firefighters were called to the scene at 4:45 this afternoon. the blaze is spreading along the roof line. at this time there are no reports of injuries. of course we'll have the latest on this blaze throughout the evening on "action news" at 11:00 and always at now to the severe weather that is approaching the area tonight and that includes tornado watches currently in effect. this is storm tracker six live and storms are moving west to east. tornado watches are in effect for almost all of southeastern pennsylvania. meteorologist cecily tynan is live at the "action news" big board. cecily, what's the latest from accuweather. >> and jim, the leading edge of a real nasty line of storms is moving into our far northwest viewing area and you can see how that line extends all the way into central pennsylvania and it's moving pretty slowly. association this is going to be a threat not only tonight but even into the morning hours for parts of our viewing area. the national weather service has just issued a severe

thunderstorm warning until 6: 6:15 for northern berks county including kutztown hamburg and eastern lancaster county -- eastern lehigh county i should say including new tripoli and areas just west of allentown. i want to show you this storm zoomed in. we had 40 lightning strikes in the past 15 minutes. it's moving east again at 25 miles per hour, so it's closing down in kutztown right now, dryville, new jerusalem top ton clauseville and fogelsville in the path of this storm. if you're in this area you're hearing the thunder get inside right away. not only do we have very heavy rain, this shows the hail and we had reports of hail up to about an inch and a half in diameter. that's about the size of a half dollar so that can really cause some damage. in addition to that tornado watch has been posted for lancaster county, for chester county, for bucks county, for berks county and for montgomery county, really all of the areas just west of

i-95. this means that any of these storms could spawn a super cell that could produce an isolated tornado. i'll talk more about this in the full accuweather forecast. jim. >> all right, cecily. and of course you can counter on when severe weather strikes. live storm tracker six radar is there along with any weather watches and warnings for the area and as we now know, there are tornado watches for much of the area. police have made an arrest in the murder of a man found stuffed inside a suitcase in tinicum township last month. police arrested 25-year-old thomas brennan of philadelphia and charged him with the murder of 41-year-old scott bernheisel. a man walking his dog discovered the suitcase containing bernheisel's body. autopsy revealed he died of blunt force injuries and multiple stab wounds. police in pennsville this morning located the vehicle they believe was involved in a hit and run yesterday and then

this afternoon the driver of the car confessed. a 17-year-old boy was struck and critically injured overnight on hook road near lee avenue. "action news" reporter david henry is live at pennsville police tonight and david you've got the details. >> reporter: yeah, jim pennsville police had been getting a lot of tips but in the end it was good old fashioned police work that led to the car and the suspect. 23-year-old zachary mcdonough turned himself in this afternoon. it was just hours after police say they found his heavily damaged car hidden under a car cover behind his apartment house. mcdonough had nothing to say as police led him to a jail cell after what they described as a full videotaped confession. >> he thought he hit an animal of course which we talked about earlier and then he saw fire trucks and things going by the apartment and that's when he got scared and didn't know what to to. >> tearing everybody apart. the whole community is in shock. >> reporter: the accident happened around 1:15 sunday

morning. kyle pszenny was skateboarding home when he was hit from behind. the car just kept going. hours after the accident police got a report of a stolen car cover and an officer on patrol this morning spotted this car under a cover behind mcdonough's apartment house. the car has heavy front end damage. police say it's a match for the car parts they recovered at the scene. kyle pszenny is a wide receiver on the pennsville memorial high school football team. this classmates all wore blue today to show their support. that includes the team captain. >> law a tough kid. he was a really good athlete were you ever our best players. every game, every practice he always had a positive attitude was always helping picking everybody up. >> reporter: friends say kyle is showing signs of improvement after brain surgery yesterday. his supporters are relieved police now have the driver who allegedly ran him down. now they're just focusing on kyle's recovery. >> i love the kid to death he's like a best friend to me, the brother i never had. been words about him ever

since the incident happened and i'm praying he makes a speedy recovery in the hospital. >> reporter: police say mcdonough admits he had been out drinking before the accident but it's too late to prove that so now he's charged with aggravated assault leaving the scene and failure to report an accident and police say others may have been in the car with mcdonough and they, too, could be facing charges. live in pennsville, david henry, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, david. and philadelphia police are awaiting toxicology results on the driving a caused of hitting and killing a 17-year-old student last night. the incident happened at 7:15 in the 600 block of west cayuga street in hunting park. adelso adeiry matos was riding his bike when he was hit by a car. witnesses told police the driver ran a stop sign just before the deadly collision. police have arrested the man wanted for breaking into two south philadelphia homes. 32-year-old raheem felder has been formally charged with the rape of one woman and the

attempted sexual assault of another. the most recent attack happened memorial day on south rosewood street, the other on march 26th on chadwick street. an anonymous tip led to felder's arrest. newly released surveillance video shows a robber firing his gun inside a bank of america in plymouth meeting. the robber was fleeing with cash when he turned and fired a shot toward the teller windows. nobody was hurt during the holdup on june 3rd. the suspect bleached to be in his 40's drove away from the bank in a black vehicle. police now say they do not believe he is the same man who robbed a wells fargo in bryn mawr last month. penn state university has vehemently denied the claims of a young whistle-blower. he insists that the university ignored his complaints about alleged sexual assault hazing and drug use at the kappa delta rho fraternity which is now under suspension. pradelli is live in center city philadelphia. clad, whatever the truth is here, penn state again has to deal with some very unwelcome publicity. >> reporter: yes jim the former student and his attorney paint a culture of booze drugs and hazing but penn state is denying those claims saying he and his family are partly to blame. >> i'm no hero and i'm certainly no martyr but i doubly that penn state can and must do much more and can do it candidly to stop hazing and sexual violence and should commit to lead by example. >> reporter: former penn state student james vivenzio claims he was burned with cigarettes, punched in the face and forced to drink urine while pledging at the kappa delta rho fraternity in 2014. >> they left me no choice but to go to the police before more people pledges and other innocent students got hurt physically and emotionally.

>> reporter: he claims he uncovered a private facebook page of kdr members and alumni that allegedly showed students naked and at least one woman being sexually assaulted. >> these were images that were sent around, were commented on were laughed about. >> reporter: vivenzio and his attorney indicate penn state did not enforce its rules and regulations when he called the hotline and went to the officers of student conduct. the hazing continued and vivenzio wanted answers. but penn state released a statement today saying he and his family are partly to blame. it read in part neither he nor his family were willing to file a complaint, provide documentation, speak with state college police or participate in pursuing a formal disciplinary process available to them. despite repeated encouragement from university staff. and kdr's national organization had no comment but last week it did expel 38

members and shut down penn state's chapter for three years. live in center city, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, chad. today state representative michelle brownlie pleaded guilty in a cash for favors corruption investigation. she is the fourth philadelphia democrat to plead guilty in this case. brownlie was accused of accepting $2,000 from an undercover officer. she resigned her seat immediately but will likely keep her pension. classes will go on as scheduled tomorrow after a fire closed ben franklin high school today. the blaze started at 9:30 this morning in a science lab at the school on north broad street in spring garden. school officials decided to close the school for the rest of the day. investigators are still working to figure out what sparked the blaze. coming up on "action news" tonight, city council considers a bill to add surveillance cameras around philadelphia. ahead, the businesses that would be required to install the cameras. and it's an honor seven

>> philadelphia city council is considering a new bill that would require bar and restaurant owners to install surveillance cameras outside their businesses. the bill is in response to the

death of shane montgomery. the 21-year-old went missing early thanksgiving morning after leaving a bar in manayunk. his body wasn't found until january in the schuylkill river. supporters including shane's family were at the hearing today and say surveillance cameras would have shortened the time it took to find him. they also say cameras would help reduce crime. >> ♪♪ >> a world two veteran from springfield delaware county has finally received a recognition he has so long deserved. to say it was a poignant moment is an understatement. "action news" reporter katherine scott has the story. >> one of the best days of my life. >> reporter: a day 90-year-old richard euler of springfield has been waiting 71 years for. today this purple heart was pinned to his chest at a ceremony at the pennsylvania veterans museum in media. he also earned a bronze star which he didn't even know he qualified for. >> i'm no hero. i'm a survivor. i'm not a hero.

>> reporter: euler was part of the 45th infantry division in 1944. he never spoke much that day in italy even to his daughter beth england who knew he was injured. >> he was own there will for two hours and he was in a dried up creek bed and he said then it just went nuts and they were being bombed and the man next to him was killed and he was wounded and then everybody started yelling medic, meds dick. >> reporter: euler woke unin the hospital injured by shrapnel. he earned a series of medals but could never find enough evidence for the purple heart. >> likely of the other veterans who served in world war ii, records were lost during a fire in the 1970's. it's very difficult often to get the verification. >> reporter: but this red cross letter was the key. he had written it from the hospital and it just recently turned up. it unearthed an id number and with the assistance of congressman patrick meehan's officers the number was traced back to hospital records.

township mercer county new jersey. this is video that is just in from our "action news" crew on the ground. it shows the fire burning through the roof. it's the 1700 block of east state street. eight homes are now involved. officials tell us that roofers were working on the roof of one of the homes. they sparked the blaze and the flames just spread across the roof line and this is a live picture now from chopper six and you can see that this fire is nowhere near being brought under control. flames still bursting through the roof of one of the homes. this we can say and it's the only good news we can get out of this story there have been no injuries reported to this point. we look for updates on and we'll be back in just a moment.

>> we have some difficult weather which is moving west to east and we've got to be alert. >> yes, exactly. far northwest suburbs right now really under the gun. storm tracker six live double scan showing philadelphia we've got bright sunshine but you can see that line of thunderstorms really arcing from the northwest suburbs and the national weather service has really extended this thunderstorm warning parts of berks, bucks lehigh, northampton county until 7:15. i want to show you this particular cell on double scan live zoomed in. it's right over macungie right now moving east. it's moving actually pretty quickly at 40 miles per hour. when you see that arcing, that's an indication of strong winds. we've also had reports of hail up to about a half dollar size right over macungie right now just south of 222 so that

shows the track, old scienceville allentown, lime port, you're all in the path of this storm and it is a dangerous storm. you hear the thunder, if you're in the path of the storm you want to get inside immediately. in addition, we have a severe thunderstorm warning also posted for lancaster county. this is until 7:30 tonight and this is for a storm that's moving southeast at 35 miles an hour. it's moving through elizabethtown right now it's right across 283 so it will be moving into lancaster by about 6:40 tonight so this, again is another severe storm. get inside if you hear that thunder and this is the leading edge of a system that will be pulling through very, very slowly. so a tornado watch has been posted until 10 o'clock for really all of southeastern pennsylvania, our viewing area except for philadelphia and delaware county. now, this is a watch, not a warning. a watch means you have to be aware that conditions are

favorable that any of these storms could have a super cell that could spawn an isolated tornado. a warning if s when you have to take cover. if there's a warning we'll break into program and let you know. warm and humid, fuel for storms, philadelphia 84 degrees down from a high of 86. wilmington 82. reading a rain cooled 68 degrees. down the shore with winds offer the ocean it's a lot cooler, temperatures in the 60's so the storms really will weaken as we move east of i-95 as they undery encounter that cooler air. satellite6 along with action radar again you can see this is the leading edge. there's a lost activity out to the west with a cold front and that front really will not be moving through completely until late tomorrow. so, future tracker showing 8 o'clock really the activity continuing to be north and west of philadelphia. around 11 o'clock a pretty good squall line over 95 and then it begins to break up around 2 o'clock in the morning but it's not quite over yet. by the morning commute we'll likely see some more isolated activity could really cause a

damper for your morning commute and then by the afternoon, some spotty showers likely not as widespread, severe weather tomorrow afternoon as this evening. so, this is what to expect this evening. the northwest suburbs really under the gun with damaging winds, hail and the potential for an isolated tornado. i-95 and southeast the air is cooler. by the time the storms get here it will be after the sunset but still the potential for isolated downpours and some gusty winds 40 to 50 miles per hour, so these storms mean business. so the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, still unsettled tomorrow with some showers and thunderstorms. 86 degrees. on wednesday just as warm behind that front, 86 but less humid but don't get used to it. on thursday, it's muggy it's hot, 92 degrees. could have late day thunderstorm. we do it again on friday. saturday it stays warm, 89 degrees with some thunderstorms and sunday looking a little bit better, a little bit more comfortable partly sunny, 84. and then monday clouds and sun

breaking news tonight. in the man hunt for two escaped killers across state lines, and police now show up at a woman's home. the power tools, the plan crawling their way through pipes up through a manhole, and now investigators have interviewed this woman who worked at the prison. did they have help. and breaking now, the t.b. scare. a female patient with an extreme form of tuberculosis raced to the national institutes of health looking for hundreds who may have come in connect with her. excessive force? an officer throwing aa teenage girl to the ground and pulling out his gun. severe storms. from the d.c. area all the way up to new york the massive fire erupting at a chemical plant, families urged to stay indoors.
