experts" brad/wxwall: weather adlib: after some warming, morning sunshine, the clouds returned this afternoon to keep us a bit cooler, but we still are above average with temps in the mid to upper 30s. and it looks like the mildest weather is yet to come in our forecast! tonight will be partly cloudy with our winds calming down to less than 10 mph. temperatures will fall back into the low 20s for most areas by friday morning. we should have a mix of sun and clouds friday with southerly winds. this should help us warm up into the mid 40s for the metro. it will be even warmer saturday with upper 40s possible depending on exactly how much sunshine we get. there will be a chance for some light rain showers sunday morning with a mix possible to our north. it will still be relatively mild for late january with highs close to 40. this little system will move out quickly, so we might even see some afternoon sunshine sunday. caucus monday is looking cool and dry until the evening when there will be a chance for some light snow/rain developing ahead of a major winter storm. it looks like we will see only minor accumulations before midnight with the heaviest snow

jon: the iowa wild continue to show they can compete in the month of january. part of that has been credited to a defenseman who has seen an uptick in ice time. while he may not be putting many pucks in the back of the net-- joe finley is doing all he can to keep other teams off the scoreboard. when you scan the ice during warm ups for the iowa wild-- there's one player who stands above the rest-- joe finley. " he's a big long guy that plays against team's better lines he shuts them down he plays safe he's a physical presence for us all over the ice. he's chipped in he's had a couple of goals for us has a great shot. the last couple of weeks here he's been really hot. being good on penalty kill and stepping up physically doing some of those things. it's nice when you can add in offensively i mean i think it's par for the course as far as my game is concerned."
6:16 pm
season the 6 foot 8 blue liner wasn't seeing much ice time-- mostly because the defensive core was filled to the brim. it can be a frustrating situation for a seasoned player like finley. as things have thinned out a little bit though he has thfound his niche with this iowa squad. "joe has been well deserving. he's done a great job working on the ice and off the ice with david cundiff our assistant coach. cundy has been working with him on his footwork moving the puck quicker just keeping it simple." "over the years some of my best games come when i'm doing the simple things moving the pucks up to forwards not over complicating it. getting the pucks to the net making sure we're being physical boxing out in front of the net those things. you know and when you can put those key components together you're going to have a good game." while finley admittedly won't lead the team in goals-- he does lead the iowa wild in something very important to defensemen-- plus- minus.. finley sits with a team high plus 3 and the only player on the active roster with a plus rating. and more importantly

a category that isn't kept statistically-- blocked shots. "one of the biggest things about him is he's fearless. he'll block your shot. he's walking around with bumps and bruises on his body because he's willing to do that for his team." a team that's practically in the backyard to his home town -- edina-- minnesota. "having family friends be able to come down and watch a game here or there and i've enjoyed my time this far and look forward to more wins here." jon: meanwhile the iowa wrestling team is top ranked and ready to grapple with their rival minnesota. the hawkeyes are ranked 2nd nationally-- and a perfect 13-0 this season. the gophers however have been down a bit this year.. they're 7-6 and ranked 23rd. still coach tim brands realizes the importance of showing up big on friday night in a key big ten match. "seems like there's always fireworks but you can't count on that either i don't know how much different it is it's minnesota, our ticket requests have gotten a lot more on my end people pestering me a little bit so we're fired
