karen. >> it's such a great day to do it. it feels fabulous out here. the humidity is way down. the sun is coming up and we're going to see bright sunshine. the one fly in the ointment storm tracker6 live double scan showing we had just a small cluster of storms but they tore through delaware and parts of south jersey. now making it off the coastline in atlantic city. these storms brought 65 miles an hour winds and in some areas hail so very heavy downpours. we can see how it kind of dissipated now that it's pushing through atlantic city and off the coast but we are watching for that to 12 especially in delaware at any point the first half of the day we could see he that or extreme south jersey. 59 in quakertown. the rest of us just dry and clear. 59 in pottstown. 64 in saint davids. 71 in center city. currently in new jersey it's 62 in browns mills, 66 in hammonton, 68 in woodbine, 67 in dover, delaware. the humidity way down there. the dewpoint are just in the 50's in philadelphia and the northeast so it feels very comfortable out there as you're heading out. let's take a look at the day
ahead. by 7:00 a.m., 71 degrees. good amount of sunshine. by 10:00 a.m., comfortable, 75. by lunchtime, 83 with sunshine but still could see a shower in delaware. by 3:00 p.m., 85 degrees. our high is 86. we'll hit it at around 4 o'clock this afternoon so good looking day today but matt pelman it doesn't last. >> isn't that always the case. good morning to you karen. you mentioned those showers and storms this morning close to the coast left us with wet conditions here in tuckahoe as we look live this is 50 right at 49. if you kept going northbound here you'd be at the tuckahoe river bridge where of course the ongoing construction that gives us headaches continues. this morning the traffic's fine but do watch out for the wet conditions, the puddles out here close to the coast. also have a crash on the garden state parkway. still out here in the left lane southbound past northfield and margate. at this point speeds aren't impacted a whole lot. it's nice and dry in center city but we have some building westbound volume now on the vine street expressway approaching the schuylkill. overnight construction on the
vine was canceled last night and apparently the crews aren't going to return until after the democratic national convention. so you're good to go for the next about week and a half on the vine street expressway during the overnights. several new accidents coming in to us. there's one on the main line along lancaster avenue at ardmore avenue. emergency crews on the scene there. also a new one in abington along sherwood road at amity road. no problems on the turnpike. in limerick township watch out for a crash along game farm road at main road but overnight construction on the turnpike in chester county has cleared so you're good to go there on this wednesday morning. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. with begin with breaking news. a gruesome scene overnight. a man found dead shot several times feet from a nearby fire station. "action news" reporter katherine scott has been gathering details and new information. she is at the 4200 block of viola street in parkside. she's got those details. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and police have cleared the scene here in parkside and
they're still trying to determine exactly what happened. they're talking to witnesses and they're talking with family members. it happened right down the street here on the 4200 block of viola street. a man shot and killed right outside his home. it happened just before 2:00 a.m. police on patrol heard several gun shots and found the 22-year-old victim lying in the street. he was unresponsive, gun shot wounds to his head. medics from nearby fire station rushed over and pronounced him dead at the scene. he parked his car in front of his house and went inside. a friend had been waiting by the car. he came back out and two men emerged from a vacant lot. they were wearing ski masks and white t-shirts and both had guns possibly revolveers. police say they chased after the victim and opened fire. >> when the victim collapsed in the 4200 block of viola, both of the shooters stood over the victim and continued to stand over his body and
fire shots from point blank range. >> reporter: witnesses told police they heard between five and six shots and again this remains under investigation this morning. police don't yet know the motive. we're live in parkside, katherine scott channel6 "action news. >> katherine thank you. also breaking viewer video shows flames shooting from a home in philadelphia's mayfair section this morning. a philadelphia firefighter suffered heat exhaustion while battling that blaze. the flames broke out around 3:45 this morning down in a basement. the fire spread to the upper two floors of the home on the 4700 block of shelmire avenue and it took crews about an hour to get that fire under control. the injured firefighter we told you about was taken to the hospital. they are expected to be okay. >> ♪ >> donald trump is now the official republican nominee for president. delegates at the gop convention formally nominated trump and his running mate indiana governor mike pence last night. trump addressed the convention briefly by video from new york
last night thanking them. off the coast. let's go in a little closer with double scan. if you're in atlantic city you can see it just pulling off the coastline right now. you see this cluster off shore when that tore through delaware we had 65 miles an hour winds so that's out of here but in this area especially in delaware and parts of south jersey you could see that popping up a little later on. let's go on outside. we want to see what it looks like because it's pretty here in center city as we look live on sky6 we've had just a few clouds up above and we're going to see he that sunshine filtering through as we look live on sky ex, checking the current conditions for you. right now we want to tell you to go outside today, if you can, and enjoy it because the humidity is down there. the temperatures are pretty comfortable and we are tracking a weekend sizzler and actually heat wave number four and it looks to be a pretty intense one. try to enjoy this break in the weather today. it's just currently 71 in the city but only 60 in allentown, nice and comfortable there. 65 in reading. 69 in millville. a little warmer in cape may and atlantic city where you're sitting at 70 degrees. satellite6 and action radar showing us that for the most
part we've got clear skies. and we're looking at those storms that have kind of pushed off the coastline right now and watching for the possibility of one or two to develop again especially in delaware and south jersey. future tracker6 showing that at 10 o'clock in the morning maybe a little cell near millville but watch what happens in dover, delaware at 2:30 this afternoon. this one particular model showing it try to reignite in that area while the rest of us stay dry so just something to watch for if you're south of the city so down the shore mostly sunny for the most part. watching for a stray shower coming up in parts of south jersey later today. 79 atlantic city and in delaware better chance to see a shower and 80 degrees for your high today and rehoboth beach you'll get a sea breeze down the shore. by 8:00 a.m. 72 degrees. by 10:00 a.m., it's 78 with bright sunshine. by lunchtime, 83 degrees. the only place we see any concern with the weather right now is parts of delaware and extreme south jersey. by 3 o'clock, 85 degrees. your high is 86. it's nice and it's comfortable

ahead on the eastbound side between 28th and 26th streets so a lane is going to be out in both directions here in the university city area along the schuylkill later on you will undoubtedly see delays. and this morning we're seeing a number of accidents, one out here on the main line along lancaster avenue, route 30 at ardmore avenue so if you're headed to the ihop or mickey d's for breakfast this morning watch out emergency crews are on the scene of that crash. also one in abington township by jackson park along sherwood road at amity road. so far it's a pretty good ride on the east west pennsylvania turnpike. getting word of a new problem on the northeast extension. it's a disabled tractor-trailer blocking the ramp from the southbound side to lansdale right now. that ramp completely shut down so if you're coming southbound and you normally exit at lansdale i would exit back at quakertown. right now the ramp to lansdale is blocked on the southbound nex. crash as well in limerick along game farm road at ming road. construction atticism clock on
422 westbound between sanatoga and armand hammer. that could bring delays starting at 7 o'clock. in chester county the closure of route 29 state road for the next couple of weeks until august 3rd all traffic is going to be detoured. you can stick with charles town or white horse roads as some alternates and of course 252 still closed because of the work there until the end of the month. mount laurel police want me to let you know you should avoid hooton road. tam. >> developing overnight police say shots have been fired at two new york city police officers narrowly missing them. this happened in brooklyn. the officers were not hit. officials say four men drove past the officers in a car and shot at them as the officers were walking. the suspects then fled the scene and dumped the car. authorities are still looking for the gunman and it's unclear if the officers returned fire. >> the death of a kansas police captain marks the
fourth officer killed in the line of duty in the u.s. since sunday. officials in kansas city kansas say officer robert melton was investigating an earlier report of shots fired. the 46-year-old pulled up to a person matching the suspect's description who then opened fire before melton could even get out of his patrol car. melton was rushed to the hospital but doctors could not save him. police believe they have the cop kill intercustody. >> famed actor producer and director gary marshall has died. he's known for creating 1970's hit sitcoms like happy days and laverne and shirley and directing pretty woman. marshall died yesterday from complications from pneumonia. he is survived by his wife barbara along with his sister actress and director pacific northwest knee marshall. marshall was 81 years old. >> 6:18 and lighten the mood. an officer in the midwest breaks down walls by busting a move. >> weather now from coast to coast extreme conditions overnight in the nation's capitol. >> check out the scene in washington, d.c. whipping winds and rain and

have worried if the steps they're taking increase their risk for cancer. new info says they can rest assured. the comprehensive study which was just published found there was no increased cancer risk. ivf requires temporarily increasing levels of certain sex hormones to five to 10 times the normal rate. technically two of those hormones estrogen and progesterone can affect the course of certain kinds of breast cancer but the study suggests it's not a pertinent concern in a limited time frame that usually surround ivf. the study also shows no greater risk among women who underwent various types of less intensive treatments in order to increase their fertility as well. >> 6:24 and we're following several new and developing stories for you coming up at 6:30. >> including a live report from cleveland where donald trump's former foes will come out to support him on stage tonight. >> ♪ >> donald trump sealed the deal and became the republican party's presidential nominee. i'm abc's stephanie ramos in cleveland.
>> ♪ >> new on "action news," a fast moving fire erupted at a chester county home overnight. the flames started just before 1:00 this morning on the 2300 block of yellow springs road in tredyffrin township. at one point the fire was shooting through the roof. no one currently lives in the home. fire crews are still working to figure out what sparked the blaze. >> in south jersey a diabolical case of animal abuse. vandals tossed bird cage with
the birds still inside into a burning fire pit. a scorched path of earth marks the site where this happened at the saint michael farm preserve. five small purple martins these are birds flown for their beautiful acrobatic swooping dives survived that fire and they're being cared for there at the mercer county wildlife center. the wildlife center is asking for donations to help them care for the birds. they're gorgeous in flight. i don't know why somebody would do this. >> leads to more violence against humans. 6:28 and meteorologist karen rogers says exercise today if you can. record heat is right around the corner. >> a man is found driving around philadelphia with dynamite in plane sight and kids in his back seat. we're live as police try t

call vote was over it became official, donald trump the outsider candidate is now the legit republican presidential nominee. >> it is my honor to be able to throw donald trump over the top. >> reporter: trump's four children appearing with the new york delegation during the roll call vote that formally awarded him the nomination. >> congratulations, dad, we love you. >> reporter: trump's nomination came as his campaign looked to reground a turbulent first day of floor shouting match and accusations that melania trump plagiarized first lady michelle obama's 2008 convention speech. >> please excuse me if i'm a little nervous. >> reporter: in her first address at any political event this campaign cycle tiffany trump hesitated with marla maples took the stage. >> donald trump has never done anything halfway least of all as a parent. >> reporter: and donald trump jr. making the case for his father and attacking hillary clinton's involving in benghazi. >> it was a tragedy.

>> ♪ >> developing overnight police with guns drawn converged on a camden gas station. the action cam was at the gulf express when it went down at 2:00 a.m. officers held people for questioning as k-9 units searched the store. camden county police will not say if anyone is until custody. they towed a minivan from the scene at cane and mount ephraim avenues. it has new york plates. we'll let you know when police return our calls for an update. >> routine traffic stopped turned explosive when philadelphia police found homemade dynamite in a car that also had kids inside. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live for us now outside of police headquarters with the full story. i can't even wrap my mind around this annie. >> reporter: yeah, and tamala, when police initially walked up to the vehicle they smelled marijuana. when they looked inside they saw the driver, two toddlers and what appeared to be homemade explosives. well, take a look at this video. this is video from the scene. we're told that the incident began around 10:00 p.m.
tuesday at 20th and champlost in the germantown section of the city. now, police say the minivan was double-parked so they started to walk over. when they walked up, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. inside of the van police found 31-year-old driver and tw two three-year-olds a boy and a girl in the back seat. officers called in the bomb squad. they determined that the explosives were homemade, none of them detonated. >> they did determine that there was some improvised explosive devices in the vehicle. they found two what appears to be about two quarter sticks of dynamite. they believe these are homemade. they had no manufacturing markings on them. so, they believe these were improvised devices. >> reporter: the 31-year-old is facing explosives and also narcotics charges and also reckless endangerment of children as well. for now reporting live from philadelphia police, annie
mccormick channel6 "action news." back to you. >> thank you annie. this fire ball is made up of 1,000 bales of hay in chester county. fire broke out at modern mushroom farms in new garden township at 1:30 this morning. fire crews from lancaster county and the state of delaware joined the fight to bring the flames under control. the hay was stacked up next to a barn. there are no reports of injuries. >> all right. let's turn to karen rogers. i'm going to enjoy today, take the kids to the park because it won't last long. >> enjoy it go outside because we're expecting a heat wave that's going to last a little while here. let's take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan. you can see a couple little showers off the coast in atlantic city and the delaware bay. we had some storms overnight and early morning tear through. so, dry for the most part right now. let's go on outside right now and see what it looks like. some beautiful shots of sky6 looking live in the center city skyline and looking pretty good. we have sunshine there even though we had some storms in south jersey and delaware earlier today. 71 degrees the current temperaturely the dewpoint way down there. it's nice and comfortable, 55.

farm road at meng road. construction beginning in just 15 minutes on the westbound side of 422 near sanatoga. that last throughout the midday. midday work in trenton closing clinton avenue starting at nine. ooh 30. that's each day this week. chambers street gets you around that. matt. >> thank you, matt. new this morning, a gunman ambushed a young man sitting on his back deck leaving him fighting for his life. it happened on the 1500 block of west clue avenue in ogontz. friends with the victim says the shooter stood on the step stuck the gun in between those railings and shot the victim in the face. police believe the violence was part of an ongoing dispute. they described the gunman's getaway car as a 2008 to 2010 black ford taurus. >> tolls are going up on the pennsylvania turnpike for both cash and e-z pass customers. the 6 percent hike goes into effect on january 8th. the turnpike commission says it's needed to fund a 10 year spending plan that raise the revenue for reconstruction and widening of the toll road. and this will not be the last
