happening now in old town, near powhatan park. police say they got a call about a possible shooting. and when the got to the scene on colonial avenue, they found a body. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. police are only identifying the person as a 41-year-old man. and in the district - a shooting overnight leaves one man dead. it happened around eleven last night. the victim was found on irvington street in southwest. he was taken to the hospital where he

we're also following breaking news in washington state. a tacoma neighborhood is on lockdown right now- after a police officer was shot and killed. the officer was responding to a domestic violence call when they were shot multiple times. the officer died at the hospital. police believe the suspect is still barricaded in the home. and also breaking overnight - the fourth inmate who escaped from a california jail has been recaptured. this - after a more than seven-hour standoff with police. swat teams used tear gas to draw him out. the i broke out of the jail before thanksgiving by cutting through window bars and then rapelling to the ground. the others are back in custody. a person of interest is in custody after an five hour barricade situation in upper marlboro. it all centered around this house on westphalia road. police say they got a call wednesday afternoon that someone was breaking in. when they got to the scene, they believed someone was hiding inside - forcing residents to shelter in place.

but found nothing. the person of interest was arrested elsewhere. so far, no charges have been filed. developing now.. a possible case of what montgomery county police are calling "biased-based vandalism." investigators say someone spray-painted a swastika on a car parked outside a burtonsville home. the words "trump" and "racist" were scrawled on two other family vehicles. detectives are looking into whether the homeowner's political beliefs served as a motive for the vandalism. police have not made any arrests. parents in frederick monocacy valley montessori charter school will be closed today for students because of a sewer problem. staff should still report to work. no other county schools are impacted. an annual holiday tradition happening today. president obama and the first family will host their final national christmas tree lighting on the ellipse. performers include garth brooks, kelly clarkson, james taylor and marc anthony. this is the 94th annual tree-lighting. the ceremony begins at five o'clock tonight - just in time for rush hour

we first told you about just 24 hours ago on good morning washington. five people now confirmed dead after more than a dozen tornadoes hit both alabama, mississippi, louisianna and tennesee. the twisters destoryed homes, churches, barns and knocked over tombstones. people living in the small town of rosalie alabama describe the scene as aramageddon. on the flip side- those storms bringing relief and new worry in gatlinburg tennessee, where wildfires have forced thousands to evacuate. fire crews and city leaders are now worried about possible mudslides. the death toll from the wildfire stands at seven since. investigators believe the fire may have been started by a person. but the exact source is still being investigated. no charges will be filed against the charlotte, north carolina police officer who shot a man during a standoff in

charlotte in response. prosecutors ruled the officers "acted lawfully" because they believed the victim, keith lamont scott, was armed. scott's family is still considering whether to file a civil suit. breaking news just to out north six people shot overnight in northwest baltimore -- two of the victims have died. baltimore police say the mass shooting happened last night on garrison boulevard - in the gwynn oaks neighborhood. they say the lone gunman came upon a corner and started firing at people standing outside of six people were shot police havent i-d the victims, but we know the two who were killed were both men one woman and three men were taken to the hospital.. one said to be in critical condition no suspect info has been released, but police say they are looking into reports that this is possibly an act of retaliation. starting today, a nine-officer squad will patrol the roads in fairfax county, looking for
