3 happening today... how local law enforcement use body cameras will be the focus of a public meeting.. news 13's lauren brigman is live outside of the asheville police department.. lauren, when will the department start using body cameras? the asheville police department plans to implement body cameras for 60 officers as early as this summer. with that comes a policy as well. officials with the sheriff's office say this addition is one of the many reasons they chose to organize this event, now. 3 though a policy has been in place since the sheriff's office began using them last year, tonight's forum is a chance to answer questions from the public. one of the questions often asked is "who has access to this footage." officials with the buncombe sheriff's office say the only person who has access to body camera footage is the "lieutenant in the office of

internal affairs. authorities say since implementing the cameras, the sheriff's office has seen a drastic decline in complaints. but, two sheriff's deputies were recently terminated following a use of force complaint. in this case, authorities say the review of body camera footage was critical in making that decision. objective piece of material office use to decide whether or not there should be any disciplinary action or termination." 70 buncombe county sheriff's deputies are currently outfitted with body cams. they are also considering equipping school resource officers with them. buncombe county sheriff van duncan, asheville police chief tammy hooper and a local civil rights attorney are among those who will be in attendance. it will be in the highsmith union at 6 p-m, on the campus of u-n-c asheville. it is free and open to the public.

minor car accident in santa clara after the game. the california highway patrol says the governor's vehicle was hit from behind. mccrory was not seriously hurt, and left the scene in another vehicle. he released a statement overnight... saying "we were very fortunate, and while i am still proud of the carolina panthers, this puts the game in proper perspective." he also thanked the california highway patrol and e-m-s for their quick action. 3 3 3 3 a south carolina utility company says duke energy's planned upgrade at lake julian is not necessary. "columbia energy" says its facility in lexington county can generate more than 500-megawatts of power for the asheville-area. the "state utilities commission" agreed to let "columbia" intervene in consideration of duke's proposed natural gas conversion here. the commission is expected to rule by march first, whether to allow construction of the new lake julian plant. 3 3 3 today, "chipotle" will close all of its restaurants across the nation, in the wake of recent outbreaks of e-coli and norovirus. they will close for
