you see how close the homes are. station with this photo, we've been showing it to folks and they cannot believe what they are seeing. take a look at this photo. it startled christopher out of on halloween morning. he heard screams. what he did not know was that an man wasing, 6'2" attacking a d.c. police officer. it sounds like something out of a horror film. the officer was driving through this alley off of 13th street and the suspect, dressed in a dark jumpsuit, hacked through the window, leaving the ax inches from the officer's head. one officer tells us his college is lucky to be alive. >> kids are going to be trick or treating. if this individual is running

around, that's cause for concern. 3:00 in theed at morning. the officer did not get a good look at the encounter. he wrestled him to the ground but the man got away with the officer dislocated his shoulder. >> i don't know if it is a copycat crime. >> referring to this, authorities in new york believe was a terrorist attack. police have not made any connections. >> unusual things happen on halloween and you have to have your guard up. last, the officer has been released from the hospital. this afternoon, police didn't get a tip about a home two blocks away with the suspect might have been hanging out. unitbrought out the canine . the manhunt continues. reporting live, john gonzalez, abc 7 news. >> wow. one of the fbi's most wanted men entered the courtroom this morning.

is accused of ambushing the pennsylvania state police barracks on september 13, killing one trooper and seriously injuring another. after months on the run, he was captured last night. gonzalez is live in pennsylvania with the latest. >> after not entering a pre-during his arraignment, eric frein was met by a line of people to see the man accused of causing so much fear for so long. september 2005 against a 26-year-old woman in fairfax. the charges are unrelated to the abduction charge he is facing in the hannah graham case. also unrelated to the possible deatho the abduction and of morgan harrington in 2009. the judge decided matthew will have cut offenders -- codefenders, a public defender. matthew asked for only one attorney. prefer him to be my attorney because i have built a relationship with him. the judge denied that request. judge saying he wants to move forward quickly. in two weeks, jesse not he will have another status hearing in which he is expected to be in in fairfax county. on that date, a trial date will

>> you're watching abc 7 news at noon, on your side. >> police hope news video will help catch the men involved in a assault in the district. the victim was trying to help a stranger when she was attacked. suzanne kennedy has the latest. at ae incident happened camp springs gas station. a woman asked the victim for a ride here to the 5000 block of running road southeast -- benning road southeast. two men armed with a shotgun took her into the house where she was raped for hours. look at this video. the men you see here are wanted in connection to this attack. authorities are looking for 8 people who played a role in this incident that took place october 20 third.

metropolitan police brought the victim back here last week, where she told than a group of men attacked her at around 11:00 last thursday night. residents in the neighborhood had this to say about the attack and the search for those wanted for it. >> that is really wrong. for real. your thoughts about the efforts to find the people responsible? >> i hope they do. police say if you recognize anyone in that video, given a call. or if you have information about what happened in this rowhouse, any small item of information could help lead them to those responsible. in southeast washington, suzanne kennedy, abc 7 news. on theawaii, the lava big island might be coming to a stop. officials say there is a threat to people and property. the state has sent 80 national
