before his partner took him to the hospital. two suspects are in custody and police is saying there might be a third. this was the scene at salford and market where gunfire erupted between a robbery suspect and philadelphia police. it all started when a woman flagged down two officers on patrol. two men she said were breaking into her car. as they approached two males exited the vehicle, they started to run. officer mccullough tackled one of the males almost instantly he was shot in his left leg. the male got up and started running northbound on salford street. officer mccullough pursued him and fired three times. >> reporter: even after 24-year-old police officer james mccullough was shot he managed to fire off shots himself and applied first aid to his leg. it's important to point out that he applied a tourniquet himself because he was bleeding

profusely. his partner went to his aid and brought him to the officer. two suspects in custody. neither was hit by the police bullets. a heavy police presence grew outside the hospital the mayor, commissioner ross and the police of the 18th district filed inside in support of officer mccullough. it's a dangerous city and lots of gunnels out there. >> reporter: we're told that besides fellow police officers mccullough's family is by his side. he has a 2-year-old daughter and fiance and on the force for two years and currently in the 18th district. annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." back to you. thanks for the update, annie. brand new "action news" has obtained the dramatic police radio call made by officer's mccullough's partner as shots were being fired. police shut down service in

the market frank ford el and set up a grid search of the area as they took the suspects into custody. police are looking into what started a shootout that ended with three people dead. it happened on east west west moreland street. a 46-year-old man called police saying he had shot someone. he bar -- barricaded himself inside a house about to two hours later he let them inside. police found the man's brother and girlfriend and another person shot in the head. this video shows crews hosing down hot spots after the

flames break out in the back of the house on ardmore avenue. the family who just purchased the home had not moved in because it was under renovation. two vehicle crash and utility pole crashing down to the ground in west philadelphia. 63rd chestnut streets, one car sideswiped another sending the vehicle into the pole. the woman whose car was pushed into the pole is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. there's no word if a dirt bike driver will face charges for a crash that ended with injuring a child. officers say a police helicopter was hovering over the biker at the time of the crash. the child has minor injuries. philadelphia police say the wreck illustrates the dangers of
