"action news" at 12:30 continues. with rick williams, sara bloomquist and meteorologist, david murphy. we begin at 12:30 with the latest on the breaking news we have been covering for you since the top of this hour. there is an amber alert in effect right now for the entire viewing area. authorities are looking for a 3-year-old girl named ava burn, she is right there on the right. last seen on vine street in luzerne county wearing only a diaper. again, take a close look at her picture there. she was reportedly abducted by 24-year-old robert burn, he is there on the left. we are working to confirm the relationship between the two. but he is 24 years old and 5'9" and weighs 215 pounds and robert burn is driving a 2004 hyundai, hkb 4681 pennsylvania tags.
anybody with information is asked to immediately call 911. now to the latest on the 8-year-old girl that was shot in crossfire in camden, she remains in the hospital in critical condition and police are hoping a reward will lead them to the gunman. jeanette reyes working the story for us, live in the neighborhood where this happened. and jeanette, you spoke with the girl's parents? >> reporter: yes, i did. they came here briefly to their home to pick up things before they were rushed to the hospital. the mother was very distraught over her daughter and the father was more composed and said she is gabriel carter. her parents stopped by and there was a growing memorial for their daughter, many from her peers
praying for her recovery. police say that she was caught in crossfire and shot in the head while sitting on the steps. the mother quickly ran to her side and cradled her head and she was transported to cooper hospital where she remains in critical condition and an intense manhunt is underway for the person responsible. >> reporter: and this picture you are looking at right now on the screen, this is gabrielle carter and parents. and we just got that picture. police started out this investigation, an intention investigation for the plea for the public's help. we are told that the community is responding and they say it's because this child is really angered people that this child is hurt. and they tell me they have very good leads, part of the reason they have not released surveillance video that shows part of this shooting at this
point they say it's not necessary but offering $6,000 cash reward for anyone that has information that may lead to an arrest and conviction. jeanette reyes, channel 6 "action news." >> lets hope for a break in this case. newcastle police have ra rested a woman in connection with a shooting death with a delaware state university student. cheryl jennings is charged with murdering, 19-year-old malcolm evans, shot near the entrance of the rutledge community in bear. he was on his way to work at fedex when jennings fired a bullet into his car. investigators have not released a motive and evans and jennings apparently did not know each other. >> the last six weeks my family and friends, have spent so many sleepless nights, wondering who and why someone would commit
such an unspeakable crime. against such an amazing young man. >> police say that tips from the community helped lead to jennings arrest. police say they do suspect foul play, officials were called around 8:00 a.m. to the parking lot of a business on the 500 block of south market street. the man is between 40 and 50 years old and may have tried to climb or jump the fence, the man's identity has not been released . a would be robber with a knife was no match for a cane carrying shop owner. he entered home of the steak on wednesday and she ordered a drink and refused to pay and police say bruhner demanded money from an owner while wielding a steak knife and the
opener crabbed a cane and bruhner fled and is now facing a list of charges including robbery. in florida people are stocking up on supplies getting ready for a possible hit from tropical storm gaston. they were buying up food and water from this store in miami. it could hit florida. back here new jersey governor, chris christie, is heading to toms river to talk about new hurricane funding, is he expected to announce a funding match from a fema program and we'll have the details for you coming up this afternoon on "action news." and now to our forecast, and the weekend is going to be a hot one. we are getting back up into the 90s and it will feel like triple digits. meteorologist, melissa magee at the "action news" big board and the details from accuweather. we could be looking at another
heat wave. 90s are in the forecast today and they will keep on rolling as we get into the weekend can right now in philadelphia. 90 degrees. and 90 in wilmington and same in dover, at the coast in cape may 85 degrees and 86 for lancaster and reading. we are tapping into a northwesterly wind helping to dry out the atmosphere after early morning showers we had across the region. current heat index if philadelphia 93 degrees, feeling hotter than that as the afternoon rolls on feeling like 103 in dover. current number in allentown 89 degrees and 97 at the coast and not much relief at the coast today. we are tapping into a land breeze and not the comfortable on shore flow. temperatures there will be feeling like they are also in the 90s today. so the current heat din values as we through the rest of the. feeling like 98 and 94 at 4:00

an explosion at a police check point in southeast turkey killed 11 police officers today and nearly 80 others were
