good wednesday morning. welcome to news channel 8 today. i'm gene ramirez. >> and i'm gayle guyardo. allison huffman, the woman accused of hitting and killing a tow truck driver on the howard franklin bridge is still behind bars this morning. she has a $750,000 bond. this is not huffman's first arrest. 8 on your side dug up her record and found four past dui arrests. and police are looking for burglars caught on camera going through a home in tampa. take a look here. the homeowners were at work at the time.
that came to them straight through their cellphones. the alarm system is disguised as a decoration on the table. you see threat. and investigators tracked -- see it there. and investigators tracked down one suspect and now they are looking for the other two. and a live look at tampa's skyline this morning. make sure you give yourself extra time for the commute. there is fog in the bay area which could mean a longer drive this morning. it was so soupy when i drove in but not for gene. >> exactly. this is extremely patchy. meaning places like downtown tampa and polk county, perfectly clear. you can see for miles. but go a few miles and you run into almost a wall of fog. that's what we're seeing between hillsborough and polk county, plant city, brandon. you can only see about a quarter mile in front of you. you can see several miles in winter haven and lakeland. and fog in pinellas county and up into pasco and hernando.
around at least through sunrise. so this is 5:30 this morning. again, still patchy but more widespread and more coverage of the fog. and here it is at 8:00, we are just starting to break it up. and between 8:00 and 9:00, we will see blue skies and it will be a gorgeous day. and it's cooler this morning, lakeland, 54. and inverness, 43. and a gorgeous, comfortable 70 with low humidity this afternoon. and now in weather and traffic on the 8s, i have an eight-day the temperature trend, but leslee is going to help you around the fog. it's patchy. we still have some in plant city and polk county, but overall, a good drive. state road 52 at driver lane east of u.s. 41, involving a patrol car but it's not tying up lanes. and let's move to the south. quick reminder, a lot of construction right now on i-75

he bonded out of jail just a few hours ago. the sheriff's office claims he planned to meet a 14-year-old got arrested. the kid once known as a college athlete and scholar now crime. and the university of tennessee other reason. it is facing a lawsuit file by a group of women. they claim the school mishandled reports of assaults by student athletes dating all the way back to 1995. and they named alumni peyton manning as part of one of the incidents in the suit. and now crowder's story is the top clicked on wfla.com right now and the top one on our mobile app. and we are working to figure out what his connection to this area is. he was here for the outback bowl at the beginning of the year. we will let you know what happens next. >> yeah, it is disappointing.

>> reporter: good morning, gayle. well, i am looking through the paper work for you this morning and looks like we're talking about mosquito surveillance as well as spraying and that's what the commissioners will be talking about around 11:15. the latest numbers in the state wide total is 21 cases of the zika virus. three of those are in the bay area. governor rick scott declared a health emergency related to the mosquito-borne illness linked to birth defects. back to the meeting today, we are expecting to get an update from a doctor, possibly some new numbers. as soon as we get that information we will let you know what it means for and you your family. gayle -- >> yeah, this is a big destination area. we don't want to scare folks away. thanks. while democrats and republicans battle over who should appoint the next supreme court justice, a special tribute to the late justice antonin scalia. this is a court tradition

leave your house and almost run into a wall of fog. just be aware of that this morning. i don't think the fog is going to last much after 8:00, 9:00. and boy are we in for a treat again today. was it yesterday afternoon? it was great. 56 at noon. 70, light breeze, low humidity around 3:00 p.m. and the even, you will need a light jacket, 61 at 7:00 p.m. and you know i am excited about this weekend, the gasparilla distance classic on saturday. hitting the roads with a 15k and the 5k early, not too cool, 55 degrees but feeling nice for the start at 65 degrees. a whole weekend of running, a half-marathon and 8k on sunday. same thing, 56 degrees when the half-marathon kicks off at 7:00. and a warm up for the 8k. two thumbs up from emoji man. and we see toward the end of the eight-day, a chill in the air.

happening today, a huge revelation in a few hours. the florida winnerses of the record-breaking $1.5 billion powerball jackpot, they are set to claim their huge prize in tallahassee. they won a third of the prize. now the ticket was bought at a publix store in melbourne beach. there were a total of three winning tickets. the other two were sold in tennessee and california. it took the florida winners 37 days to come forward. but believe it or not, some tickets are never claimed. that means winners quickly become losers. 8 on your side's ryan hughs is
