brutality protest. >> good morning, it's 5:30 on this wednesday december 10. let's go right over to meteorologist, david murphy for accuweather and matt pelman is in for karen rogers for traffic. good morning. >> issues in the poconos over the next 24 hours, guys. we have a winter weather advisory posted through today, tonight and into the wee hours of thursday morning where another two to 4-inches of snow possible. traveling up north over the next 24 hours, keep that in mind. around here in the a whole lot going on. we've got sunshine early, clouds building later on. do you see some precipitation trying to pinwheel into pennsylvania out of new york state and it's possible that as we get later into the day we see a passing rain or snow shower trying to come down out of the poconos. that would not be out of the question today. 42 degrees in philadelphia, 40 in allentown, 40 degrees right now in reading, 40 in millville, 40 in sea isle so very even numbers. there is a bit of a breeze blowing so it feels cooler than that 40 would otherwise suggest f you're dressing the kids i'm dressing them relatively warming.
this afternoon it will be windy blustery and still on the chilly side. as we head to school kids we're halfway there. around lunchtime you're halfway there. you know what i mean. 42 degrees on the storm tracker 6 app on your smartphone. 39 by 8 o'clock and by noon up to 41. again your high today is going to be that 42. i think we'll hit that probably around 2 o'clock and then by 3 o'clock back down to 41 and by 6 o'clock, 37 degrees back into the 30's. looks like a couple of breezy days, a little more precip on the way over the next 48 hours matt and then things get better for the weekend. details coming from accuweather. >> halfway there. we like that. good progress. i think progress is going to be relatively quick at least quicker than yesterday on your way into work this morning. the roads are drying out, the traffic is light so far. this is a live look at the vine street expressway where all is fine on the vine as you head eastbound toward 95. no problems so far this morning. on 95 itself and the schuylkill things are looking good. there was a crash overnight involving a vehicle into a building in upper darby. marshall road westbound is what's affected just west of friends cemetery. i think i would stay on market
or walnut streets instead of marshall road this morning and balligomingo road still closed in west conshohocken because of that mudslide after the weather yesterday. shut down between jones road and 23, front street. 320 or matsonford road are alternates around that. no issues so far this morning on the pennsylvania turnpike or the blue route. but over in greenwich township gloucester county a new broken down truck along 295 northbound at swedesboro roadblocking the acceleration lane there but you can get by at this point. no huge delays on this wednesday morning. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. and this is breaking right now, a drexel university student has been stabbed overnight. erin o'hearn is live at the big board. she's got breaking details. >> good morning. this is just coming into "action news." a drexel university student was apparently stabbed and rushed to the hospital. let's take a look at some live video right now of the scene. you can see it's still pretty active there with those lights flashing in the background and that crime scene tape up. this happened around 3:30 this morning on the 3300 block of
race street and that's in the university section of philadelphia. according to police, the student was involved in a fight with two other students. that's when he was stabbed in the back. he was rushed to the hospital of the university of pennsylvania. we understand he is in fair condition at the moment. it happened near myers hall on campus. drexel university police responded and are questioning two people at this time. again, according to police, a drexel student was stabbed in the back during a fight around 3:30 this morning in university city. he's in fair condition in the hospital of. of course we'll keep you updated on his condition and any suspects officers may name. matt, back to you. >> thanks so much for that, erin. the philadelphia fire department will go about its business today protecting life and property even though each member is deeply saddened about losing their first female firefighter in the line of duty. "action news" reporter katherine scott was at engine 64 in lawncrest this morning where joyce craig-lewis was
stationed. >> just always wanted to save lives. that's what she wanted to document words from the sister-in-law of 36-year-old joyce craig-lewis an 11 year veteran of the philadelphia fire department, a mother of two and last night, a vigil was held to remember her outside engine 64 in lawncrest. the first female firefighter in the department to die in the line of duty. >> she was known for going the extra mile and wandering to make sure smoke detectors was in the less fortunate houses to make sure they had a chance should anything happen. >> reporter: craig-lewis was assigned to engine 64 but had been working overtime at engine 73 when firefighters responded to their blaze in west oak lane. she became trapped in the basement of the burning row home. craig-lewis leaves behind a 16-year-old son and a 16 month old today. her locker now a memorial, her dedication remembered by those she served. >> i live across the street and it's just sad, you know. she has little ones and she gave her life for her job. >> reporter: katherine scott, channel6 "action news."
>> our coverage of joyce craig-lewis continues on 6abc.com. we have been updating the story constantly with new information. you can watch video of yesterday's procession and the news conference following the deadly blaze. >> we have new tragic developments on a crash in sicklerville, camden county. police now say 25-year-old albert baldwin was killed after losing control and crashing into another vehicle. this happened around 3:30 yesterday afternoon on cross keys road outside of winslow plaza. police say baldwin's vehicle overturned and he was partially ejected. the investigation is ongoing. anybody with any information is asked to call winslow township police. >> 5:35 now and happening today, the philadelphia school district and the teachers union will go to court to argue over whether the district has a right to cancel a teachers' contract. thousands of teachers marched in protest back in october right after the school reform commission canceled the contract. the district now requires teachers to contribute to their health coverage. the move saved the district
$54 million this year. the union argues the src's move is illegal. the court hearing will take place in harrisburg this morning. and also happening today, a special wilt chamberlain postage stamp dedication ceremony will take place at overbrook high school where chamberlain led a spectacular basketball career. the nba hall of famer was immortalized on two forever stamps at the sixers-oklahoma city thunder game last week. the ceremony at overbrook is free and open to the public. the stamps are available at the post office. you can put the big dip on your letters. >> i like the way they're kind of tall thin stamps. >> they would have to be. >> no kidding. storm tracker 6 live double scan this morning shows you we're dry for a change which is nice after yesterday. as we take a look outside we have sky 6 looking down at the airport and the parking lot there in the four ground looks dry. we had a lot of wind overnight, very little precipitation so your roads are in pretty good shape. temperature 42 degrees. it is on the cool side
particularly when you factor in the wind at 16 miles per hour. we're going to get another blustery wind today probably gusts up to 20 to 30 miles per hour so despite the fact that temperatures are in the low 40's it's a bundler for the most part. 16 miles per hour wind in philadelphia, 18 allentown, 16 wilmington, 10 at the airport in atlantic city. everybody dealing with a bit of a breeze this morning. future tracker 6 shows you how we'll probably see some sunshine early and then as we get up to lunchtime the clouds start to get a little thicker and wrapping down out of the north there is the possibility of a rain or even a snow shower. most of the snow will be up in the poconos initially and then later this afternoon it's possible that the air is cool enough where we start to get some light snow showers in south of allentown and reading and maybe in a little bit closer to the i-95 corridor. this doesn't look like a real big deal but if you get caught in one of these and you start to see anything sticking to the roads slow down just in case. not expecting this to have a wide ranging impact or much of an impact for most of you. by 10 o'clock tonight it's possible this is dying down a bit but you can also check out melissa magee and cecily tynan
beginning at 10 o'clock on channel 17 or here at 6abc at 11:00 for the latest on that. 39 degrees by 8 o'clock today, 41 by 11 o'clock. i'm going to go with a high of 42 around 2 o'clock. then we'll slip back into the upper 30's by 5 o'clock. cooler than that up north where those snow showers may be forming. high temperatures across the region only 39 trees in allentown, similar conditions in philadelphia. actually that's a 42 in philadelphia and then down toward the shore, 46 in cape may. little bit milder at the shore today. tomorrow starting at 4:30 when we're on the air there's going to be snow in the poconos, maybe a snow shower trying to dig down closer to the lehigh valley later in the morning. by 9 o'clock, could see a couple of these during the morning rush hour. again, it doesn't look like it's going to have major impact but you slow down just in case and of course we'll be on the air to let you know what that looks like and then by 3 o'clock in the afternoon a rain shower down by philadelphia, another snow shower possible up north and later in the evening it all kind of pinwheels out of here. so tomorrow more rain and snow showers, the snow showers mainly up in the poconos and perhaps down toward the lehigh
valley for a time. windy with a shower today, 42 degrees is your high. the farther north you go the better chance you have of seeing a little snowflake here or there. and then tomorrow breezy with a couple of rain or snow showers around and a high of just 39 degrees. it's going to be breezy again tomorrow and then friday clouds and sun, still on the breezy side and a high of 42. we get into the weekend and we inch back up to 44 on saturday, partly sunny. i'm hoping it isn't quite as brisk and then sunday mostly sunny and 46 degrees. more seasonable for your high. it will be chilly for the eagles game. i could see us getting down any other upper 30's so bundle up if you're head to the game. monday still bright 48 and hanukkah arrives on tuesday, 48 degrees. that monday is looking good to me for maybe putting up some christmas lights. >> okay. >> 'cause it's a little milder, right. >> i'll be right over. [laughter] >> thanks, matt. stand inside and hand you 5:39. when we come back two bandits make off with a stash of collectibles in bucks county
but not before they were caught on surveillance camera. >> celebrating the holidays in philadelphia. fyi philly takes a look inside place that's packed with fun for the whole family. >> looks like a good time. pretty good ride so far this morning in holmesburg along state road at ashburner street. 95 in the background is also moving along nicely. we'll check a broken down truck in gloucester county and a construction zone in new castle county. >> who might win times person of the year. candidates when "action news" continues.
>> ♪ >> 5:42. it's 41 degrees on city avenue the platt memorial bridge getting busy. only getting up to 42 today. >> also getting busy, matt pelman. he's got a lot of things to show you. good morning. >> it's about that time of the morning. good morning to you tam. one of the reasons we love living in this city is the culture here in philadelphia and so we're on the avenue of the arts with mobile6. looking pretty good this morning as we head northbound on south broad street. you might be able to see the clock tower there at city hall in the distance, that little yellow light guiding our way. the roadway drying out. things are looking good here along south broad street in either direction as you travel towards city hall this morning. now we travel to the burbs and do the suburban traffic report early on this hump day morning. this is 202 in chester county. we had overnight work zones this week around paoli pike and again here near route 29 but at this point the overnight crews are out of the way and we're looking good with no delays in either direction. one problem that we have in west conshohocken as a result of a mudslide yesterday.
still closing off balligomingo road between jones road and 23. you can use 320 or maybe matsonford road to get around that. broken down truck in greenwich township gloucester county is now gone along 295 northbound all lanes opened, no issues there, speeds in the mid 60's. commodore barry bridge looks fine headed over towards delaware county. in delaware new castle county little clarification am i did some digging to get details on exactly what's closed. it's the ramp from the southbound lanes of 95 to 202 southbound. closed through tuesday. so, they're saying you can go to 202 northbound thin flip around. i think the easier thing will be to exit at marsh road, take that down to 13 or keep going down to delaware avenue and then run that over to 13 instead. that ramp again 95 south on the 202 southbound shut down through tuesday. time for the commuter report. let's go into delaware county one of our friends using the waze app talking about a vehicle broke down on the shoulder along the blue route 476 southbound side us a travel there toward the route 1 media bypass but it's off to the side so no big delays at this point.
