lot many the news lately. what do parents need to know? >> reporter: good morning, gayle. well, i know that you monitor your kids' social media closely know what kik is. well, according to the app itself, 40% of american teenagers are actually using it, if you believe that. and here's the scary thing, their phone anonymously. >> your child's information is out there enough to where they can get the face, the name of your child, find out even more about your child, where they live and go to school then use that information to hurt your child. >> reporter: scary for any parent to hear that. and definitely some disturbing details in this specific case. according to the sheriff's office, 25-year-old lucas bales

and in fact, he even posted her address on kik and threatened to send strangers to rape and hurt her if she didn't listen and send those pictures. and now thankfully, she did not follow through and send those photos and she is doing okay this morning. we did just check and bales is in jail right now. he is set to face a judge in a few hours in lee county. and then eventually be extradited back here to polk county. so of course, we will stay on top this story and let you know any updates in this case. scary though, gayle. >> it really. is because as parent, we have to remember the predators know how to work the social media. and we have to stay on of the of it as much as we can. maybe you can help with this. this morning, tampa police are looking for another person in connection to the deadly shooting at club rayne. and now they want to talk to this guy. take a close look at the surveillance picture. good shot on the left. detectives want to the find out what he knows about the shooting at club rayne on

collide and six others were hurt. -- people died there and six others were hurt. and today four occupiers of the national wildlife refuge in oregon will appear in court. they were the last of a larger armed group who took control of the facility to protest federal land use policies. and a federal judge is now ordering hillary rodham clinton's remaining emails to be released by tend of the month. those 550 pages of emails from her time as secretary of state will be published saturday. the last of the 55,000 pages will be made public by february 29th. the final batch is expected to contain the most sensitive information. interesting to see what's on there. let's get a check on weather. >> the it's a little cool. i wouldn't call it cold, maybe a brisk start. so if you're training for the gasparilla distance classic, there's not a bad time to go for a run. i'm saying the most pleasant weather will be in the evening but any time you go out, just

look at this, pleasant, there's a little fog now and i don't expect it by 8:00. and we warm up very quickly at once sun comes up, 65 at noon, 70 and beautiful at 3:00 p.m. and send the kids to play outside. and even during the evening around 63 degrees at 7:00 p.m. the cold snap, we've snapped it. we are back to 70 this afternoon. a weekend cold front early saturday. and not expecting any rain but there will be a slight chill sunday morning. the next best rain chance late monday night into tuesday morning. and let's check on weather and traffic on traffic on the 8s because a lot is happening. you said snap. i say snap because we have bad traffic. it's a mess at southbound 275. you might be hearing from other places that it is right at i-4 and the connector, but here's what's going on. where you see the accident backed up. i saw each car one by one turn around and go the other way to get out of the jam. it's completely blocked.

ba da ba ba ba in your vote, republican front-runner donald trump will be in the bay area today. he is holding a rally at the university of south florida. that's where thousands are expected to turn out as we fast approach the march 15th florida primary. but not everyone will be pleased to see him. some were disappointed about a decade ago when he planned to build a luxury high-rise in downtown tampa and then pulled out at the last minute. as many developers did of

and i checked in with my weather watcher big monkey in crystal river, 52 degrees. high pressure on of the of us this morning. still cool, relatively light winds and you might need a light jacket. as high pressure pushes east, the winds around it see winds coming from the south for us. so mostly sunny and near 70. tomorrow morning, i am forecasting a cold front but i'm not putting rain with it. you will just see a few extra clouds early saturday, about 5:30. and then it sweeps through quickly. and we see a little bit of a cool down, breezier on saturday afternoon. but the coldest will be saturday night. again, great timing if you you valentines. 44 sunday morning. 68 by valentine's afternoon. hold up for the next rain chance tuesday morning. leslee, checking on traffic on the 8s, not so lovely. nothing to love about this into valentine's day weekend. look at this, westbound i-4 through ybor, hitting the brakes. southbound 275, really jammed up.

now you are going to want to plan around this before you walk out the door because this is not going anywhere any time soon. good morning to you. welcome to news channel 8 today i am gene ramirez. >> and i'm gayle guyardo. let's get right to leslee lacey to check on how to get around the mess. leslee, this is unbelieve until the middle of rush hour. >> absolutely. crash. with that comes the closure and right now, you don't see vehicles and then the big accident here, this is the ashley drive ramp. so you're not going to be able to exit at ashley. what is happen, everybody is getting pushed over and they on. so we have a significant back- 275. armenia instead. and look at the back-up, it's hard to see. but this is martin luther king people exiting here. that's a smart decision but if you can go back farther to hillsborough avenue because it's stacked up to martin luther king so let's take a quick look here and look at

heavy away from hillsborough. so if you exit at hillsborough, come down on howard armenia and hop back on the interstate. for hours. and also a problem northbound u.s. 189 past gandy boulevard. pinellas county commuters. >> yeah, people need to take it easy. maybe need extra patiences, especially along 275. and at i-4, we have fog. especially in the eastern portion of hillsborough county. but mostly into polk county at this point. and even seeing fog in sarasota. and generally it's cool but not cold like yesterday. 53 in clearwater and tampa. bradenton, you're starting the day at 48. and it's also 48 in fish hawk which is significantly warmer than yesterday, up to about 11 degrees in tampa. by the afternoon, sunny sky, light winds, a high of 70, really nice outside. in weather and traffic on the 8s at 6:38, i take you through the next eight days to see how

more breaking news this morning. a terrifying moment in the middle of the night when a truck crashes right into a carport, landing on top of two other cars. and take a look at the damage left behind at this gibsonton home. >> and just 15 minutes ago, we learned who the driver is and what he is now charged with. news channel 8s lindsey mastis is live from the scene of the alafic riverfront community. bring us up to date. >> reporter: absolutely. good morning gayle. we now have the name of the driver but before we go to that, immaterial you to look at what damage -- to that, i want you to take a look at the damage this guy did with his pickup truck. it looks incredible. i was told by a neighbor there was a shed and laundry room and several vehicles. and now the person who was driving the pickup truck, we now know is rivero ramos. look at his mug shot. he is 37 years old and he is

and i just looked at the report and it looks like he refused a breathalyzer at the scene. so we will follow this case and figure out what ends up happening. and now take a look at what this scene looked like around 3:30 when i got out here. the pickup truck went through two pillars in order to get into this carport. it landed on top of a honda accord and pushed into another honda which then push interested a black suv. all four of those vehicles had to be towed from the scene. a lot of damage. and i got to tell you, that pickup truck on top of the honda, that honda was just crushed. and the family's crushed this morning. they are very upset about what happened. i spoke with a neighbor whose dogs heard what happened. >> my dogs went off. they're my alarm system. all three went off barking and yelping. i knew something was up.

it's your vote. this morning, #demdebate is trending on twitter right here in the tampa bay area. the conversation is reacting to the debate presidential candidates hillary rodham clinton and bernie sanders. one of the heated topics included loyalty to president barack obama. they also debated taxation, health care and race relations. both said they want to reform the criminal justice system. now on the republican side, front-runner donald trump is bringing his campaign to the bay area today. >> yeah, in a few hours in fact, he will hold a rally at the university of south florida right here in tampa. and trump is coming off a huge win in the new hampshire primary tuesday. that certainly helped him gain momentum. and the business man who doesn't mince words will speak to supporters at the sun dome which can hold about 10,000 spectators. huge crowds expect there had. tickets are free. but you must have one to get in. doors open at 5:00 at the usf sun dome. the event kicks off at 7:00.

and oh, there it is, valentine's weekend so, saturday, a front comes through early, just a clouds, a little breezy, 68 saturday. and a starry evening for you, 55 degrees during the evening as temperatures fall quickly. it's going to be cool to start valentine's day but a lovely afternoon at 68. in fact, we're 68 both saturday and. and 73 monday before the best cold front and strong storms come through tuesday morning. now we will check back on traffic on the 8s because there's a lot going on. >> there is. the biggest issue entering into downtown tampa. and a lot of people use westbound i-4 and south 275, a mess. step away and come over here and check out the travel times, i-4 to 275, 13 minutes there. and looking good on the veterans expressway. that's not really the issue. the issue again is the junction bearss avenue to i-4, 23 minutes already. that's going to build even more. why? well, here's what's going on. look at the back-up here folks.

well take a look at this. stop what you're doing and you might want to change your plans this morning. this is i-275 southbound towards i-4. a big crash near the ashley exit has the traffic backed up all the way to martin luther king you can see all the brake lights there. you definitely want to avoid this. and in just a few memo, leslee lacey is going to tell you how to get around this. stay away 275 backed up from i- 4 all the way back to martin luther king. well today the pope will hold a historic meeting in cuba. pope francis will meet with the russian orthodox church patriarch. cuban president razl castro will host the meeting in havana. it's the first time a roman catholic pope and a russian orthodox pay tray ark have met

the pope's stop in havana will only last about three hours and then he is headed to mexico. and 8 is on your side in cuba once again as the u.s. considers lifting the cuban embargo. you will remember i went to cuba three times last year and now a u.s. congresswoman from the bay area is leading a delegation to havana. we are the only tv station covering this trip because we know this story matters to you. news channel 8's jeff patterson was there last year and he is back there now. >> reporter: i am jeff patterson back on the streets of havana. change is coming to cuba. congresswoman kathy castor is on her way here to see what impact political change is having on the average cuban. she will find that americans are filling up the hotel, the restaurants and bars and they are having an impacted on the cuban economy. -- an impact on the cuban economy. what do the cubans think about americans coming down in so many numbers?

this morning. adrienne, technically she's allowed to keep her position. she was cleared of the allegations so why are some board members trying to push her out? >> reporter: good morning, gayle. well the associate superintendent accused her, like you said, of sexual harassment as well as some trouble in the workplace but you know what? an investigation cleared the superintendent of these allegations. that being said, several board members here believe even after that, they still want to give her the boot. >> it's my opinion that m rs. leroy's leadership style is not appropriate for the polk county public school system. and at this time, i have lost con if i the dense in her ability to continue leading the polk county public school system. >> reporter: and he's definitely not the only one who feels that way either. but the superintendent wants to keep her job. she apologizes and claims she

suggest not getting on 275 or i- 4. take the selmon expressway. it's worth the extra dollars. bearss avenue to i-4, up to 25 minutes due to the fatal accident at the ashley ramp, folks. so here's what the situation is. before i was telling to you exit martin luther king, and then up to hillsborough. and you are backed up to bush boulevard. exit sly or bush and then take armenia back down to 275, depending on where you're going. if you're going to downtown, take nebraska. and westbound i-4 heavy as well. slow and go all the way. and they're moving around the camera but they had just had it at the crash. they are circling around here. here's what you need know as we move to pinellas county now, northbound u.s. 19 at 76 avenue north, looking better now. the lanes have been reopened. just a little delay but the junction is the big issue. again, southbound 275 right at that ashley exit. a fatal crash. the exit is completely blocked so the selmon expressway is

>> yeah, a pick up truck crashed into a carport and landed on two other cars. news channel 8's lindsey mastis has been there live all morning long. what's the latest, lindsey? >> reporter: well, gene and gayle, there's a lot of mess to clean up. we actually have one neighbor who's starting to try to help the family clean up. and i want to show you a picture of the driver of the pickup truck. the sheriff's office tells us that yordys riveroramos is charged with dui. he refused a breathalyzer test. they say he was the driver of a pickup truck that landed on a car and damage 2 other vehicles. the family this morning, really upset. gayle and gene, back to you. >> thank you. and the first of many presidential candidates will visit tampa today. republican front unrunner donald trump is holding a rally at the usf sun dome tonight.
