police. let's go to sam sweeney. he joins us live from college park with the latest on this. sam? sam: jonathan, a major investigation underway right now on the beltway that has the two lanes shut down. it could be hours before they reopen. it's creating a traffic nightmare out here. this start around 12:30 this afternoon in montgomery county. the police say there was a burglary at a check cashing location on georgia avenue. the 911 calls in with the description of the white van and the five suspects inside. the police found the van and gave chase. it ended up on the beltway. you are seeing some of the video now. that van crashed near route 1. shutting down the beltway. one of the suspects bailed out of the car and run over by a montgomery county police officer. killed as the officer made his way to the scene. four others are in custody. multiple weapons were found inside the vehicle. now tonight montgomery county police say they believe the same suspects a

for the other robberies in the area. this is how they described the m.o. >> the trend was multiple suspects would enter establishment. masked. take control. one person had a long gun. i don't know if proceeds were taken today. >> there is no estimate right now when the beltway will fully reopen here at route 1. once again, four people in custody. a suspect is dead. reporting live at the college park, state troopers barracks, sam sweeney, abc7 news. jonathan: thank you. the police are investigating whether the men involved in today's robbery and crash are these men. this is a robbery at an exxon station in september. police say those same men robbed a food truck in wheaton two months ago. we will continue to follow the investigation and

the woman told the police she was loading something in her car in the village at shirlington. that is when she said the guy came up and jumped her from behind. stephen tschida picks up the story from there. stephen: this corner between two crowded apartment buildings. the place where a man approached a woman loading packages into her car and grabbed her. >> horrific. it's really shocking. >> that is really scary. not comfortable to know at all. >> the suspect raped the woman. and then took off on foot. running down 31st street. >> it's troubling and disturbing that would happen in this close-knit community. scary to think about. somebody would be so bold to do something like that in an area where there are lots of people. >> the intersection is busy. just around the corner from the vibrant shirlington commercial center filled with restaurants, bars and shops. >> you are here and people are walking up and down the street. ok

mental health issues. michelle: new security measures are up in manhattan after tuesday's terror attack. hundreds of concrete barriers are installed along the bike path where a man used a pickup truck to run down several people killing eight of them. memorials have been placed at some of the barriers. one of the memorials put up by the group crosses for losses. that same group also placed the cross at the site of the mass shootings in las vegas and orlando. jonathan: check this out in florida. this scene sent a man in to action because he was at a home depot. the truck should not be there, obviously. the truck pulls in and it slams into the store. and that is when the driver jumps out and ran off. >> it's my duty as an american citizen not to let it happen again. i will go after this guy. i don't know whether this guy had a bomb in the car or he is going to kill somebody else. i'm not going to let you go. i am going to follow you even if you go to hell. i'm going after you. jonathan: he was a shopper and he sprinted after t

>> this is a crazy one. a crew installed $ ,000 of the surveillance cameras and he said the jeep was parked here on the street. i covered a lot of car thefts and i have never seen this. this happened after halloween. the police looking for two suspects, one in the jeep srt and the other is in the white puckup truck. they used the white pickup to use the jeep srt down 24th street northeast here. and steal the vehicle. this happened at around 5:30 in the morning wednesday. that is when the victim told me he dialed 911. he used the jeep g.p.s. to find it two miles away. take a look at this cell phone

hello. i'm scott abraham. our abc7 high school football game of the week features undefeated broad run and undefeated stonebridge. this place is nuts already. look at this. you have the dog pound, the student section are packed. you have the broad run student section. they are packed and ready to go. both are 9-0 getting ready and getting loose with a lot of implications. they know what is at stake. the head coach mickey thompson is ready for a battle with the crosstown rival. >> this is the one game that everybody, whether you are a football fan or not you will come to. so, everybody is talking about it. it's one of the games that you just set up because we are so close. it's a great game. >> you have been around the boys the whole week.
