part of our coast is under a tropical storm warning. >> a child was found dead inside a car. they are investigating it as a suspicious dead. >> hits and kills a woman morning. >> hello and good morning. it's 4:30. >> good morning, russ. good morning to you as well. we begin with the tropics. right now high surf and dangerous rip currents prompted officials to stop swimming from part of the coast. >> let's go straight to meteorologist alyssa with all of the details. what's the storm team seeing

tropical depression. right around 8:00 this evening but we will be watching it. in the meantime here around central north carolina we're pretty much on the dry side. you can see that on our satellite radar. any rain is going to stay east of our area. let's go ahead and get to the current temperatures. 69 degrees in raleigh. still in the low 70s. we have 72 in wilmington and clinton. 74 in faev pretty comfortable right now. nearby roxboro is reporting 66 degrees. so here's a look at your forecast. we're at 71 at 8 a.m. 84 at noon and 90 for an afternoon high. looks like normal for this time of year is close to 87 degrees. we'll be back to 87 as we head towards 6:00 this evening. that will change by about thursday as we track a cold front into our area. that's going to be our big weather maker.

being released about the victim. as for those on the train, 156 people were on board. flun of them were hurt. of course, we'll let you know and continue to bring you updates as more information comes into the newsroom. >> homicide investigators are just hours into an ongoing death investigation. >> the victim is a young girl. cbs north carolina reporter emma wright live in durham. emma, what's the latest? >> reporter: neighbors tell cbs north carolina that that girl a mini van. her death may have been caused by death. we're waiting for confirmation on what happened. it appears the girl had been left inside the girl. they were called to the 1100 block of park side street around 7:00 last night. they tell us the call came in at a cardial arrest incident. when they arrived they found an unconscious person

time later. they spenten of the night going through that van where that little girl was found. we are still waiting for them to release any more information. they have put out a call to crimestoppers. they're asking anyone with information about what happened there last night to contact them. reporting live from the durham police department, i'm emma wright. we're learning more about the police-involved shooting in raleigh. police were donald ross driver. officers responded to a report of trespassing and a man with a gun. police say it quickly escalated. police say burleson was shot in the leg. >> i heard five shots.

i heard about five shots. i put my body up againsted building and i looked around the building and through the woods and in the back of the yard of the residence to us, i could see three cops with their guns poin ed and they were shooting put your weapon down. they shot then about three or four times. >> he's been interviewed by police. the fbi and raleigh police are investigating. both officers had been placed on administrative leave. >> back in court today. mike nifong it expected to testify. howard because convicted of double homicide back in 1995. a case in which he was the lead prosecutor. a judge overturned the conviction saying he made false and misleading arguments to the jury. that conviction was quickly reinstated by the court of appeals with the condition that howard be given a

little sunrise. we're not expecting a lot of cloud cover. i'm showing you the big picture. just off the coast. we do have a tropical depression that will continue to strengthen throughout the day. it will continue to be off our coast. that's where's it's going to stand. it could strengthen into a tropical storm. we've be watching closely. all of the wind, all of the rain still off our coast. so let's get straight to door. 63 in henderson. 66 in roxboro. 69 in raleigh. also the mid-60s around sanford and siler city. 72s degrees. let's get to your forecast. making plan for the day ahead. 84 add lunchtime. nice mix of sun and clouds. i'm expectingtous stay dry. 90 our afternoon high. normal for this time of year. actually closer to 87.

tropical depression right now. looks like winds around 35 miles an hour. still very disorganized. later this afternoon into the evening is when we're expecting it to strengthen. still off the coast of the outer banks. we'll be close enough to bring some high surf. maybe some dangerous rip currents certainly as well. some minor beach erosion as we're expecting the surf conditions as we head into the afternoon. it could continue to strengthen as we head workweek. we head towards wednesday and thursday. we'll get to more on the tropical storm warnings now in effect for our coast coming up in your complete storm team forecast. russ? >> it really does seem like a weekly occurrence. it runs through north carolina. once again today indiana governor and republican vice presidential nominee mike pence will hold a campaign rally. he's address supporters. tickets are required t. starts

detd. they discovered a body around 7:00 last night on hurstside street. the young girl's body was found in a mini van. it came in as a cardiac arrest incident. a deadly officer-involved shooting. officers responded to a report of a man with a gun on donald ross driver. after a chase he was s the leg. 24-year-old jaquan taylor died. accused of raping a 16-year- old. 20-year-old christian choff is charged with forceful rape. the man accused of stabbing two nones to death is in jail without bond.

depression but this morning is in effect this morning. it includes the sounds and certainly pay attention if you are heading east. if you do have folks in in a area certainly make sure they're paying attention to these forecasts as well. let's get to the track. expected to strengthen into a tropical storm. winds at 35 miles an hour. about 11mi cape hadderas. graze off the coast of north carolina before taking a more northeasterly turn. tomorrow and then pulling away from the north carolina coast all together as we head throughout our wednesday. so today, it's going to be the time frame we're going to watch into this evening and overnight. by wednesday this should not -- no longer be an issue for the north carolina coast. let's get closer to home. 69 degrees right now. this is a live picture from our tower camera. looking over the belt line.

all is pretty quiet as we do start off our tuesday. >> here's our satellite radar composite. we are dry across central north carolina out to the coast we go. that's where we're seeing some of that rain associated with this tropical depression. tropical depression 8. it's moving closer to the coast. we'll start to seat rain move onshore throughout the morning and into the afternoon. we have storm team meteorologist out there who will be bringing you live reports starting at noon today. as far as concerned. 64 in louisburg. 69 in raleigh. we do have a few areas still in the 70s. not nearly as mild though as we were yesterday morning. 72 in will wilmington. we'll be at 78 at 10 a.m. this morning. dry from start to finish. 84 at lunchtime. 90 our afternoon high. we hit 90 yesterday. still hot and humid.

to today. partly cloudy at lunchtime. partly cloudy into the afternoon. some rain on and off again with that tropical depression along the coast. it's not going to be the torrential downpours that we see with the tropical system because the rain bands aren't as organized as what we see with something a bit stronger. now as we head into our wednesday, we're going to be dry in the morning. won't be surprised if we see an isolated shower in the afternoon. i think most of us next cold front comes through on thursday. in the meantime high today of 90 in raleigh. 92 in fayetteville. we should drop into the upper 60s. partly cloudy. comfortable again. very similar to what we're dealing with this morning as we start off our day. as we head to wednesday and thursday. watch the cold front. we drop to 84 by friday.

there are now multiple confirmed zika cases in nash county. a group recently traveled to the caribbean. nobody in the group's pregnant. there's 35 confirmed zika cases in our state. lots of about the controversial move by colin kaepernick. he chose to sit during the national anthem during his preseason games. kaepernick said he's going it to take a stand and challenge authority. but he got the attention recently of law enforcement officers nationwide with some of the comments he made to the media. >> you can become a cop in six months and don't have
