are force dozens of people out of an attached hotel. we're live at the scene. >> also new people escape an apartment fire in south jersey thanks to a quick thinking neighbor. >> and accuweather is tracking a chance of showers for the next several days. >> let's find out more about that. dave murphy has latest in accuweather. karen rogers is taking a look at traffic. good morning. >> gosh everybody. and there's a little misty light fine drizzle here on the terrace. not enough for an umbrella. take a look at satellite. big issues is the low lying clouds, drizzle in some spots. you see the showers down to the south and west of us kind of falling apart. we may or may not pick up a little shower this morning and then after those get through, we have the chance of some sun returning later. for now it's cool, 46 degrees under the clouds, drizzle on the windshield and then your eyes if you're walking to the bus stop. 44 in reading. really even numbers across the region. as we roll through the day things improve. first of all the clouds and drizzle are going to break up a little bit later this morning. as we go later into the afternoon some sun returns.
second thing we're going to get milder than yesterday. by 1 o'clock we're up to 54. by 3 o'clock 60 and i expect a high of 62 at roughly 4 o'clock this afternoon. pollen forecast is starting to go up a little bit. notice how mild it's been so far this second half of this winter. well, there allowed those maple juniper and elm trees to start to bud and the pollen is getting up into the air. by tomorrow afternoon in particular we'll be in the medium high range. karen rogers we also get milder tomorrow. i'll have details on that coming up in the accuweather 7-day. >> all right dave. we're live on the schuylkill expressway. not too bad. the roads a little bit damp out there as you're traveling. you've got some leftover puddles from yesterday but no big problems on the schuylkill. this is at montgomery and we see the eastbound traffic headed towards center city and moving just fine at this point. no problems on the vine either. it was not closed for construction so westbound, eastbound moving okay. usually westbound we start to see things jam up. not really happening just yet. i think any minute now we'll start to see that slowdown building right there westbound as you head towards the schuylkill. we are starting to get a little bit slow in spots on
i-95. you can see that here approaching cottman. that's your southbound traffic headed towards center city. overall it's an easy 15 minute ride but traffic just starting to begin to build here at cottman and again at girard. one more issue out here. we've got some construction in royersford. it's been happening all this week and at 9:00 a.m. they're shutting down main street. you'll have to stick to arch street as your alternate matt and tam. >> thank you so much karen. breaking news. fire damaged a dire and forced dozens of people who were out into an attached hotel, they were in the hotel, they were forced out of it. this happened in chester delaware county. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at the scene, the 1300 block of edgemont. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and since we last spoke, the hotel guests have been allowed back up to their rooms and a lot of fire trucks have left but now that the equipment has cleared away from here you can get a better idea of the damage of the grape leaves diner here in chester. you can see there's a hole in the roof and a lot of repairs will need to be made. this is called the grape leaves diana rocco, it's formally the sunrise diner.
we're told it opened up recently here on the 1300 block of edgemont in chester. it's right near widener university. this fire broke out around 3 a.m. when fire crews arrived they saw flames on the exterior of the diner and they soon realized it was up in the roof area. at that point the day's inn which is right next door had not been evacuated but once the chief saw that there was smoke going into the hotel, he made the call to evacuate the guests. he said that took about 15 to 20 minutes. they did pull the fire alarms and 33 went from roo they went o room to make sure everybody was outside. guests say it was smoky. >> i heard the alarm go off. i smelled smoke i came down to ask what was wrong and they said there was a fire in the diner i guess and i ran back upstairs and got my friend and then we been sitting down here ever since. >> reporter: well, within the last 45 minutes or so the guests have been allowed back inside. the chief says most of the damage is to the dining facility.
so the diner will likely be closed for awhile. the cause of the morning fire remains under investigation. we're live in chester, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> katherine thank you for that. it is 6:04. we're following a developing story out of lindenwold camden county a fire at an apartment complex early this morning has displaced some of those residents. it happened just after 1:30 at the pines apartments in the 500 block of roper avenue. one resident says a woman living on the first floor knocked on her door and told her to get out. she says she grabbed what she could and ran for it. ly. >> me and my cat made it out safely, yeah, association so th. >> the resident says she'll stay with family for the night. that fire did damage two units in the building and there's still no word yet on what caused it. >> new on "action news," a police swat vehicle was involved in a chain reaction crash on i-95. it happened past the academy road exit in northeast
philadelphia. police say a driver lost control of his car and crashed into the concrete barrier. two officers in the swat vehicle stopped to help when a third car slammed into them. the driver of that last vehicle is being tested for dui. no one was hurt. a shooting in a philadelphia neighborhood left a young man fighting for his life. it happened at 9:30 last night along the 200 block of west grange avenue in olney. police say the 21-year-old victim was slot in the head while on the front porch of a home. another bullet was found in the living room. authorities are hoping surveillance cameras in the area will lead them to their shooter. >> when your avon rep says a new product will give you skin like an english rose. she'll have reason to know what she's talking about. maribel aber has more on a big change for this iconic company. good morning, maribel. >> reporter: good morning, tam. avon is calling on the uk actually. the struggling cosmetics maker is moving its corporate headquarters to the united kingdom. the company said the move is not for tax purposes but
instead part of an effort to have corporate staff closer to the bulk of its operations. avon is also slashing 2,500 jobs as it continues to try and turn around. avon shares have lost about 40 percent of their value over the past 12 months. it was a mixed session for stocks yesterday but the dow was a winner as a blue chips closed at a high for the year. right now futures pointing to a lower opened. we've got reports on retail sales and producer prices due out later today. a lot of americans are losing sleep over work. 44 percent of people polled said they had lost sleep while worrying about issues at work and one in four say it happens at least once a week according to the survey from career builder.com. now, part of the problem is that technology has people connected to their jobs more than ever. one consultant said actually matt and tam flynn to five is really now 24/7. thankfully i was off the grid for vacation last week. >> good for you. >> that's the secret. you go somewhere where there's no connection. >> right, right. >> all right, so, not as much of a rain connection this morning for us. just a little damp out there.
storm tracker6 live double scan shows now active showers at least to the east of harrisburg there's a little bit of stuff out to the west but that's actually pushing north and away from us and as we take a look outside, down on the ground road conditions a little bit on the damp side because we do have some low lying cloud cover that's producing some drizzle across the region. but nothing like what we had yesterday with those heavier downpours. 46 degrees in philadelphia, 45 currently in trenton, 45 in wilmington. actually numbers very even from allentown all the way down to the shore, just a couple of degrees difference in the spread this morning beneath those clouds. and you can see some showers down to the south and west. there had been some model runs that suggested some of these might make it up to philadelphia a little later this morning butter at the same time they're falling apart and some of the more recent model runs including this one doesn't show much between now and up until 9 o'clock or 10 o'clock. just a couple little spotty sprinkles and showers and some drizzle in between where you don't see the green. by noon i expect most of that to be out of here. we're seeing the clouds thin
ought out a little bit. watch what happens to those clouds later in the afternoon. up until 6 o'clock i see some holes opening up and i think we'll probably see some sunny breaks returning this afternoon, might even get a little shot of bright sunshine late in the day. up in the allentown area clouds, some sun, milder today with a high of 59 degrees. you were stuck in the low 50's yesterday so that's an improvement. down the shore 56 degrees, also better than yesterday, clouds mixing with some sun. a passing shower, some drizzle in the morning but dry in the afternoon. and in philadelphia, same story, clouds in the morning, some sun, reemerging as the day goes on. we've got that early drizzle for the morning commute and a high of 62 degrees. a lot better than yesterday when we were stuck in the upper 40's. winds not as strong today, too, out of the northeast at seven to 14 miles per hour. not too bad. overnight tonight mostly cloudy. we'll get some fog developing overnight with this light wind and moisture still in the vicinity. 48 degrees is the overnight low, though. that's not too shabby. and then tomorrow warm front gets past us, cold front still out to the west and in between
those two features we will manage to get milder. we'll get a high of 69 degrees. now, the trade-off tomorrow with these fronts in the vicinity is that we'll have fog in the morning, maybe a couple of pop-up showers in the afternoon and a fair amount of clouds around but it will get milder during the afternoon. now, unfortunately that front comes through and by thursday, we'll start to see those numbers cool down a little bit. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, today milder than yesterday, a high of 62. some drizzle in the morning, some sun later today. and then clouds and sun tomorrow, mild, 69 degrees with a shower around. and then that front gets past us and we stay mostly cloudy behind it with some wraparound clouds coming through for saint patrick's day, a high of 65 still well above average and a spotty shower possible in the afternoon or early evening. then on friday, clouds and sun, cooler with a high of just 59 and the latest model suggestions are making it look cooler for the weekend. seasonably cool on saturday with a high of just 52 and then 50 on sunday. of course spring arrives on sunday. the union home at talen energy

that's your westbound traffic. volume's not too bad. we were jammed solid on the ben and frankly most of your highways yesterday. so, today we're hoping for a better ride in and i'd say so far so good. on the big picture starting to see that now. a little bit of a slow speed on i-95 southbound. 37 miles an hour near girard. we're a little slow approaching cottman as well. you can see on the vine a little bit slow as well heading towards the schuylkill expressway. schuylkill for the most part is moving okay. let's take another live look. this is in new jersey. that's your 42 northbound traffic here at creek road. not moving too badly just yet. a touch of low clouds in this shot here. but as we look at the visibility we've really improved greatly in philadelphia and much of the area. we've got some low clouds in parts of gloucester and burlington and ocean counties. 2.5-mile visibility in toms river, 3-mile visibility at atlantiatlantic city but 10-milt philadelphia international airport. 47 degrees headed up to school. the afternoon will be a little brighter today, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. hundreds of people came out last flight to honor the
memory of 18-year-old nadje steedley. steedley was on her porch on north salford street when she was hit by a stray bullet over the weekend. mourners released dozens of balloons into the air in memorial moore yum for the woman they said had a zest for life. steedley was volunteer for an anti violence organization and the crowd urged anyone with any information to come forward. >> nobody knows who he is? let's save another life and step up and hopeful that person will come forward. >> there is a $20,000 reward being offered for information that leads to an arrest in this case. and a north carolina sheriff has decided not to press charges against donald trump in connection with an altercation after one of his rallies in fayetteville. cameras were rolling when a supporter suck are punched a protestor during that rally. cumberland county officials were investigating whether trump or his campaign were to blame for that attack.

assembly line. the company says through its own investigation officials have determined the video was recorded at its memphis tennessee factory back if 2014. kellogs says any product that could have been impacted would have been very limited and by now past the expiration date. the company hasn't identified the individual in the video. >> learning more about the death of a maryland police officer who was from delaware county. investigators say 28-year-old jacai colson was hit by friendly fire. they say the gunman michael ford opened fire outside a police station in prince george's county on sunday and believed ford intended to create an ambush that would take his own life. ford was wounded but survived. police say his two brothers filmed the attack. they are also in custody. colson's family says the officer had always dreamed of becoming a law enforcer. a driver survived a plunge from the fourth floor of a maryland parking garage. this is new video from the scene in towson yesterday.

your weather and your traffic. dave murphy has your accuweather and karen rogers has your traffic. good morning. >> well, good morning everyone. we're you have to a cool start. a half hour ago here on the terrace we had some fine light drizzle. that's gone now and clouds appear to be lifting just a bit. but it's still going to be a gray start and you see some showers down to the south and west of us. some of those might try and pop through. if they do it now appears they're going to be pretty light and pretty brief. as we take a look outside 47 degrees in philadelphia currently. and a little bit cooler up in allentown and reading and lancaster and trenton and even down in wilmington just 45 degrees, so definitely jacket weather as you step outside this morning. rolling into the afternoon things get better in a couple of ways. we dump the drizzle and the threat of showers after about 11 o'clock or so and then as we get later into the afternoon we are expecting the return of at least some sunny breaks. it's also going to get milder than yesterday. at 3 o'clock, 60 degrees and a high of 62 around 4 o'clock this afternoon. unfortunately we're starting to talk pollen again. you might have noticed your nose running a little bit over the last couple of weeks or
especially the last few days. we have had that mild late winter forecast going on for you and unfortunately that's allowed some of those trees especially maple juniper and elm to bud early. now we've got spores in the air early. tomorrow in particular it looks like we'll be up into the medium high range. karen rogers, a little bit of drizzle out there and roads slightly damp. >> roads a little bit damp but a big problem here right on the schuylkill expressway. we're looking live eastbound at the conshohocken curve. we've got a multi-vehicle accident. we've got a truck, another vehicle here all blocking the left lane and the center lane a third car off to the right-hand side so watch as everyone eastbound has to swerve around this and that's creating a big backup on the schuylkill eastbound. doesn't look like we're seeing emergency vehicles yet. i think they're trying to come within the backlog of this accident scene to get to the scene. we haven't seen this car budge at all so this car is not moving and creating a problem on the schuylkill:westbound on the conshohocken curve everyone jamming up, it's extra heavy as they're stopping to check out the
eastbound accident. that's really affecting traffic right now in both directions on the schuylkill. let's switch over to the ben franklin bridge. what a difference 15 minutes makes. we were looking at this scene not too long ago. look how heavy traffic is now. westbound traffic already heavy as you head westbound on the ben franklin bridge. we've got all lanes opened but it's a slow ride in so far this morning. another look, this is the roosevelt boulevard southbound traffic pretty heavy as well for people. this is only the second morning where we've had such a dark ride in after the time change and you see it slowing down, roads are a little wet, a touch of fog and that's not helping things. another accident, this is new as well. this is 202 southbound at henderson road. we can see a lot of emergency vehicles even an ambulance on the scene here. they're blocking the two right lanes on 202 southbound. couple big accidents on major highways, matt. >> okay, karen, thank you. we have breaking news. someone threw a molotov cocktail into a home in south philadelphia only an hour ago. "action news" reporter annie mccormick just arrived at the scene on the 200 block of beechwood street.
annie. >> reporter: and luckily matt according to investigator that is molotov cocktail did not make it actually inside of the home where we were told there was an adult and several teenagers inside. i want to take you down the street here. this is the 2200 block of south beechwood street right near the intersection of 22nd and wolf in south philadelphia. down there you can see investigators are down there from south detectives along with investigators from the fire department. now, what they tell me is that they he did appear to find a molotov cocktail. they say it appears to be a container with gasoline and rags inside of it. they believe that somebody tried to throw that into a home in the 2200 block of south beechwood street. they say that there is some damage to an outside window. however, that device did not make it inside of the home. they say that it is not clear right now if there was a fire from it, if there was just a small fire on the sidewalk. you can see a small burn mark near the steps of that home. however, at this point they're
saying that nobody had to be evacuated and nobody is injured at this time. now, investigators are out here, they are of course trying to figure out who would do this and throw this -- try to throw this inside of a home but at this point they say it's still very early in the investigation. fire crews expect to be out here for awhile. it is up to them procedure-wise to remove anything that's a combustible from the scene. they'll be out here for some time along with the fire marshal as well. reporting live from south philadelphia, annie mccormick channel6 "action news." matt and tam. >> annie mccormick with the very latest details. thank you. more breaking news. a fire damaged a diner in delaware county and forced hotel guests that were next door to the diner out of their rooms. 3 a.m. at the grape leaves diner. it's formally the sunrise diana rocco on the 1300 block of edgemont in chester. it's adjacent to a days inn. when fire crews arrived they saw the flames on the outside of the diner, the flames had torn into the diner roof. firefighters soon established that smoke was filling rooms and hallways of the adjacent hotel so the chief made the call to evacuate the hotel but guests are now back inside. as for the diner, the chief says most of the damage is in the dining rooms so the diner will likely be closed for awhile for all those repairs that need to be made. the cause of this fire remains under investigation. live in chester, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. >> katherine thank you for that. and we're awaiting an update from police on a terrible crash in gloucester county. it happened along route 322 at berkeley drive around 7:00 last night. the action cam found a tarp draped over the vehicle and two child safety seats along with other belongings placed on the side of the road. officials will only say that the driver lost control and

>> help lead the country into a political revolution. >> reporter: sander center city trailing clinton in all five states. voting today in his home state of florida, rubio is 20 points behind trump but here in ohio governor kasich has a chance to win making a contested republican convention likely matt and tam. reporting live here in cleveland, ohio, kenneth moton, channel6 "action news." >> thanks kenneth. kasich could be the establishment's only hope of stopping trump. we'll see. >> people are wondering whether sanders will surprise clinton. >> we're starting out mainly dry in terms of active showers. there's one out by harrisburg that's going to miss us but as we take a look outside it's still cloudy and kind of damp and gray out there as we have had some shots of drizzle this morning. there's the commodore barry bridge as we look north along the delaware river from the chester waterfront and so some of you might still have those windshields going back and forth as the road's slightly
wet from some overnight drizzle and light showers and sprinkle activity. 47 degrees currently in philadelphia. it's also cool as you step outside and we do have a north wind at 12 miles per hour. it's not as strong as yesterday but on the chilly side as you open the door. as we take a look at future tracker6, a couple of additional showers down to the south of us trying to make their way up north as we go through the morning, most of them will fall apart before they get here. if you do see something it's either drizzle this morning or maybe a real brief light spotty shower. after 12 o'clock, though, and later into the afternoon, we are on the lookout for some breaks in the clouds and the possibility of some sunny breaks before we get to sundown and with that little bit of sunshine breaking through we are looking at temperatures improving today. 44 degrees by 8 o'clock, 46 by 10 o'clock but by noon, 51 degrees which is already better than yesterday. and then by 3 o'clock, we'll be on or about 60 degrees and i expect a high of 62 right in there around 4 o'clock this afternoon. some sun coming back later. high temperatures from north to south are all better than yesterday. 59 degrees in allentown, 60 in
reading and trenton. 62 in philadelphia, wilmington, millville. looks like mid to upper 50's down the shore in places like atlantic city, down the coast of cape may. tomorrow we get a warm front coming through and in the morning with winds light and a lot of moisture still around we do expect the development of some fog so tomorrow low clouds and fog to start out. and we'll probably stay fairly cloudy with a couple of pop-up showers in the afternoon. but the big story is that temperature. we will get up close to 70 degrees. we'll go 69 in philadelphia. unfortunately with the front coming through behind that 69 on thursday we do start to see temperatures cool down again. your exclusive accuweather 7-day, today's high 62, clouds, some sun later on. got some of that drizzle around this morning. and then 69 tomorrow with clouds and sun. mild conditions and a spotty shower in the afternoon. again, we'll start out cloudy and foggy. and then mostly cloudy for saint patrick's day, 65 is the high. again a spotty shower is possible in the afternoon but if you have plans to be out in the city on thursday, mainly dry. might want to just keep a
poncho handy just in case the rain comes. friday clouds and sun and cooler late day sprinkle or shower possible a high of 59. there's a coastal storm popped up on the models that appears to be cooling us down for the weekend. saturday 52 degrees. seasonably cool there. sunday cloudy skies, 50 degrees for the arrival of spring and the union home opener and there could be some rain coming in during the afternoon. in fact, the farther you go up towards the poconos and the lehigh valley we might even get a little wet snow mixing in. again, that would be late sunday and then monday 52 degrees and maybe a spotty shower left over on monday as well. so, a little unsettled over the next several days and cooling down a bit for the weekend. >> okay, thank you david. it is now 6:41 and up next more stories you didn't see last night including a deadly shootout between a suspect and chicago police. >> driven to kill. detectives say a notorious murder suspect is claiming a ride sharing app made him do it. karen. >> look at this backup on the schuylkill expressway. i mean, you're jammed solid
>> ♪ >> 6:44. this tuesday and i-95 and the ben franklin bridge both seem to be moving well. not raining like it was yesterday but it's not going to be exactly clear throughout the day either. >> let's head on over to karen rogers she's got the very latest on some tough times on the schuylkill. >> yeah, we've got an accident on the schuylkill expressway. here's the update as we're looking live right now.
this is the schuylkill eastbound here approaching the conshohocken curve or at the conshohocken curve. we have meals on the scene and they've pushed the vehicles off to the right side. this is some really good news. so we've got emergency workers here. there are three vehicles involved. one of which is a box truck and they were right here blocking two lanes on the schuylkill eastbound so you know what happens when you've got two lanes blocked on the schuylkill. i mean we're jammed past conshohocken because of it eastbound. westbound everybody is jammed stopping and checking outer the scene so we're really heavy in both directions due to this accident on the schuylkill eastbound at the conshohocken curve but now they've pushed the vehicles off to the side and things are starting to move at least a little bit better. we've got a new accident in new jersey right on the a.c. expressway westbound at the berlin cross keys road. you want to watch for this. a lot of people hop on the a.c. expressway because that berlin cross keys you can get right onto 42 and head into the city so now you've got an accident creating a pretty good size delay. only 38 miles an hour on the a.c. expressway so that's going to affect you trying to come into philadelphia even.
valley hill road between ship road and 401 some police activity in uwchlan township causing a problem right now. that's also new just coming in. want to take you to 202 southbound. this is at henderson road. yet another accident that we've got here. we saw police and emergency workers. there was an ambulance on the scene earlier and they were blocking two lanes. looks like they still are. you can see how traffic is jammed as everyone using just that left lane to move around the accident scene on 202 southbound at henderson road. meanwhile we've got some light rain out there. it's really just a little bit of drizzle. fog had been an issue but we're looking better in philadelphia international. still 3-mile visibility in toms river and atlantic city airport. early this morning we have a little bit of drizzle but this afternoon we'll see some sunshine. the temperatures 47. but headed up to 62, tam. >> thank you karen. we're learning more about a deadly shoot? it that injured three police officers. the trio stopped a man and a woman in an area of suspected drug activity.
officers returned fire killing the pennsylvania. the injured police are described as veteran officers each one recovering from nonlife-threatening lower body hits. police are questioning the woman at the scene of the shootout. a man charged with killing six people in michigan while driving for uber is blaming his ride sharing app for his behavior. investigators say jason dalton told them that the app was controlling him through his cell phone and he claims an artificial sense took over his body and made him fire at random targets. dalton does not have a history of mental illness. a judge ordered dalton to undergo evaluation to see if he's competent to stand trial. >> an nfl official has acknowledged for the first time a link between playing football and the brain disease referred to as cte. jeff miller the league senior vice president for health and safety spoke about the connection during a congressional committee meeting on concussions. he referenced a boston university doctor who found cte in the brains of 90 former pro football players. miller added the broader scope of the issue has yet to be

it is starting to dry up now. jackets required. it is going to get milder this afternoon though. right now we're in the low to mid 40's from slatington all the way down to center city. across the river in south jersey a lot of mid 40's to the shore up to cinnaminson and the same story up and down the state of delaware. as we roll through the afternoon things are going to get better. we're going to get milder getting up to 62 for a high by 4 o'clock. that's not bad. also some sunny breaks opening up and that drizzle is getting less and less as we go through the next several hours. we'll be back with your top stories. >> ♪
