breaking news overnight, a death investigation in a quiet brandon neighborhood. we are live the scene. along the courtney campbell causeway. plus, tracking the tropics. tropical storm julia is causing problems on the northeast coast of florida. will it have an impact here? leigh spann tells us what to expect. thank you for joining us here on news channel 8 today. i'm gene ramirez. >> and i'm gayle guyardo. let's get you out the door with the tropics. >> yeah, you think tropical storm julia, what are you talking senate well, it formed at about 11:00 last night. it was an area of low pressure we were tracking yesterday.

us is pretty small. in fact, nothing really changed since it got its name. a better look shows you where the clouds and rain are. the center of circulation just moving into south georgia but nothing on the left side, nothing on the southern side. almost all of the rain on the northern side headed into south carolina. it's going to draw up extra tropical moisture for us. right now, 40 miles per hour winds. by this afternoon, it's going to be a depression and drift north through georgia and si more humid today and that's why we have a couple showers off the gulf of mexico. but not very many. western portions of manatee and sarasota county, some showers. 20% rain chances this morning. and again, this is a tropical air mass so we will get thunderstorms to develop, 30% rain chance at lunchtime. 50% rain chance by the afternoon. and the storms will push inland. in weather and traffic on the 8s, i have an hour-by-hour look at your wednesday and leslee lacey has the commute this morning because there's been some areas people really need to know about.

pasco county. construction lingering in sarasota. let's go ahead and take a look. let's start with a nice live look at downtown tampa, still snowing at great speeds and construction tying up westbound lanes university parkway underneath 75. now we also have a collision seidel road at state road 72 in sarasota county. and now moving over and looking here, remember eastbound ridge road still blocked just past airway boulevard due a fatal crash. antr college to get around that. back to gene and gayle. breaking news now in brandon where detectives are investigating a death in a quiet neighborhood. >> they're trying to figure out how a person at a home died. news channel 8's ryan hughes is live from the scene. ryan, what's the latest? >> reporter: gene and gayle, good morning to you once again. investigators have been here onscene for roughly the past six hours. we're on east camille avenue here in the brandon area.

the home. you see a number of investigators gathered there at the entry way of the home. they have been coming and going from the home all morning long, taking picture, using flashlights to poke around inside and and outside. let's go to video right now of the scene. someone called 911 from either this home or the neighborhood around 12:15 this morning. they reported that a dead person was inside and the home. and investigators are not saying how the person died. they say they have interviewed some people in connection to this case at this point. but they the stress crime scene technicians were also here a short time ago taking photos of the scene as well. another live look at the scene here in the brandon area. once we get more information as to what transpired here, we will pass it along to you gene. >> an active investigation ongoing now at 6:00 this morning and has been going for several hours. ryan hughes, we will check bah with you. more breaking news, a body found on the -- check back with you. more breaking news, a body

this happened just after midnight. dispatchers say they received a medical call to the area but so far, they are not releasing anything about the person that was found or how they died. we are working to find out more this morning. and some new information right now in this frightening crash in pasco county. take a look. state troopers are now blaming wet roads for this suv crashing into a port richey home. you can see the suv smashed right into the garage of the home. this happened on greenbrier lane. that's in subdivision. state troopers explain the suv started hydroplaning, jumped the curb and smashed into the home's garage. the homeowners were asleep inside and the home at the time. no one was hurt. right now, manatee deputies are on the hunt for the man who attacked a 16-year-old girl as she walked to her school bus stop. news channel 8's mary mcguire is live at 20th street east and 50th avenue drive east in bradenton where the teenager was thrown to the ground and

>> reporter: well, this guy is still on the loose and manatee county sheriff's deputies, they do not want to the take any chances this morning. we have seen a few out here patrolling the area where this girl was attacked yesterday morning. now this all happened around 6:00 a.m. when manatee county sheriff's deputies tell us a man approached a girl at 20th street east and 50th avenue drive east. he pulled her to the ground, tried to assault her, even threatening to choke her. but as a ca took her phone and ran off, leaving her unharmed. the girl who did not want to be identified wants fellow teens to understand that these sorts of dangers are real. >> anything can happen. at any time. and i just want them to be aware of their surroundings. >> reporter: now we do have a description of the guy that deputies are looking for. the man is about 5'7", skinny, about 25 years old. he was wearing jeans and a dark

call crime stoppers. now amazingly, this girl says that she is still going to be the taking the school bus to school this week. she is just going to have her mom accompany her on the way to the school bus. but gene and gayle, you can see how dark it is out here. and it was obviously scary for this girl. someone just popped up and assaulted her. >> so frightening. all right, thank you, mary. it's 6:06. right now, questions about dead animals found along the courtney campbell causeway. headless chickens, ducks and goats throat rot in the hot sun. -- goats left to rot in the hot sun. they were discovered on the north side of the causeway east of the boat lunch. also at the scene, some fruit, flowers and some coins. investigators explain these are all possible signs of religious offerings. a woman who fishes on the causeway claims it's happened there for years and she wants to it stop. >> i've seen dead chicken, dead

i am very against it. there's a lot of people that like to come out here and relax on the beach, fish and not see dead animals all over the beach. >> and crews removed the animals' bodies and buried them. pasco county detectives need your help finding crooks who are targeting marinas. you can see the guy creeping around a boat there. this is at j and j's bait and tackle outfitters two. investigators claim the man is one of a gang f from boats that were kept in dry storage there. in hudson, investigators believe a different group of criminals stole from source one marina. the thieves got away with several engines and even shot up two boats. take a look at this video here. this morning a warning from a tampa man who claims this mac book exploded into flames. this is home video he took of his melted laptop. you can see the computer is charred. >> battery just started

on the dining room table -- an explosion on the dining room table. the smoke started pouring out. >> that is him there describing what happened to his computer. he believes the battery is to blame. it's a replacement battery he bought at batteries plus on fletcher avenue. techs are now warning people about these type thes of replacement batteries. -- types of replacement batteries. >> you never want to buy after- market batteries for them. you're causing your phone or bomb. >> batteries plus isn't commenting on the batteries but assures us they are working with the owner to come up with a solution. let's get a check on weather and traffic on the 8s. >> well, good morning. again, we continue to track tropical storm julia recently formed at 11:00 last night. only about seven hours old. and it developed on the coast of jacksonville and it's drifting north into georgia but not going to have much of an

just drawing up some tropical moisture for us. yes, it's going to the feel muggy out there. you might get a stray shower, especially west of i-75. you can see a couple light showers and thunderstorms through manatee and sarasota county. this morning i left in a 20% rain chance around 80 at 9:00 a.m. as the day progresses, we heat the atmosphere up and we will get showers and thunderstorms to form. a 40% rain chance in the early afternoon. around 88 degrees at 4:00. and a 50% rain chance later today. so again, julia is going to slowly it's just going to linger tropical moisture around here. the rain chances near the coast this morning but more targeted toward the inland areas during the afternoon both today and tomorrow. and highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. today a 50% rain chance in the forecast but down to typical 40% rain chances for thursday, fred and the weekend. and now we will check on traffic on the 8s because people have a few things to be aware of. yeah, ridge road in pasco county. a fatal accident still working

computer and if you can't, borrow one from somebody. what? who is going to do that? according to widespread complaints on social media on tuesday, many iphone and ipad users ran into installation problems with ios 10. some got an error message asking them to plug into a pc or mac or borrow a computer for a complete restore. it was a major headache for people who installed the update in the middle of the apple apologized and asked anyone affected to connect to itunes to complete the update. if you haven't received the update on your device yet, it's a good idea to back up your data just in case. and i have posted step by step instructionses for updating on right there on -- instructions for updating on on the home page. samsung having their own issues. samsung plans to push out an

you can see -- on us is pretty small. you can see almost all of the rain is on the northern side. it's going to keep us this a tropical air mass. we had the same art project mass in place yesterday so almost no change in the forecast from yesterday to today. we do have light showers in manatee and sarasota counties. and we did have about .20 of rainfall at the hyundai of new port richey. now 76 degrees. julia, still 40 miles per hour winds but it will be a tropical south carolina and basically diminishing and become nothing by the end of the week. for us, showers near the coast at 8:00 a.m. 85 at noon. 88 at 4:00 p.m. and storms push inland during the day. right now, low to mid-70s across the area. julia heads north. we see a south to southwest wind. that's why i expect the showers along the coast northerning and more of the rain inland this afternoon. and then i bring the rain chance down to 40% for the week. and how about traffic on the 8s? all right, well, starting

going on here as i zoom in. we have a little problem spot, a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist that hit a pole eastbound ridge road past airway boulevard. they are routeing you through the pasco hernando college to get around it eastbound. westbound, not affected. meanwhile, pasco road, north of state road 5, the an accident, injuries involved. 75 looks great in and out of pasco county. that's weather and traffic on the 8s. back to gene and e. just annoying. it can be dangerous. >> the toxic elements scientists say could be floating around your home. and the seriousness of being out of shape. why not working out is like picking up a cigarette and smoking.

morning and it's tropical storm julia. it got the name at 11:00 last night. jumped right over tropical depression status and formed right on the coast of jacksonville. and now it's drifting slowly into southern georgia. but not very well defined. almost all of the rain and the thunderstorms on the eastern and northern side. where we are to the south, very dry at this point. and you can see there's the rainfall, kind of winding into charleston and south carolina. but for us, all it's really doing is drawing up tropical miles per hour winds now which is the lowest it can and still be called a tropical storm. but later today, it will be a tropical depression and it will fizzle out into georgia over the next 48 hours. again, all it's going to do for us is what the forecast was already calling for, showers and thunderstorms along the coast, light rain in the manatee and sarasota communities and that's why i left in the 20% rain chance this morning. with the amount of moisture in

thunderstorms. 40% at midday. 50% rain chance in the afternoon and evening and the storms will push inland. at 6:38, i have the eight-day temperature trend for the weekend. and leslee has your commute this morning. that's right. and more vehicles on the roadway. things are getting busier out there. but i have an update for from you the fatal crash involving a motorcyclist that hit a pole. eastbound ridge road is now back open. it was closed down completely past airway boulevard and traffic. routed through but fhp has opened all lanes and it is clear now. that is good news there. and let's flip over here now to the other side of pasco county. pasco county, an accident. i-75 looks great though. and also we've got this hole that's still in the roadway southbound macdill just past azeele. the left lane is is blocked. coming up in the next report, we will have a live look at down the town tampa. back to gene and gayle. in breaking news this morning, a death investigation

scene of a home in brandon. that's where we find news channel 8's ryan hughes live this morning. what's the latest development there? >> reporter: good morning to you gene and gayle. more than six hours later and deputies and investigators remain here at this home on here in the brandon the area. you can see a number of them standing outside right now. that has been the case all morning long. the door to the front of the home was open for an extended period of time but they have since closed it investigation inside and continues at this point. and let's go video we shot earlier from this scene. we are told by a spokesman that someone called 911 from the home or in neighborhood around 12:00 this morning. they reported a dead person inside and the home. at this point though, investigators aren't saying how that person died. they have interviewed some people in connection to the case but they tell us and stress that there's no ongoing search for a suspect right now. crime scene tech anythings have

with evidence. and back here live, you can see roughly a half dozen investigators and deputies here onscene. and we are waiting to get more information on exactly what happened here and once we get that information, we will pass it along to you from here. that's the latest from here for now. back to you, gene. >> okay, this investigation now ongoing for six hours and continues. ryan, thank you. a frightening scene in pasco county this morning after an suv crashes into a port richey home. this hap neighborhood. you can see the suv crashed through the home's garage. troop state troopers believe wet roads are to blame. they tell us that the suv hydroplaned, jumped the curb and ended up in the house no. one was hurt. and another disturbing story this morning. a body discovered on the side of the road in pinellas county. this happened near 4th avenue and 5th street north in safety harbor. dispatchers say someone made a 911 call before the body was

person's identity or how that person died. the search is on today for a man who attacked a 16-year- old girl when she was walking to her bus stop. news channel 8's mary mcguire is live where it happened near 20th street east and 50th avenue drive east in bradenton. this had to be terrifying for the teen. >> reporter: i can't imagine how scared that young girl must have been. and this morning, deputies are not taking any chances out here in man check out the video that we -- manatee county. check out the video that we took moments ago. we have seen at least three patrol cars in the area. they are making sure it's safe after yesterday a man approached a girl, told her to turn around and face him. when she didn't, the man grabbed her backpack, tackled her to the ground and told her to take her clothes off. the teen did not want to be identified but tells us that she thought that she was going

covered my mouth and he was like, shut up or i'm going to choke you. i was nervous. and i was afraid i was going to die. >> reporter: now we have a description of the guy that deputies are looking for. the man is about 5'7", skinny, about 25 years old. he was wearing jeans and a dark shirt. if you know anything about this case, please call crime stoppers. again, the girl was able to escape and return home to call for help. and deputies tell us this they'll be out here for the rest that this area is safe and hopefully that die is behind bars soon. gene and gayle. >> you know, after hearing this, parents and students have to be panicked until he is caught. thank you, mary. happening today, a controversial vote on ride sharing services in hillsborough county is now in question. the county's public transportation commission was set to vote today on new rules for services like uber and lyft. the tampa bay business journal is reporting the vote will not

however, a member of the board says that it will go on as planned. the, thetc meets this morning at 9:00. news channel 8 will be there to get answers. and happening today, the city of st. petersburg is holding another public open house on the pier district project. this is the second of three meetings hosted by the city. you are invited to head out there and offer suggestions about the pier and also the approach to the pier. today's meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. at the jw center on 22nd avenue north. a local group is offering a reward to the help find the arsonist responsible for burning the islamic center. they are offering the reward. someone set fire to the mosque but investigators don't know why. surveillance video shows a man running away from the building shortly before the fire. the mosque was once attended by orlando nightclub shooter omar mateen. the city of orlando is

victims of the pulse nightclub massacre. on monday, crews will remove the fence that's around the club. in its place, the city will install a new fence that will feature art by local residents. still, no word on when construction for the new memorial will start. of course,er we will keep you posted. now leigh spann has a look at eight. >> yeah, all eyes on newly formed tropical storm julia. formed just along the coast of jacksonville. and slowly drifting north huge impact, despite how close it is. notice it's bringing more rainfall to the charleston area. we will zoom down here and show you, we have spotty showers offshore. and with an onshore wind flow, some have snuck their way on. so we've had spotty rain through manatee and sarasota county and leaving in a small rain chance for the coast this morning. 76degrees at 7:00 a.m. we get to 80 by 9:00. and 85 at noon. afternoon high 88 degrees at

11:00 a.m. the rainfall potential is primarily west of 75. later in the day, it's going to push farther east. and there will be pockets where you could see 2 inches of rain. that's the purple color. but most of us, an inch or less. 88degrees with the high and 50% rain chance. and 90 for friday and saturday. and we will check with traffic on the 8s because i know more people are starting to leave. yeah, definitely getting busier, especially southbound 27 aaway from bearss. and now we have what does a color change mean? usually it's green but it was yellow just a moment ago. green now. eight minutes, sorting to get busier northbound on the howard frankland bridge. as well as the courtney campbell causeway. but the howard frankland bridge, this is why we're getting busier, an accident here. everything is pushed to the left. and this is northbound heading into tampa. and that's typically where it gets busier in the area. so let's go ashed go back to the maps. you can see a delay in the area.

approximately 800 people in florida have been infected with the zika virus. governor rick scott is in the nation's capitol right now asking for more money to fight

tabs on this from the tampa news center. what's happening today but also what progress has the governor already had? >> reporter: well, today he is going to meet with senate majority leader mitch mcconnell and continue to push for more money for research, prevention and a vaccine. he has allocated more than $26 million from the state to combat zika virus but the governor says that's not enough. tuesday he told congress mosquitoes don't care about party affiliation. zika virus is non- spend the money on, among other thing, 10,000 more prevention kits for pregnant women. the state already offers pregnant women free assessment at county health dishes. scott wants congress to visit miami and hold a meeting on zika virus preparedness and prevention before the end of hurricane season. last week, senate democrats blocked a $1.1 billion zika virus funning package.

provide the benefit. hillary rodham clinton is getting ready to return to the campaign trail tomorrow. she is set to attend events in north carolina. it comes after she took several days off to recover from pneumonia. today clinton will appear on a pretaped interview for the ellen degeneres show that airs here on news channel 8 at 3:00 p.m. and happening across america, disturbing video out of phoenix. three police officers struck by a car. you see the police officers standing by the and then look closely here again. the car just slams right into them. really disturbing but the most disturbing part is the city's police chief believes the driver deliberately struck the police officers. all three police officers are expected to recover. the car's driver was also hospitalized. no word yet on any charges for driver. check out the other dramatic dash cam video. the it's a burning school bus. look at the thick smoke rising. amazingly every student made it

the hero in this. driver driver explains that the bus started making noises and she smelled the smoke and saw flames shooting from it. and she was able to get the students off the bus and off to safety in an orderly fashion. no one was hurt. and investigators are now trying to figure out what caused the fire. during their daily walk to the bus stop, a 12-year-old and a neighbor noticed something unusual. they described two men dressed in all black coming toward them. so they started running. >> i started to cry when i got on the bus. >> scared. i didn't know what to do at first. >> their parents called 911. law enforcement reports similar sightings in south and north carolina where the subject was also described as wearing a clown suit. well this morning a heart warming reunion between best friends. >> yeah, involves a little boy and girl who grew up together

officially still a tropical storm but it will become a tropical depression and fizzle out between now and friday morning. and never really making it into south carolina. stays in the eastern portion of georgia. just a rain maker. we're still seeing clouds around the area. this is a look from the veterans ford looking over the veterans expressway here. you can see the cloud, 77 degrees and it is humid. it is a tropical air mass plus the wind pushed in a couple showers in manatee and sarasota counties. that's why i left in the small rain chance near the coast through the 78degrees at 8:00 a.m. spotty thunderstorms developing at noon, 85 degrees. and by 4:00 p.m., it's a better rain chance. about 50% mostly east of 75 when it's 88 degrees. and there goes julia, still bring up showers along the coast in the first hours of the day. and as the day progresses, the storms move farther and farther inland. we have tropical storm julia. in the middle of the atlantic, there's tropical storm ian, not posing a problem for anyone. and one wave off africa, about

but our weather near normal, near 90 and 40% rain chances. how about traffic on the 8s? well, i have an accident on the howard frankland bridge northbound. we have a slow down. almost looks like people trying to move over. but this is headed into tampa and it's causing a slow down here. 10 minutes across the hoc. so that's about a three minute delay from usual. this is where it's located but it will back up sooner. and westbound i-4, we've got crash. that in a second. roosevelt boulevard at 58th street, a delay eastbound due tie collision with injuries in pinellas county. and this accident westbound i-4 right before 275, that's got you slow-and-go as well. and again, the howard frankland bridge, heavy into tampa. and also taking a look here at the accident. everything is off to the shoulder but westbound is going to the take about 12 minutes through ybor city due to the right shoulder accident. that's a look at weather and traffic. back to gene and gayle. >> thank you so much.

breaking news out of hillsborough county this morning, that's where a traffic stop ended in gunfire. this happened late last night at the thonotosassa road near plant city. the sheriff's office tells us a deputy stopped a man want forked aggravated assault. when the deputies climbed out of the cruiser, the man deliberately backed into the patrol car. the deputy pulled his gun and fired at the suspect who ran from the scene. he is still on the loose this morning. the deputy is okay. we will update on you on the

the public transportation commission was set to vote today on uber and lyft service rules. however, the tampa bay business journal reports the vote will not take place as scheduled. yet, a committee member tells us that it will go on as planned. they meet at 9:00 this morning. well, tropical storm julia formed. 11:00 last night. and it's just moving into georgia at this moment. and bringing a lot more rainfall up to the south carolina area. and they're actually watching right along the coastline this morning. it's kind of a tropical air mass when you look at sun city center where it's 76 degrees. quite humid of course. so as the day progress, about a 50% rain chance by the afternoon. most of the rain will push east of 75. and then after that, julia leaves us alone and back to 40% rain chances, leslee. hello traffic. look at this, 14 minutes across the howard frankland bridge, folks. going northbound but the
