area. st. petersburg,a great dive on 275. in tampa, bearss avenue down to i-4 just a 10 minute drive. we have a collision over in manatee county. just a head's up. it's off to the side of the roadway, u.s. 19 at ken hubbard lane. a little accelerate -- activity but no lanes blocked. now back to gene and gayle. >> thank you, leslee. right now questions re main after a fire tor destroying the building and killing dozens of animals inside. investigators are trying to find out if it was illegal for the owner to keep animals in the building. news channel 8's ryan hughes is live at the scene of the fire this morning. ryan, do we know if the owner is going to get in trouble for keeping all the animals inside that warehouse? >> reporter: grade -- good morning, gayle. we checked and no word if the owner will face charges

warehouse with all those animals inside. now thick black smoke poured from the building as you can see in eagle 8 hd. i took nearly 60 firefighters to get the fire under control. they found dozens of dead animals inside, birds, cats, dogs and a monkey named ringo. the owner told us he ran an animal rescue from the warehouse kauled ed -- called tipped cat. there's no word if it is legal >> i had animals here to give them personal care. they had access to fresh air and outside. we saw them every day and everything was great. >> reporter: some good news, a neighbor told us two dogs and a few cats survived the fire. now, back here live this morning, you can see the extensive damage done to the building. we will keep you posted on the status of the investigation from here. gayle, back to you. >> gosh, so sad about all those animals. thank you, ryan. well, this morning an

pasco county deputies tell us a strange man approached an 11-year-old boy at a bus stop on mangrove drive in when wesley chapel. that man told the little boy he could is candy if he followed him into a wooded area at the end of the road. now the student took off in the other direction. he describes the man as a 20 to 30-year-old with a olive skin and hazel eyes. if you notice anything suspicious in the area contact the pasco sheriff's office. on the close call for republican vice president candidate mike pence when his campaign plane skidded off the runway. it happened last night as the plane was landing in heavy rain at new york's laguardia airport. as soon as the plane came to a stop pence walked through the plane and made sure everyone was okay and thanked the first responders. the incident is not keeping pence from campaigning today in pennsylvania and north carolina. donald trump is holding rallies in new hampshire, maine

more accusations of inappropriate comments about women. the newest accusation comes from businesswoman and shark tank star barbara corkrin. she claims trump talked about her breasting comparing them to his pregnant wife's breast. >> i was pregnant with my first child and so was his second wife. he compared them like putting his hands in the air. i was in a business meeting. i on her experiences working with trump over the years she believes the accusations of sexual misconduct brought against trump by several women. and hillary clinton is campaigning in battleground iowa today. meanwhile her running mate, senator tim kaine is campaigning here in florida. kaine will attend an early vote rally in tallahassee later this morning. president obama will campaign for clinton also in florida today. the president will be at the university of

meredith is in in news center. the concern is that drivers won't let go of their smartphones behind the wheel. >> yeah, it's those very popular apps, some that we use every day that are sited for distracted driving. the department of transportation said nationwide traffic deaths already up by 10% this year. florida among the highest on the list with a 9% jump. insurance officials say when traffic slows down due to congestion then drivers tend phones. the top five apps used by drives, number one google maps. most of us use that. also pokemon go, on drivewayed android messages, facebook and you tube. there are other factors. driving longer distances because gas prices are lower and younger drivers and lower drivers see more crashes. plus, drug use, including prescription drugs are getting the blame. traffic fatalities were declining for

last year. in 2015 there were more than 10,000 accidents distributed to distracted driving in the tampa bay area. >> alarming numbers there. thank you, meredith. now at 6:08 a check on the weather with meteorologist leigh spann. good morning. >> you know, it's been very dry over the past few days and that's certainly not only comfortable for us but it's what we expect as we head into november. november is the driest month of the year. so today i'm not rain here. hour by hour, 70 degrees at 8:00, 75 at 10:00. at time passing clouds but i think plenty of sunshine still. 80 at noon, 85 at 3:00 a.m. even 80 at 7:00. so these above-average temperatures, mid to upper 80s continue through the weekend. monday is halloween and it should be comfortable for the trick or treaters. as we head into november it continues our dry trend but also continuing our warm trend.

it's been scanning the skies and defending you from basically any rain all week long. today though we are focusing in on just some high thin clouds spreading across the region. those clouds are actually keeping us a little warmer. they trap the heat that we have during the day so it stays a few degrees warmer than it would other wise. 72 in st. petersburg right now, 69 degrees in fish hawk, 66 wimauma and plant city. all the temperatures get warmer. monday it was 61 degrees, then 64 tuesday and wednesday, yesterday we started the day at 69 and now most of us in the 70s. 85 by the afternoon, warm and breezy, a couple of clouds around. at 6:38 an 8-day temperature trend to see what happens as we trend into november. leslee is going to let you know what happening on the roads. >> it's been a great drive and still pretty good out there.

facade of the building, we are trying to figure out if the owner will face animal cruelty charges. >> a sad fate for some of those. thank you. this morning we are learning more about the five people kill in a fiery crash on martin luther king boulevard near u.s. 301. three of the victim's were on their way home from church when the crash happened. mary moreano, her daughter the teenage daughter in the middle of the picture that you see there survived but is at the hospital along with a cousin who was critically injured in the crash. relatives are just heartbroken. >> i don't wish this upon anybody at all. i mean, he's in pieces. you know, it hurts because i'm sure there's families out there who have surfed so much pain and i can only imagine how it feels to

>> eyewitnesses blame street racing. troopers confirm that speed was a factor but told us there's no evidence that anyone was racing. investigators say 22-year-old pablo cortez was traveling at a high rate of speed when he and his passenger hit the minivan head on. they too were killed. time now 6:35. right now a warning for parents as they send their children to the bus stop this morning. pasco county deputies say a man tried to lure an 11-year-old boy as this happened on mangrove drive in wesley chapel on thursday morning. now, that boy ran to his bus stop and the man went the opposite way. the man is described between 20 and 30 years of age with olive skin, dark hair and hazel eyes wearing a brown winter coat. the search is on for the gunman who shot and killed a clerk. this is from lake

the judge didn't agree and ruled against the city and now the hyatt family is moving forward with their 200,000 light display for the holidays. i put up a string of lights and sometimes in february they are still on. imagine all this stuff. hopefully you hire somebody. a crack down on costumes. the polk county school district is bans costumes and masks at high school football games tonight and monday. in the past costumes were allowed as long as they didn't cover the face. not school officials explain it's time consuming to inspect the costumes to make sure they're acceptable and don't pose a security or safety concern. well, the bulls of wire grass high school are gearing up for a big home conference game tonight on the gridiron. >> they mr. will face off against the undefeated panthers. mary mcguire is live in wesley
