sherman park overnight. it was a much calmer night on the north side. there were no major reports of property damage...this after a curfew was put in place...and the park closed at 6 last night. deputies ordered people to leave the park in the evening...and an orange fence was put up around the park's perimeter. officers were on scene in riot few confrontations with angry protesters that resulted in arrests...but overall people remained peaceful. and that leads us to our team coverage this morning. officials did address the response to the park last night. our deandra corinthios has more

with angry crowds overnight. chief flynn says there were a few heated confrontations...and six arrests... an improvement ...from saturday and sunday nights. milwaukee police chief ed flynn and mayor tom barrett say the response from the faith community has played a major role in keeping the sherman park neighborhood peaceful. prayer vigils and barbecues took place ...near the bp gas station that was torched. still...milwaukee police kept a large number of foot officers available and ready for rapid de sherman park closed at 6 pm. mayor barrett says he believes the 10 pm curfew for teens is making a difference too. 21 52 15/barrett were going to have it as long as it is necessary and again initially indications are it has worked well 21 48 28/flynn we did have some confrontations with individuals that were heated we made a half a dozen arrests that seemed to have some impact but again we had folks from the

tensions within the group that had assembled within the group that had assembled sherman park closed at 6 pm...and will re open at 6 am. mayor barrett also commended the efforts of police officers...and firefighters crediting them as well for a calmer night. reporting live in milwaukee dc fox6 news officer involved shooting death of sylville smith. smith had never been convicted of a felony...but did have some trouble with the law. angelica joins us now with more. smith was charged with three felonies....and two of those involved guns. one involved a theft of 16-hundred dollars in dvd's from a south side walmart. a second felony charge came from a 2015 shooting on grant boulevard. and he got a third felony charge for allegedly tampering with a witness in the shooting case. but all three felony charges

candidate tim kaine will both be making stops in wisconsin today. trump will be holding a fundraiser in milwaukee..and then after that will be in west bend at the washington county fair grounds. a marquette university law school poll released last week showed trump trailing hillary clinton by 15 points among likely voters in wisconsin. and then democrat tim kaine will be in madison... for a private fundraiser event. tickets range anywhere from 400 dollars to 20-thousand dollars. the event begins at 5. the latest now on the severe seven people have now died in the rising waters. more than 20-thousand people have been rescued from their homes in baton rouge and 11-thousand are staying in shelters. the rain has been ongoing since friday. many have lost everything in the floodwaters. hundreds of volunteers have been filling and loading sand bags in the hopes of holding back the high water. while several rivers have crested ...more flooding could be on the way as the water moves downstream throughout the state. and in california -- authorities are accusing a 47-year-old man

for the milwaukee police department. but the community is reaching out and showing their support for the officers. m-p-d tweeted out this pic yesterday. they say "a big thank you to the community from the men and women of m-p-d for all the support, including dropping off food." and many people have been weighing in on the unrest in the city. mary wrote "thank you to all the firemen and women who put their lives on the line. kathi posted this about sherman park being closed early : "kind of sad for the act a purpose to be there enjoying it. rotten bad apples spoil it for everyone." and then amy wrote this about people who were passing out water, hugs, and cupcakes to people in the sherman park community. she says : "prayers and hugs to all the good people who have to live with this violence every day. kudos to those citizens who are helping clean up the mess and for spreading positivity in this negative time!" and if you'd like to jump in on the conversation... just like fox six on facebook and comment on one of our posts.
