up to -- waking up to very large numbers. continuing to dig through rubble to find sur views. it struck the central part of the country. emma wright is live in the studio and emma you've been following this all morning. a local group even had a close call. >> the e lawn women's university basketball team was traveling to europe and staying in italy. they are okay. overnight for survivors, the hardest hit areas were small towns like we said in the central part of the country and one of the west hit towns was amatrice where they said 50 people were injured and dozens more were -- 50 people were killed and dozens more were injured. more than 1000 people have been displaced by the earthquake. and some of the rescue operations have been slow because of the remote locations
when they say they felt terrorismers. theron ab get by shaken up from the experience. >> just still kind of in shock about the whole thing and knowing that we were so close but fortunately, we were blessed to everyone being okay and nothing major happened at our hotel. >> reporter: that team is safely back in north carolina this morning. in italy however the urgent search efforts will continue into a second day. at least and two dozen hurt after an attacking at a university in afghanistan. the assault began yesterday evening with the suicide car bombing at the university's entrance in kabul. 8.5 hours later the siege ended when the police killed the two attackers. more breaking news to get to a barn full of hay and farm equipment went up in flames

governor pat mccrory kids set to get what his office is calling a major stayed wide law enforcement endorsement. types the fraternal order of police endorsed him for his second term. he also received the endorsement of the north carolina troopers association. no word on which group will endorse the governor today but a news conference set to take place in raleigh. mccrory will face general co governor nikki haley will campaign with mccrory. the two differ from house bill 2 and donald trump but hailey has publicly criticized trump while mccrory joined trump at a rally last month. cutting down on under age drinking, the north carolina abc commission launched a campaign called talk it out. they teamed up with the sheriff's office and wake and
