the crowd is huge and getting bigger. the excitement is amassing as well. some 50,000 people expected for the victory parade for the villanova wildcats that kicks off in a half hour from now. chopper 6 hd is live over center city where the parade route from market street is lined with excited fans. from the air to the ground people are gathering to cheer on their team for sometime and they are dressed proudly in their villanova blue and white. it's 12:30 and welcome back we continue our coverage of the victory parade for villanova. this is it, all the hard work and dedication of the mens basketball is being rewarded in a big way today. since the memorable winning shot. they were welcomed back to philadelphia by more than 1,000 people at the airport and greeted by huge cheers at the football stadium on campus and now they had a few days to rest and the big parade is about to begin in center city
philadelphia. we have live team coverage of the victory parade and nora muchanic is at the start at 20th and market streets but first back to alicia vitarelli and gray hall live at dillworth park where the rally will be held for the conclusion of today's parade. lots of excitement building already. >> you can feel it it's electric here, we are talking about this leading up to the moment and the excitement. this is the day and you can feel the excitement, the fans are super excitement, they all have signs like this one that say wildcats and 2016 national champs, they have gathered out here hours before the parade starts, of course it starts at 1:00 but they all wanted the coveted prize seats in the front row. >> someone asked me were they ticketed and no they are first come first serve and it's building and 60 thousand people are expected.
v for villanova and v for victory and for philadelphia it's a big day. businesses are anticipating this incredible crowd and they are amped up and many are following the team since houston and were there in the nrg stadium for the big win and here for the big victory celebration. >> so exciting to see the wildcats knock off team after team after team and then unc. we met a guy today 91 years old today. class of 1950 and he says this is the best birthday prept ever. >> we caught up with one girl, a villanova student who is doing her homework here at dillworth park. that is dedication. that is what the wildcat spirit is all about. someone said before it's a good day to be a wildcat. >> a good day indeed. crews are working around the clock to set the area up and the teams will head here and a stage
behind us and the coach will talk and the players will talk, we spoke to officials from villanova earlier about what will happen when the players arrive. >> the university couldn't be more excited. this is a great opportunity to share in this victory for the university but share it with the city of philadelphia. we are excited and we are parading down market street and ending here at dillworth park. >> i had a chance to spend time with katie in houston and she worked directly with father peter donahue, the president of the university. it was a special moment when father peter held mass inside of team hotel and it was standing room only, they brought hosts with them and they were cracking them in half because that is how many people that came to pray. and it's indicative of the pride of the school and the pride out here today. >> 1:00 is coming up and we'll
be here. >> thank you guys. now, lets switch live to "action news" reporter, nora muchanic, at 20th and market streets where the parade steps off in about 25 minutes. >> reporter: we have fans lining up on the route here and they have their signs and everything and they are ready to go. let me show you what is going on. market street is shut off and there are buses and that is presumably villanova folks and the conestoga high school band is lining up and the police are lining the route and the motorcycle crew is escorting the buses up and if you look far down there, you may be able to see the buses, i'm not sure. it looks crowded. earlier this morning the team organizer were getting the buss in line and buttons were handed out to volunteers, they are handing them out all morning long. we talked to these folks beforehand. >> i love villanova. love jay wright and i love the
basketball team and just wanted to be here. >> exciting today? >> yes. very exciting. >> i am so proud of this team and villanova, the way they conducted themselves, made the entire community proud. >> we are huge fans of villanova and villanova basketball specifically, i think it's great for the city. often do you see a national championship, have to skip work and make sure we are here for the festivities. >> was an athlete at villanova and played soccer there, the wholea athletic department say wonderful family. >> the way we want it, and the years we waited for a championship, it's just special. >> everything that we are so proud of as a university for the city to see that. >> you want to share it? >> yes, we want to share it with the city and our villanovans
around the country and around the world. here are the fans here now they have their signs ready to go, happy to welcome the world champion team from villanova. i have to tell you it's pretty chilly, we could have used warmer weather but i think the fans will heat things up when the parade gets started. nora muchanic, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you nora. the wildcats won the championship back in 1985 of course and there was a victory parade that year as well. the team played a nearly perfect game to pull off a massive upset over georgetown. now lets go back to reporter, trish hartman, she is live at suburban station where there was a big rush to get to the parade in center city. >> reporter: hey rick, a lot of people taking the train into town and i found villanova fans, they are ready for the parade. these fans say they took an uber because the line for the train
was so long, we talked to early birds that came down ahead of time and rode the train with hundreds of other fans, all excited to see the wildcats parade down market street. >> reporter: there was no mistaking when the nova nation arrived at suburban station, the energy on the train was contagious. >> it was packed and we were all standing shoulder to shoulder, all the people we don't know, we are all from villanova and everybody is really close. there was a man from the class of 56 and he walks up to us, and it's nice to see the community, old, new and young. it was great. >> and then those that arrived hours before excited to beat the rush and stake out a spot. >> coming down was not bad. >> we found more than a few youngsters that were missing school today because of wildcat fever. >> he was so excited when they
won the championship and we took him the next day when the team showed up and he wanted to go to the parade. >> they won and i said mom i have to stay home from school i am a big fan. >> did you have to think about it? >> no hesitation whatsoever, he say good kid. >> there were delays on the paoli thorndale line because of the crowd septa is posting updates on twitter this morning. for those taking septa home, be prepared for a crowded commute especially on the paoli line and high speed line. for more on the parade you can go to 6abc.com. rick -- >> thank you. now to the forecast for the parade so far so good. but it's a bit cold out there. folks on the parade route are bundled up, and lets head outside to melissa magee with the details from accuweather. at least no chance of
precipitation? >> yes, we were tracking a spotty shower south of philadelphia, that is breaking apart but the chill is overhead on our friday, it's a victory day across much of the delaware and lehigh sally, we'll show you the numbers, it's 47 in philadelphia season 42 in allentown and 41 in lancaster and 49 in beach hafep, but the winds are stiff right now and they are gusting higher than that out of the west. a gust of 29 miles per hour, gusts of 32 in wilmington and 31 in lancaster, from you at the villanova victory parade as that gets trod take place at 1:00, we have windchills now holding at 40 degrees. we have you cover if you step out seed this afternoon. it's partly sunny and westerly winds 12 to 20 miles per hour. the temperature around 49 for the start of the parade and 51 at 3:00 and 52 at 5:00 p.m.

>> that was it the winning shot. ryan arcidiacono gave it to kris jenkins for the buzzer beater three pointer. it will go down as one of the best wins in college basketball history. that is why we are having a parade today and that kicks off in just about 15 minutes. jaime apody is live in the middle of the excitement at dill worth park. jaime lots of villanova pride on display in the heart of the city. >> reporter: i'll say. rick take a listen to this -- nova! >> i am surrounds by hundreds of my favorite villanova fans. we have our young guys here. and then we have -- a crowd of all ages, young kids and we also have a group of high schoolers playing hooky today.
now, they tell me that their teachers are well aware of this. if you can hear me ryan arcidiacono, we have a crew from horsham and a crew from conestoga. and we have a crew from neshaminy high school. and neshaminy is where ryan arcidiacono went to school. this guy right here. these guys tell me their teachers know they are here. your teachers know you are not at school today? >> yes! >> is anyone at neshaminy high school today? >> no! >> what made you come out today? >> ryan arcidiacono! >> over here conestoga high school -- how about you guys did you get a note from your parents? what is the deal? >> yes! we wrote our own notes!

back live to center city now where we are counting down to the parade. you see ryan arcidiacono and some other players. i think we saw daniel ochefu already there on top of a bus. the parade has not kicked off yet but there are the players. ochefu still wearing the netting around his neck from houston and they are ready for a parade and the folks are lined up along market street and they are ready. ryan is holding the trophy. and they are ready as well. the parade not officially
kicking off but it is underway as you can tell. they are on top of a bus proceeding down market street. it starts at 23rd and market and heads east to dillworth park at city hall and a lot of excitement already for this championship victory parade celebrating the wildcats. it's going to be quite an afternoon. folks are bundled up as they should be. but the rain will hold off, which is nice. >> that is good but the temperatures still on the chilly side this afternoon. we'll show you what is going on here stormtracker 6 live double scan a spotty shower now pressing to the south and east of philadelphia into south jersey at this hour. so the clouds should slowly break for sunshine as we go through the rest of the afternoon, outside we go, sky 6 hd looking at the center city skyline. there you go you can see the breaks in the clouds as the spotty showers continue to dissipate. bundle up if you step out this
afternoon. average is 61 and we'll be well below that by day's end. just 43 in slatington and 39 in warrington and a windchill of 40, and 47 in coatesville out to the north and west. holding on to 50 in hockessin and boardwalk 50 and 48 for bridgeton. here are the windchills with the winds constant 12 to 20 miles per hour from the westerly direction and a windchill of 40 in the city and 41 in lapd caster 4 in the poconos and 37 up the 95 corridor into trenton. here is satellite 6 along with action radar here is the disturbance we are tracking to the northern and east and here is the clipper that moves in in time for the start of our weekend, the snow is pressing into chicago and wet precipitation there moving across the ohio valley and skirting eastward and we are
dealing with the wet rain. rain is wet. and snow showers north and west of town. a high temperature today of 55, definitely on the cool side. sunshine and clouds sharing the skies and winds 12 to 20 miles per hour. and we track the clipper moving on through. 45 tomorrow and rain and wet snow alives early in the day and fwusty evening winds on the backside once the clipper departs. 8:00 in the morning, rain and snow south and west of philadelphia but as we go through the mid-day hour, 10:00 in the morning you notice rain in philadelphia and temperature of 40, it's road looks primarily wet for the city south and east and 3:00 in the afternoon the wet weather persists for areas north and west of town. as we go through the early evening hours, the moisture and snow starts to dissipate from an east-west direction, as far as
possible snowfall, we call for a couple of flakes mixing in and on the backside a slushy coating and the road looks to be primarily wet, and are you dealing with an april sun angle that makes for warmer temperatures, a coating to an inch possible for the poconos and northern lancaster county, as we get into saturday night, the freeze certainly comes back and a freeze watch is posted saturday night into sunday morning for the 95 corridor and areas south and east. and definitely a good idea to cover up tender vegetation and the chill returns into sunday. the accuweather forecast showing you breezy and cooler today high of 55 and rain and wet snow shower into saturday at 45 degrees. sunny and chilly on sunday and 48 degrees after a cold start sunday morning. a spotty shower on monday up to 61 and 64 on tuesday. and the 50s and 60s next
