turning up the heat in the next couple of days. >> reporter: it is the last morning of august, my goodness why can't january and february go this quickly. a lot of people heading back to school and back to work after the weekend. we're seeing building volume southbound lanes of i-95 entering the work zone and father south entering the work season at girard. at this point delays are not too bad along i-95. this is the schuylkill expressway our beloved schuylkill expressway by spring garden street. so far so good hear, as -- heres well. they are closing the ramps that connect to spring garden this week. northeast extension southbound near lansdale and mid county, same place where we had a disabled vehicle, now it's a crash taking out the lane south of the lansdale interchange. expect slowing coming from

lansdale. we had construction in langhorne that was closing big oak road is open and ready for you this morning. work closed the ramp from the black horse southbound to 295 southbound all weekend long in belmawr, that too, is back in business for this monday morning. tam. >> thank you, matt. this morning a man is awaiting formal charges police say he hit a man on motorcycle and fled the scene. the man he killed was an off-duty police officer. katherine scott is live with the details. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam, the 58-year-old philadelphia man remains in police custody. he has not been formally charged yet and police believe he was under the influence when i hit an off-duty officer who was on the motorcycle and fled the scene. >> fortunately we would witnesses. >> reporter: witnesses who helped police track down a driver who collided with an off-duty police officer on the

motorcycle. lamar poole was assigned to the 12th district a husband and father. >> lamar poole is an 18 year veteran of the 1th district and survived by his wife and seven kids. >> reporter: the accidents happened at 4:00 p.m. at residential -- roosevelt boulevard and detective -- deavereau, the driver got out of the car and took off. the 58-year-old driver was stopped less than a mile from the crash site. pool was the second police officer to die in an off-duty crash in days. rafael ali died when he lost control of his pick up truck. >> this is the time we gather together and support each other the most. >> reporter: live at the 12th district where officers are mourning the loss of officer lamar poole.

the other driver is in custody, but has not been formally charged yet. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> this is new video just in from the a house fire in kensington section. crews knocked down hot spots on the roof. nobody was home when the fire broke out at 4:00 a.m. the fire marshal is investigating the cause. a ridley fashion police officer is recovered at home after being shot twice on the job. he responded to a call for a suicidal man yesterday morning at an apartment complex in norwood. he and his partner tried talking to darrell berk, but berk opened fire, the hanley was hit twice once in the chest and once in the leg. >> to be hit twice, and to be standing here talking, somebody was looking out for me. >> berk was hit by return fire

he faces arraignment. a 25-year-old female prisoner was brought to a hospital after complaining of bruising and said she was pregnant. it's not confirmed she was pregnant. she was arrested for petty larceny. the woman was last seen wearing a hospital gown. a new poll is making headlines. the numbers show the race between the democratic candidates is getting closer. des moines register bloomberg politics iowa poll bernie sanders is gaining on clinton. clfnt -- clinton is 37%, he is 30%. signage will be throughout city as part of the i'll be

trenton new jersey spread to the home next-door it broke out on wood street at 2:00 a.m. firefighters brought it under control in half-hour. we're learning about a hit and run crash that killed an off-duty police officer in philadelphia. katherine scott is live outside the 12 district headquarters where the officer worked. >> reporter: matt here at the 12th district, officers are grieving the loss of lamar poole an 18 year veteran of the philadelphia police department a husband and father of seven. a police motorcade escorted the body of 42 officer lamar poole from the hospital to the medical examiner's office. the 12 district officer was off-duty when he was killed after his motorcycle and toyota collided at the boulevard and deavereau. >> according to witnesses right after the crash, he gets out for

one minute sees what happens and gets back in the car and goes north on the boulevard. but police say a tow truck driver followed the toyota and called police, the car was stopped less than a mile from the crash site. police believe the 58-year-old driver was under the influence. >> you're so cavalier about life, how can you do that, you had the accident deal with the consequences, don't walk away from somebody who was fatally wounded in this case. >> reporter: that 58-year-old man remains in custody. so far he has not been formally charged. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> thank you for that. and a teenager is being questioned in connection with the deadly hit-and-run in south jersey. the 69-year-old victim took a cab to a diner in vineland. when he realized the restaurant was closed he decided to walk home. a pick up truck struck and

killed the man. the teen who was driving told his father he thought he hit a deer. a man made his way into a secure hallway at newark liberty airport. that led to an evacuation. that man is getting a psychiatric valuation. he used an exit door to enter a secure area around 7:00 p.m. he did have a ticket for a flight, but he came in unscreened through the exit rather than going through the usual procedures. tsa officers gave chase. witnesses say the man got down on the ground when a custom's agent pointed a gun at him. >> as he was marched out of the terminal he had a silly grin laughing to himself as the officers walked him out. >> officials checked out the entire terminal during the ordeal. they did a security sweep with k-9s, it reopened at 9:30. police stopped james smith of west lawn on friday after he was spotted questioning several

people. according to court documents smith told officers he was looking for a man on the federal most wanted list. when asked for i had i.d. he gave a card with the name james sniper with a homeland security badge. they contacted the federal agency and were told he was an imposter. >> the hurricane is weakening as it heads toward hawaii. the category three hurricane could be downgraded to a tropical storm. the islands get ready for high winds and heavy rains and ocean swells. people in florida have not seen the last of tropical storm erica. it will target florida and other southern states with flooding and heavy downpours. florida has recorded the wettest august in state history. residents in tampa are stocking up on sandbags.

the search for the purpose of the culprits behind the bombing of the shrine in thailand. police released a photo of a thai woman along with a sketch of a foreigner who could be linked to the attack. officials found detonators in two apartments during rates in bangkok over the weekend. it's the first break in the deadly blast that happened august 17. the man accused of gunning down a sheriff's deputy will be arraigned on capitol murder charges. this is the first court appearance of shannon miles. the attack on deputy goforth was unprovoked. >> the wings of two southwest airlines planes clipped 50e67 -- each other at oakland airport. both planes were taken out of
