filling in today. let's take a look at the current numbers. it's 73 right now in philadelphia, a comfortable 65 in allentown. it's 67 degrees right now in reading. 73 in millville and cape may and 74 the warm spot on the map in atlantic city but here's the difference. although a little sticky out there right now, in a few hours we're going to see the humidity drop and it's really going to feel comfortable for the rest of the day. we're talking dewpoints below 60. that's a significant change from the oppressive humidity we've had the past couple days. we have a few early morning clouds as that front is still lumping offer the coast. otherwise it's bright sunshine all the way through. by 10:00 a.m., it's 80 degrees with sunny skies. by noon, 85. it's still very warm today. i mean, not the 96 we had yesterday but by 3:00 p.m. 89, that's your high for at a and by 5:00 p.m., 88, maybe a you believe can of fair weather cumulus clouds popping up but a beautiful sunny day. we are tracking another heat wave on the way, though. details on that in the seven-day forecast coming up, matt. >> and karen i probably don't have to tell you but i will anyway that our summer of
septa shortages and slowdowns continues this morning. we got new schedules yesterday on five of the different septa regional rail lines. those schedules providing a little bit more service but it didn't seem to do a lot to alleviate our ongoing delays and overcrowding that we've been experiencing. we saw big delays again yesterday. we expect them again this morning. if there's any way you can travel on the regional rails not during the rush hours you're going to be better off. we'll keep you posted on the delays as the morning progresses. no delays here so far this morning along 422 despite the fact that the overnight construction continues here in the westbound right lane by route 23. traffic is getting by in westbound left lane without too much of a problem. an overnight construction on the vine street expressway has cleared out. everything's reopened so go ahead and use it but don't use it tonight at 11 o'clock. that's when the construction crews return. in kensington fire crews are on the scene of a vehicle fire this morning along fifth street near gall. so that, too, is a good spot to avoid on this tuesday morning.
matt. >> thank you, matt. a man carrying a rock attacked a chester county police officer on patrol. dashcam video captured the moment the man threw the rock at the officer in his patrol car. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at the coatesville police department with the video and the full story. katherine. >> reporter: matt, one of the officers ended up way broken sten numb. he wasternum. he was taken to the hospital in stable condition. the suspect is on custody with aggravated charges on a police officer. 29-year-old eric watson was let out in handcuffs last night charged for attacking coatesville police way large rock which crushed the cruiser's windshield. it was all captured on the officer's dashcam. police say officer jared davis was on patrol shortly before 2:00 p.m. monday on the 500 block of east lincoln highway when the video shows a man running towards the vehicle throwing the rock and smashing the windshield. the officer pulled over.
>> this person is actually running towards his vehicle so he tries to give a little bit more distance between himself and the suspect and he gets out of the vehicle and the gentleman attacks him. >> reporter: police say watson then tried to strike officer davis on the head with the rock. other officers responded. a detective was hit in the chest during the scuffle and broke his sternum. officers used their taser to subdue watson. the jamaican immigrant cursed at the judge and told her to lock him up and deport him to jamaica. he told her he he had been homeland security. >> any comments. >> reporter: yes, i going to chester county. they denied me my service. >> and watson was remanded to chester county prison in lieu of $100,000 cash bail. live in coatesville katherine scott channel6 "action news. >> thank you for that katherine. also new this morning a correctional officer and an inmate are both dead after a brief altercation at a
northeast pennsylvania prison. it happened last night at the luzerne county correctional facility in wilkes-barre. county officials confirm the deaths but they declined to comment on what led to the altercation or on how these two men died. officials have identified the dead inmate as 27-year-old tracy gilliam. they have not released the name of the correctional officer. the prison is currently on lockdown. it is 5:05 and also new this morning, carbon monoxide is known as the silent killer since you can't smell it or detect it so the residents of a north philadelphia building are lucky that a monitor saved their lives. the action cam was there as fire crews investigated a three story building in the 1700 block of cecil b. moore avenue. it housed apartments above a hookah lounge and restaurant aday day care is located next door. five people in all were forced out. pgw crews are working to find the source while philadelphia firefighters ventilate the building. no injuries were reported. >> ♪ >> happening today, new jersey governor chris christie will speak at the republican
national convention. will be difficult painful work repairing the bonds between officers and communities in places like louisiana, minnesota and dallas. clinton is scheduled to be in miami later today. >> parts of delaware county bore the brunt of yesterday's fierce line of storms. >> the trail of damage is costly. snapped trees battered utility poles and downed power lines litter yards across havertown. kelly wick says she heard the sound of a 70-foot tree crushing her new car. andrew laughton and his family recorded video seconds after seeing a bolt of lightning hit a tree. >> still smoking when we came out. it was insane. tell you the truth after it hit we couldn't even see the thing hit the ground 'cause the storm was so hard. >> employees spent the evening cleaning up at the swiss farms on eagle road. the gusty winds ripped apart the 40-year-old silo he that sat next to the drive through there and as typical with these storms lower humidity on the other side we're experiencing right now. >> ahead that of front it's really warm and sticky as it was yesterday.
behind it is some relief so we've got the relief end today. we like that, right? let's take a look right now at storm tracker6 live double scan. we're dry through the region. we're staying dry today so no threat of storm. let's go on outside and start this day off right. we're looking live on sky6 at the center city skyline. we still have a fair amount of clouds out there but we're going to mix with sunshine and we're going have a bright and sunny day ahead as that front limps through, still some leftover clouds here and there. temperature is currently 73 degrees. the dewpoint 69. it is down from yesterday. it will continue to drop as the day goes on and it's going to feel good and comfortable out there. the pressure is currently rising behind that front. the winds are out of the south, they're going to switch to the northwest and that's what's going to help allow things feel better later today. the ocean temperature is 66. satellite6 and action radar kind of showing on the radar what we showed you in the video, those strong storms that moved through the area and in its wake we can see we've got some patchy clouds but you see to the west it's nice and clear. we're going have bright
sunshine filling up the day today. let's look at it hour by hour. today's high 89 degrees so it's still really warm but it's bright and sunny and comfortable with lower humidity. by 8:00 a.m., it's about 78, still some of those clouds mixing with the sun at that point but bright and sunny by 10:00, 82 degrees. and by that point i think we'll all feel the difference in the humidity. it's going to feel nice. by lunchtime 85 degrees. it's a sunny day. by 3:00 p.m., 89, feeling pretty warm but comfortable. by 5:00 p.m., it's 88 degrees. and if you're down the shore today, it's still very warm with 85 in atlantic city. and ocean city just a few clouds, less humid but the u.v. index very high. 87 in rehoboth beach, 89 very warm in bethany beach. tomorrow pick of the week. high pressure moves in right above. we keep the sunshine but the humidity tropical storm even more, the temperature drops. only 85 for your high so you get a little bit of a break before we track yet another heat wave. here's your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. today still very warm, 89 for your high but less humid so

lower humidity. it's going to feel a lot better than yesterday. >> a lot better if you got to wait for septa for awhile today, matt pelman. >> yeah, i said last evening you would not want to be standing on a septa platform during the height that of evening rush when the storms were really moving in. the rain was pouring down. hopefully you didn't get too wet and hopefully you made it home without too much of an issue. we'll see how things go this morning. on the roads coming out of the suburbs, so far not so bad here along route one the super highway. appears we have a disabled off to the right shoulder with a little assistance as you head northbound towards the trenton-morrisville bridge but both lanes are opened. no overnight construction so traffic is moving fine but there is still work going on on the northeast extension of the pennsylvania turnpike. they're working northbound taking out the left lane and there are a couple of zones southbound coming down from lansdale toward plymouth meeting. watch out for the crews. should be out of there before too long but for now they are still out there. and with the waze app and the commuter report eagles fans are the best is saying there's
also an object on the road. on the northeast extension southbound just south of lansdale so you have not only construction but also that object on the road to watch out for on 476. also still have some overnight construction other new jersey turnpike as you come southbound between exit four for route 73 and exit three for the black horse pike. the right lane out of commission there until 6 o'clock. but our overnight crash in pennsauken along 130 at browning road by new tierra columbia has cleared out. the ramp from 295 to 42 has cleared. construction there has gone. matt. >> german police killed an ax wielding teenager who they say attacked a family on a train. just minutes ago we learned that the islamic state has claimed responsibility for the attack. police say a 17-year-old from afghanistan went after them while traveling southeast of frankfurt. the family of four from hong kong was seriously injured. police say the teenager with
the ax jumped out of the train when it made an emergency stop. they later tracked him down and shot and killed him. >> president barack obama has called authorities in baton rouge, louisiana and the families of three officers killed there to offer his condolences. there was a candlelight vigil in the state just one day after six officers were shot by a lone gunman. and the moment that gavin long hunted down police officers was captured on video. investigators released these new pictures showing long wearing a mask and carrying a riflely they say the former marine knew exactly what he was doing and had scouted out this area before the shooting. the ben franklin bridge was lit up in blue last night in memory of the slain baton rouge officers. it had already been illuminated in honor of the police officers killed in dallas and sadly this new tragedy called for that tribute to be extended. as well president obama ordered flags at all government buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims. new here on "action news," a violent purse snatching at a tennessee mall was caught on camera and it all happened to
a 95-year-old woman in memphis. surveillance video shows the woman walking outside alone with her cane out of nowhere a man grabs her purse knocking the elderly woman, that hurts my that's right see he that, to the ground and it appears that the man drags the woman along the pavement for about six or 7 feet. ultimately the crook gets away purse in hand and jumps into awaiting car. the elderly woman was transported to the hospital in noncritical condition. >> phillies continue their series against the marlins at citizens bank park tonight. vincent velasquez will be on the mound. phillies held the lead until homer to martin prado. phillies lose three to two. nelson aguilar will be able focus on football. philadelphia district attorney seth williams announced yesterday no charges will be filed against the 23-year-old. the investigation stems from

>> a teenaged pilot from compton california returned home a hero after flying around the country. 16-year-old isaiah cooper is the youngest african-american to pilot a plane around the continental u.s. it took him about two weeks to travel more than 8,000 miles. he says the skies weren't always friendly but quitting was never an option for him.

>> ♪ >> in the morning buzz, so this is one of the big talkers coming out of of the opening night of the republican national convention last night. melania trump was the main speaker. she looked pretty and poised. donald trump surprising the crowd coming out on the first night. but the debate this morning is over what she said. critics are saying two parts of the speech are way too similar to things said by michelle obama in her speech at the 2008 democratic
