their positions this afternoon at the capitol on a bill opposing the governor's plan. the republicans want to maintain the same timeline to privatize the state's medicaid system, while the democrats say not privatizing will save iowans more money and provide better healthcare. "theres no point on us arguing on political ideologies about this. we need to look at exactly whats going on here and remember the patients and clients come first. " stephanie/2shot: early this evening, the bill passed out of the house committee by a 9-3 majority, which means it will go onto the senate for another vote. we'll have a full breakdown of what was said today and what to expect, coming up at local 5 news at 10. jack/2shot: and governor branstad also spoke about his medicaid privatization plans today, saying this is the best thing for iowans. "i don't threaten vetos, i've never done that, i really reserve judgement. but, i would point out, the state of iowa has worked very hard, and we have put together a thoughtful, systematic

positively public neccessity or is it against it take them into isolate, i really approach is to take them all together at the end and decide how much weight each one is entitled to in each of your deliberations" stephanie: the board said they may not make a decision this week. however, again, the meetings continue until all beginning at 1 board des moines. it, the hearings will also be live-streamed. jack: we have new details now on a police officer shot in sioux city. jack: there's an arrest. 18 year-old isaiah mothershed was arrested, accused of shooting 13-year police veteran ryan moritz. officers were called to an apartment complex sunday to investigate some robberies. after hancuffing mothershed and sitting him on the couch, police say he was able to pull a gun from in between the couch cushions, shooting officer moritz in the thigh.

saw two ambulances pull up and then i looked out the window again and it was a bunch of police cars and of course a round 3 something they starting putting up yellow tape...i just thought somebody was sick, so i didn't know anything serious might of happened" jack: mothershed also shot and wounded himself and is now at mercy medical center. no officers fired shots during the incident. mothershed's condition is unknown. officer moritz was treated and released. stephanie/ram: nothing is left of a house just south of bevington after a fire this morning. firefighters from truro, winterset, st charles all battled in the blizzard conditions. officials say no people were home at the time. however they believe some pets may have been lost inside. the windy conditions made the fire difficult to fight. "as far as damage, 100 percent loss on this one. we had such an advance with teh wind on this one, we were fighting an uphill battle the whole time " stephanie: the cause is still under investigation. and a go-fund me page has been set up for the cocks family.

towards helping the family of four to get back on their feet. jack: a manson teenager is sentenced today to 10 years in prison. 17 year-old robert simacek plead guilty to second degree robbery. in november, simacek went to the kum and go on 22nd street in fort dodge, demanding money from the clerk at gunpoint. the clerk cooperated and gave simacek 270 dollars. stephanie/1shot: good news for some central iowa community organizations. today, the altoona data center released its list of recipients for its community action grants, the data center gives more than 200 thousand dollars worth of grant money back to services that help bring technology and promote education in surrounding communities. some of the recipients include the altoona and pleasant hill public libraries and the bondurant arts and recreation department. jack: retirement homes are more popular than ever. that's because so many more people are reaching the retirement age of 65 and beyond. these communities are turning to new ways to attract folks. one community in urbandle is turning heads with this. virginia. jordan: in non hoops related news. he hasn't officially even run an event for iowa state and already thomas pollard is making headlines! saturday, the redshirt freshman won the usa track and field men's junior cross country championship in oregon, earning a spot to run for team usa!! and that's not all! the former gilbert high stand out wiill now don the stars and stripes in the junior division of the apa panamaerican cross country cup on march 5th in venezuela! pollard redshirted this past fall for clearly hasn't missed a beat. you can bet dad pollard is one happy poppa! stephanie/sx3s jack/sx3s back... you're five news at six.
