3 all new overnight... a man was shot in the leg outside of the deaverview apartments in asheville. police say they were called to the apartments just after 11:30 last night. the victim told officers he was dropping someone off when two people wearing hoodies knocked him to the ground, took his wallet and shot him in the leg. the victim is expected to be o-k. no suspects have been identified at this time. 3 3 we have another reminder to bring in your animals during this winter weather. long-term exposure to sub-freezing temperatures impacts dogs the same way it does people. 3 21:38 a lot of people think that because they have a fur coat they are fine that is not the case a lot of times dogs or cats they still get very cold like we do. so if we're cold they're cold 21:49)3 if you see a dog or pet in the cold that you are concerned about.. call police or your local sheriff's office and ask to speak to animal control. 3 3 3 for the second time in a month, a haywood county convenience store is robbed at gunpoint. authorities are
suspects.. the most recent robbery at "galloway's country store" happened friday night... and it was all caught on camera. in that incident, one of the suspects held a gun to the clerk's head. the masked men wore hoodies and ball caps.. and demanded money from the register. "crystal smith" says she refused to put the cash in a bag... and told the robbers to do it themselves. 3 2212 "it definitely went through my head that they could've killed me, and if they're going to kill me, i'm not going to let them take me down easy, i will fight them." 2220 smith now keeps the pistol that is normally in her purse... holstered in plain sight. 3 back on december 22nd... the same store was robbed at gunpoint. in that case, the suspect showed a gun, demanded money, and then ran away. if you have any information about either crime, contact the haywood county sheriff's ofice. 3 3 also developing this morning..... police in asheville are looking for three men who robbed a jewelry store. officers say the men were wearing masks when they walked into "gold and diamond connection" at gunpoint, yesterday morning. police say the group got away with
dollars in jewelry. they were last seen in a black jeep. if you have any information... call asheville polili. 3 3 spray-paint has been removed from asheville's "vance monument." vandals spray- painted 'black lives matter' and painted a white noose above the words. so far, no arrests have been made. former asheville n-double a-c-p president, john hayes, says he's saddened by the crime. 3 12:11 the graffitti to me is ugly. it is a waste of time 3 number one a waste of resources because all they're going to do is clean it off..that's not going to change a way a person thinks or a way a person believes this is the second time someone has sprayed graffiti on the vance monument in the past year. graffiti was also found on a wall outside asheville police headquarters. 3 3 firefighters in maggie valley are trying to determine what caused a building fire. it happened just before five o'clock yesterday evening on
soco road. the fire department tells us the structure was a commercial garage with housing attached. everyone made it out safely. 3 3 3 3 3 happening today... people can learn about a multi-million dollar plan to revamp the school system in madison county. the total building plan is six-point-five million dollars. more than half of that money would go towards a brand new early college that would enroll up to 300 students. a new addition would also be built on brush creek elementary. construction on both of ose projects is scheduled to begin by early next month. 3 00:30;25-00:30;35"we already have selected architects. we've already bid the projects. we have selected contractors for the projects. so we're just ready to go once the financing and everything is done."3 improvements are also planned for each school. a public hearing on all of the projects starts at seven tonight at the madison a-b tech campus. 3 3 3 3 asheville restaurant week starts today... and we are giving away two 50 dollar gift certificates to twisted laurel
