it's monday, february 1st. thanks for joining us here on good day virginia.i'm kyle benjamin. and i'm january keaton. an emotional weekend in the new river valley as the investigation into 13-year-old nicole lovell's death continues.police teams spent much of sunday searching a pond at virginia tech and plan to pick that search back up this morning.they're looking for evidence in connection to lovell's abduction and murder. over the weekend, police arrested two virginia tech students in connection with lovell's death. david eisenhauer of columbia, maryland is charged with felony abduction and first degree murder.natalie keepers of laurel, maryland is accused of helping eisenhauer dispose the body. the disappearance of nicole lovell is a story we've been closely following since last week. lovell was first reported missing from her home last wednesday in the lantern ridge area of blacksburg. her body was found saturday along route 89 in surry county, north

the virginia state line. and the discovery of lovell's body shook the people who live in the quiet north carolina area of surrey county. as fox's amber roberts reports, people who live in the county, which has about 78-thousand people, say not only are they in shock, but devasted as well. family and friends are devasted about the death of lovell.the small community is in shock.as far as i feel, devasted.at the restaurant and country store, the news spreads quick.we saw the officers going by.on saturday, officers found her body in this area.two people have been arrested in her death.david eisenhauer charged with abduction and murder.natalie keepers is accused of

the two people in custody this morning-david eisenhauer and natalie keepers- are engineering students at virginia tech.fellow students say they're upset and disgusted by the allegations against two of their classmates. molly simon "i felt safe before, but to think about a little thirteen-year-old girl being hurt by someone my age is mindboggling."chris lattaman "they're not representative of the engineers this school. the engineers here and all the other students are so much better than that." virginia tech's president timothy sands wrote an open community letter on saturday, reassuring students and saying

happening today in roanoke: a new trial set to begin in the murder of waynesboro police reserve captian, kevin quick. six alleged gang members are accused of abducting and killing quick back in 2014. a federal judge in charlottesville declared a mistrial after a defendant shared a list of personal information about potential jurors. the trial is expected to last about a month. a man is in jail this morning in central virginia after leading deputies on a five county chase.police say 53- year-old michael davis refused to pull over after louisa deputies tried to pull him over.deputies them followed him into parts of albemarle, orange, and greene counties before using a spike strip to stop the car.davis faces a long list of charges including dui, felony eluding and attempting to kill a law enforcement officer. a new bill in the general assembly may make it easier for students in the commonwealth to transfer colleges and get an education.

new this morning:one of the two people in virginia to contract the mosquito-borne zika virus, is a student at william and mary in williamsburg.college officials say the student contracted the virus while traveling in central american over winter break and that the student poses no risk to others on

more trouble for roanoke's stefahno's on the market. the restaurant announced last week it was shutting its doors for good, but reopened over the weekend for a private party. during that party, roanoke police were called after a man was hit the arm with a beer bottle during a fight. crime tape was removed from around the buidling sunday. police say the man left the party with minor injuries. no word on if any charges have been filed. state police are investigating a deadly crash in pittsylvania county that killed a man from lynchburg. that crash happened around 10-30 saturday night on route 40.officials say cameron long car crossed the center line, ran off the road, lost control and overturned.police say long died at the scene.virginia state police say alcohol and speed are *not* factors in the crash. there is new information this morning on a murder-suicide in eastern virginia that left 6 people dead. police say cameron dooley killed his grandmother, parents, sister and brother before killing himself.family

with mental illness.the family believes that his forced move from his grandmother's home in chesapeake may have triggered the deadly shooting last week. some 4 legged members of the norfolk police department can do thier jobs with more protection, thanks to a generous donation! the department lost one of their police dogs earlier this month after a suspect shot him. now, his k-9 commerades have new bullet proof vests. money for the vests came from a donation made by cnn's anderson cooper. the money was raised by spikes k-9 fund. this weekend's weather made many people trade in their snow plows for shorts.in just a week's time the weather has changed dramatically. w-f-x-r's charlie cooper shows us how some people enjoyed the spring-like weather. 25-29 this is great it's like black diamond in the middle of roanoke. from black diamond slopes-- to black ice-- to black pavement all in a week's time. last week one of the most significant snow storms had people hiding indoors--i just went home early and watched some netflix.and now. it feels like the first day of

after days on the run, three dangerous fugitives are back in custody in california.dan simon reports on how they were finally caught. "i heard the police tell him to get on the ground."larry gray originally thought the man police were arresting was a homeless person, until he heard the tone of the officer's commands."'get on the ground! get on the ground!' i knew right then that that was more than a homeless person. and then i saw, kind of saw the complexion of the guy that was in, on the internet and the newspapers."that guy was 37- year-old hossein nayeri -- the one suspected of being the ringleader behind the escape. police say an unidentified tipster recognized him and the white van, linked to the prisoners."a citizen saw someone. saw something suspicious, notified an officer. and that notification ultimately led to the apprehension of two armed and dangerous suspects."the second man was 20-year-old jonathan

hiding induced the van parked in front of a whole foods grocery store. police say they also found ammunition inside the vehicle."i can say this morning that the entire state can breathe a sigh of relief because we have the other two dangerous individuals back in custody where they should be."a third escapee -- 43-year-old bac duong -- turned himself in on friday at an auto parts store in orange county.the daring and elaborate escapee took place on january 22nd. the men cut through a wall, and crawled through plumbing tunnels, making their way onto the roof of the jail. using bed sheets, they rappelled to the ground.with the men back in custody, the focus now is how they did it.late last week authorities arrested this woman, nooshfarin ravahgi, who taught english inside the jail. the orange county sheriff's department says she admitted giving materials to nayeri,

miles off the coast of france. the captain of the ship sent out a distress call late last week. the crew of 22 was rescued by helicopters. sesame street is launching a new inititative- to help military kids and their families cope with life transitions.military families are constantly re-adjusting into civilian life, and the transition can be tough for both parents and children. sesame street is now providing resources to support families through the milestones.the new initiative will help comfort families in the midst of a life changing move. "a lot of resources include video, this wonderful activity book that could be a journal as their children are making the transition and making it into an adventure. all of these resources will be available through different organizations that services both the transition military family and veterans. an alzheimer's patient in north carolina is hoping football will help him fight the disease. not by
