it happened on highway 169 in warren county. eric's mom and 10 year old sister were also severely injured, spending weeks in the hospital before going home. until now, the driver only faced a simple traffic citation. but tonight ... county attorneys have filed more charges. it's our big story tonight. local 5's claire powell has more. claire/bam: the warren county attorneys office has filed two more charges against the oklahoma driver who killed eric fuller and karla handy. richard hutton was originally facing failure to obey a stop sign. now, hes also facing failure to maintain control and driving on the wrong side of the road. but for the first time on camera, the two survivors and family say all they want is accountability. " " " he took a piece from me and lilly too" for the fuller's the last six months have been nothing short of a nightmare. " they had to be careful around me because i was still kind of hurting"- lill in august, an oklahoma man ran this stop sign and hit the car carrying kim fuller,

her mother karla. "he changed our lives forever. and i want him to remember for the rest of his what he did to everyone else." karla and eric didnt survive. he said he seen the stop sign but ddint think it was for him" since then,the fuller family has been tacking on thousands of miles to and from the hospital. karla goes to physical therapy weekly. lilly had her skull removed and replaced. the ten year old now acts more like five- but is all smiles. "i love you, what makes you smile. you smile a lot. because why? im still here" lil until now, the man driving the r-v only faced a simple traffic citation for not stopping at a stop sign. " there are people that do a lot less it seems like and get a lot more" now warren county attorneys are adding two more charges with enhancements for causing karla and erics death. "some accountability is better than none." the fullers don't want any more lives ruined.

patrolling the streets, nine high definition video cameras to monitor crowds and improved lighting on the streets. local businesses will join with hotel owners and others downtown, to help pay for the 220-thousand dollar plan. committee members say that cooperation is what's making this possible. "it can't just be the bar owners any more. we have to look at it, in totality and figure out how do we---what type of formula do we put together that everyone will put together that is reasonable and fair to ensure that we have a safe environment." jack: the money will pay for three years of added security. and committee members say the infrastructure is in place to add more security features as needed. stephanie: an update now on the controversy over how democrats reported results on caucus night. stephanie/ram: we've been following this since results were announced - showing a suprisingly close race between bernie sanders and hillary clinton. while the democratic party of iowa has said the results are final and clinton won by a small margin - there have been several reports of confusion at

possibly some innacurate results. local 5's chief political correspondent amanda krenz talked to the spokesperson for the idp today - to see what they're doing to address concerns. an apology from congressman steve king, for tweeting out information that perpetuated this untrue information. today, king, who is a cruz supporter, stopped by local 5 studios to respond. "i don't know why rob taylor feels like he has to insert himself in this... talked to ben carson, told him if i had known... would not have said anything." jack: a new warning is out following an ice fishing accident in leon ealier this week. jack/ots: two missouri men died after falling through thin ice it happened on little river lake in leon. investigators say the ice was so thin that rescuers couldn't stand or crawl on it. more events

being cancelled because of these dangerous ice conditions. the iowa department of natural resources has issued a list of current conditions for different bodies of water across iowa. so be sure to check that before heading out on the ice this weekend. stephanie: back here in the metro-- the snow has affected more than you drive home this week... stephanie/ram: days of limited travel has also meant low donor turn out for blood banks. that means the state's blood supply is low. life-serve blood bank normally keeps a three to five day supply of blood on hand.. but the winter storm has cut the current stash to less than two-days. to help build up supplies, donor centers around the metro will be open longer this weekend. and for the first time ever, life serve will also be open on sunday. you can find out more about scheduling an appointment on our website....we are iowa dot com. jack/1shot: how do you feel about bikes on the road? should they have the right of way over cars? at least one iowa lawmakers thinks so. senator bill dotzler is pushing what's called the

angleson, we are iowa's most accurate forecast with chief meteorologist brad edwards, and local 5 sports with sports director jon schaeffer. this is local 5 news at 6. we are iowa." stephanie: taking a look around iowa. stephanie/ram: while we didn't get hit too badly week, our friends out west sure did, making it hard for some to get their meals. wheels that turned a few more importantly brought smiles some surprised residents in meals- on wheels prepare and deliver food-- monday through friday-- for the elderly-- who are not able to often. during the

number of volunteers drop because most of them are seniors as well-- and don't feel comfortable driving. thanks to a last minute phone call-- meals on wheels were to get some surprise volunteers. "today, the national guard have stepped up because they'v heard of our urgent need for volunteers, especially in the winter, um so they're having the younger guard members delivery meals throughout the city. the parking lot is full of humvees and they are, right now grabbing their hot and cold bags to take out to the homebound seniors." stephanie: the humvees from the national guard took on 17 routes today-- with about 163 people receiving hot and cold meals. jack: february is national heart month. and today, the american heart association is hosting a red dress dash, where folks can come, put on their best red dress, and dash through the streets of uptown ankeny. registration is free and anyone can participate. jack/2shot: chief meteorologist brad edwards is live out at the red dress dash in ankeny now... stephanie/2shot: brad, how is it looking? brad:live

local 5 weather is coming up next. today's overcast skies turned into some light snow into central iowa this afternoon. accumulations are light, but it might cause some slippery spots for drivers. the snow will be moving out of here tonight , but the clouds will stick around through saturday morning. it will stay fairly mild though with temps leveling off in the mid 20s with light sw winds. saturday is going to be warmer and feel fairly nice with highs climbing into the mid and upper 30s. sunday will be mild, but also very windy. winds will be picking up to 20-30 mph and causing some blowing snow for especially northern counties

jon: welcome back sunday former cyclones linebacker a.j. klein will be trying to help the panthers win their first ever nfl title. klein was an impact player for isu-- and the same can be said for him in carolina. he's listed second on the depth chart at middle line backer behind thomas davis who broke his arm against arizona in the nfc championship. klein took some time to talk about his days at iowa state-- and how he's preparing for the biggest stage in football. "the stage of the big 12 obviously helps you gotta play against the best week in and week out in the big 12 and go back to my coaching staff paul rhoads unfortunately just got fired but i remember sending him a text after i heard the news and just thanked him for all of his hard work and dedication

" jon: meanwhile the water crisis in flint michigan continues. we talked with monte morris who is from the flint area about how his family is handling it. he says he thinks it's a situation that is getting better. " some people making it worse than probably what it is kinda. there's some areas of flint that are really bad but not the whole area. there's some situations like my mom not drinking the water nobody i know really drinking it. they got a lot of bottled water you know and other than that a lot of people gave back. you know snoop dog was there, keisha cole a lot of famous people have gone back to show support. you

water it's on its way up. it's not great. i anyone to drink it but it is what it is." and major news out of louisville today-- the university is imposing a 1 year post season ban this coming after a former female escort that a former basketball dancers to strip with recruits and players. the investigation is still on going. but the university of louisville is currently ranked 19th in the ap poll. head coach rick pitino said it's a decision that left the team in tears. "as i told them the penalty they all just stood up and started hugging trey and damien as they cried. and you know it's never easy for the people that don't deserve it. it happens all the time. this is not a team that was not going to make the tournament. this is a team that is very much favored to go far in the tournament. i've
